Pat the Rat ( again)
"The idea that Miami Heat president Pat Riley would float the possibility of returning as the team's coach isn't sitting well with the man who used to work for him.
Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said Tuesday that he wished Riley would have kept the comments private because of the impact it might have on Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
Spoelstra was an assistant under Van Gundy in Miami, and the two remain friends.
"I feel bad for Erik," Van Gundy said. "I know what will happen now. That's an offseason of speculation on whether or not Pat's going to coach. I think that makes it tough on [Spoelstra], so I feel bad for him."
Van Gundy should know.

I'm not terribly sold on Orlando.
Count me on the other end. There are three teams that can win this thing - LA, Cleveland and Orlando - and Orlando plays the best D of them all. I agree that the lack of a reliable closer on offense is problematic, but the team's depth, defense, experience and coaching are all outstanding. Is there a better defensive team in the league than the Magic?

I suppose you've forgotten that Kam predicted a Celt v. Spur Finals. So that makes 5 contenders.
I feel fairly certain that Orlando couldn't make it through both Cleveland and Boston. Unfortunately for my thesis, they don't have to. Then again, it's unclear if Boston can make it through two tough series.
I'm taking the Boston-Cavs winner to knock off Orlando. Which would mean a Boston-LA finals. I think the Suns can beat the Spurs but not LA, while the Spurs could beat LA if they survive Phoenix Hard to picture the creaky Celts winning three tough series ...
Suns-Spurs & Celts-Cavs are real nice matchups.

BoD, I think perhaps you underestimate the resolve of the Orlando Magic, and overestimate the talent of the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks have a lot of talent, but are very streaky, and surely there times against the Bucks where they phoned it in, and last night against the Magic, they turned in a no-heart stinker on par with some of the Knicks worst lay-downs.
They just don't seem to have very good coherence. It's hard to put your finger on it.
I mean, I wish there was some way we could shoplift Al Horford; Josh Smith is quite the rebounder and shot blocker; Joe Johnson oft times seems like he might indeed be worth big time money. And I've always liked Jamal.
But their chemistry seems easily undone; sometimes Smith's enormous talent is undone by a surfeit of bravado and a lack of hoops smarts; and the notion of enduring the past two years of Knick suffering to give 15-20 million per to Joe Johnson seems somehow obscene--not that he isn't supremely talented and an upgrade over our current SG (no putdown on Wilson Chandler intended), I think he would wilt under the big lights of Broadway, unless it was a second banana to someone with big-time titties, like Wade or LeBron.
Orlando has a nice mix of pieces, a strong defensive presence, a lot of snipers and good depth.
Howard and Gortat give them a powerful inside presence; Rashard Lewis while not the second coming is commensurate with Lee-Gallo; Vince Carter is streaky, but capable of being the alpha dog for stretches; a healthy Jameer Nelson is far more effective than a creaky Bibby. Pietrus, Bass, Reddick, White Chocolate (who for reasons never clear to me, didn't measure up to Twiddle D'Antoni's high standards for PGs) don't miss much of a beat.
Orlando in five. And a tough match-up for whomever survives the Cavs-Celtic steel cage match.

I thought I kind of trashed the Hawks. I just assume they'll be competitive in Atlanta and take one game. I'm not sold on Orlando as championship material, but they are roughly on par with Cavs and Celts, and a step ahead of Atlanta. Any series with two of the top 3 Easterners will be exciting. Imo, the favorable matchup gives Orlando almost an equal chance.

Okalhoma City has a starting Five of
Kristic-Green-Durant-Sefalosha-Westbrook
Coming off the bench are
Ibaka-Collison-Harden-Maynor
They have the #21-26-32 picks in the draft.
And their total salary commitment comes in at around 40 million.
If LeBron wants to win championships, this is the team our FA Deity should pursue.
NBA Draft has Utah taking Kansas Center Cole Aldrich at #9 with our lottery pick. Stephon and Isiah--a gift that keeps giving.

Lebron is getting a third MRI on his elbow. you don't get an MRI if you don';t have a problem. I know since I've gone down that road to surgery. hopefully that won't happen to him.
What is happened is that the Cavs went from co-favs with The Lakers to win the ring to absolutely no chance to win anything unless Lebron can get healthy now and become the King again.
From what i am seeing that is going to take a miracle. They will need to get by Boston/Orlando and the Lakers.
is there anyone out there who thinks they can if he's not whole?
i doubt it.

Wade being sued by his estragned wife
The estranged wife of Dwyane Wade has filed suit against his actress girlfriend Gabrielle Union, saying their relationship has caused the star Miami Heat guard's two sons emotional distress.
"A perennial All-Star and former NBA scoring champion, Dwyane Wade has a number of other lawsuits pending stemming from failed business deals. He will opt out of the final year of his contract with the Heat and become a free agent July 1, at which time he'll receive a six-year offer from Miami that could be worth about $127 million -- far more than any other NBA club could pay him.
The custody battle and divorce case, he said last week, could "overshadow" his free-agent maneuvering.
"It's going to be a very busy summer, challenging summer and important summer for my life off the court and on the court," Wade said last week. "I have big decisions ahead of me. It's not easy."
not easy?
sign the deal, pay off the woman and have fun with Ms. Union.
that's hard?

Berger CBS Sports "It's all hypothetical at this point, but just think about the impact of the following high-stakes game of musical chairs: LeBron joins Rose and Calipari in Chicago, Amar'e Stoudemire or Carlos Boozer joins Wade and Riley in Miami, and Chris Bosh or Joe Johnson lands in New York -- to be paired in the summer of '11 with Carmelo Anthony. Oh, plus Kobe and Phil are still lurking in L.A., the Celtics aren't dead yet, and Van Gundy is pacing the sideline in Orlando muttering to himself with a Riley voodoo doll in his blazer pocket. The way the Magic are playing, Van Gundy might just be fresh off capturing the NBA title that Riley stole from him in Miami.
