Had this all ready to go yesterday but forgot to hit "Post"
wow, what an exciting win... we again beat a tough hawks team, but tonights game was a complete team victory... You could see it is clear that the knicks coaching staff has gotten the word out to look for gallo.. Lee is making an effort as are the guards to get him the ball.. gallo was money tonight, Al came up big late, as did chandler.. David lee looked like lee of old...
Knicks get out rebounded.. (suprise suprise.. LOL) 43-38, not that bad, but we shoot 50% from the field and 67% from three.. that was HUGE... Josh smith and the hawks were all over the boards but we survived the onslaught down low.... One thing to notice, it isn't always about shot blocking but protecting the paint.. hawks have a great shot blocker in Josh, but the knicks were living in the paint at one point it seemed... again, it is about protecting the paint, good clean, hard fouls..
good win.
chandler: Biggest block of the year.. forget that he just had 5 points.. chandler had 7 boards, he defended well, had to go up against a bigger and more physical front line, and he battled out there, not letting his 2-8 shooting night effect his defense.. he even was good on help defense.. finished with two blocks, but a lot of contested shots.. gallo got beat on a play and chandler came over and blocked the shot.. you could see gallo pat chandler as to say.. thanks for having my back... It is not always about points, but impact.. that block had impact.. it saved the game.. and he blocked the shot of one of the best leapers in the game.. cleanly, to save the game.. big time play by chandler.. BIG TIME !!!!!!!!
Lee: played like the lee of old.. was really hitting the boards, had 13 boards, finished with 19/13/5.. no not five dimes, but 5 fouls. lee gave 5 good, fouls.. challenged some shots, and was visible somehwat down low... he had two fouls to protect the hoop in which the result were 4 missed FT's... the effort is what we wanted to see..Lee also didn't force the ball when he got it, looked around for teamates and actually let some plays develop. he drew the double team in the post and even kicked it out to open teamates.. I mean just solid play from lee... good game lee... outmanned, but not out played... and that is all we can ask for.....
Al: took some silly shots tonight, but I will give him credit.. hit a big shot to hike the lead to three under two minutes.. a big shot.. and the thing about Al is you know he can play with some sense, you know he can make some good passes if he wants, but why doesn't he play that way all the time.... well tonight, he played a solid game... shot 5-10 for 14 points and 4 boards(could have done better there) and 1 dime, but it seemed like he had more... a big shot maker off the bench tonight..
Walker: Had a tough time with Josh smith because we know josh smith is not that good in the post.. actually josh smith pretty much shot the hawks out of the game late with some rushed shots on offense.. but back to walker finished with 8/4/2.. decent game, not great, but played hard, had a tough assignment with josh and as Dantoni said.. he is still getting his game legs back, and when he does, we can expect good things from him..
Gallo: started off hot and kept cooking.. one of his best games if not the best of the season.. he had better statistical games, but I don't know if any were played any better... He really stepped up to guard joe johnson and although joe made some tough shots over him, he forced joe into some tough ones later that he missed.. really got in joe's face... offensively, he hit every shot out there.. threes, drives, one for a dunk, got fouled, hit fadeaways, off the dribble and in the post.. he also didn't come out trying to take every shot in the second half, although he could have justified it.. just an unselfish player.. Hit chandler with a nice pass for three when he could have taken a shot over crawford... good team player... I also like how he turns around faces the smaller player and just shoots over him.. finished with 27/5/2... had a rookie like turnover late, but didn't hurt the knicks.. these are great learning experiences for gallo and so far I like what I see... a complete game from the kid.. the hawks announcers especially Dominique were praising gallo.. nique was like, " he can put the ball on the floor, but when he learns how to do so with control, he is going to be that more dangerous".. they really like this kid, the fact that he is just 21, has size and upside.. good game for gallo.. we needed it... he was awarded stingers player of the game.. (award hawks announer gives out.. former knick.. mike glenn, the stinger.. LOL)
House: 6 points and 4 dimes.. he makes me nervous handling the ball, but is a better passer than I thought, had some nice dimes out there...
Dougie Fresh: good to see him out there, plays a gritty game.. made that mistake going too early late in the game, but he will learn, this is how young players take their lumps and learn from this.. it is the only way.. douglas finshed with 11/3 dimes and good defense... I like his speed. seems to have a nice burst, he moves without the ball, and he hits the boards.. good game toney..
sergio: can really push the heck out of the ball, but turns it over too much.. had 6 turnovers in 22 minutes.. just a bit too careless out there.. finished with 9/4/3/6 turnovers... if he can protect the ball better, he could really be more of a factor...
overall good team win.. knicks had 20 assist to the hawks 15.. there were times when 3-4 guys touched the ball before a shot... again, good team ball. no ball hogging or one man shows...
a nice win to savor in such a crappy season...
