i don't see the hate for Carmelo.

You've got Chip and Lester on ignore?

i see a preference for acquiring him as a free agent

Why do you keep beating this dead horse?  Haven't we hammered home the point that Melo wasn't going to come as a free agent.  Why do you persist?

Is that fact or opinion?

If your job was shutting down next year with ideas of cutting salaries by 25% at the top level don't you think you'd try to get a new contract before that happened?

Nobody is thinking with their heads around here.  Only with their orange and blue hearts.

Also keep in mind how few NBA Superstars get to free agency.  Denver wasn't going to let him walk for nothing after seeing what Cleveland and Toronto went through.

Its fucking obvious.

All of what you say is true except the conclusion. Melo "forced his way out" of Denver only because Denver had a willing partner in the deal.

Yeah, the NETS.

Thought Melo said he wouldn't sign an extension with the Nets if traded...

When did he say that?

http://offthedribble.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/19/anthony-draws-the-line-with-nets/

That was right before the deadline, but  months  of Prokorov and the NETS being in the bidding had raised the Knicks offer to Chandler+Gallo.  The final piece was Mozgov.

I'm happy for Lin for his career night performance and all the loves he received from the fans. However, it is also important to remember that both teams played games the night before where most starters from both teams logged in heavy minutes. D. Williams, for examples logged in 38min last night where Lin was hardly used.

What I am trying to say is that tonight might have been a perfect storm (in a good sense) for Lin. Lin has never been known for his speed, but tonight he was able to penetrate with enough ease to do some damage partly because of tired opponents. As much as I would like to go along with the enthusiasm for Jeremy Lin here, it is better for us, and for Lin that we curb on our enthusiasm on this young man just for now.

Tell ya what......

you hear so much of the spoiled overpaid athlete....you can forget that these are MEN that play this game

The collective visage of these Knickerbockers tonight.....the pure joy........no scowl.......no "where's mine?" in any of them.........the respect with which they treated one Jeremy Lin.......a newbie............a nobody in October.....................

these MEN tonight remind us that with their sweat, with their spending of time together in search of..........a ring?.........well........in search recently of just a buoy to keep them afloat.............

with all of this...............they MAINTAIN dignity, maintain what makes them FAMILY to each other...........and tonight they show, with their outpouring of natural boisterous mirth to this young Harvard grad............this kid from Eco 101.............they show what it is that makes each tick, makes each persevere...........

show the sheer LOVE for their craft.......and really...for this town...

I'm all in with this team, Mike and all, James Dolan and all.........whether or not J-Lin (good for the chick with the sign - bless her positivity) continues any semblance of what we saw this night

Yes.  All in indeed.

Great post, Kiid.  I don't think I've ever experienced you in such an effusive mode.

But I agree 1000%, even if it were only for one night, the manner in which the Knicks surrounded the Harvard kid at the end of the game, and just took such SELFLESS joy in his success, was really moving to me...and it is worth noting that NO ONE was more happy for the kid than Mike Bibby AND Toney Douglas, who between them may have lost not only playing time but a roster spot, if we pick up another player and need to cut a body.

Even better, after the game when the announcer pointed out how Lin had held Deron Williams scoreless for a stretch, he talked T-E-A-M, how he hadn't done anything on his own, but how they committed to good team defense.

Jeremy Lin is going to go up and down like a yo-yo, and will have his struggles, but tonight he showed some real fortitude, and played the right way, just good, solid, fundamental hoops, and on a night when our big guns were struggling...and it is worth mentioning that I was very moved, in a manner Kiid did a great job of articulating, in particular by Carmelo's response, showing his appreciation in no uncertain terms and letting the kid know he belongs.

Again, it ain't going to be a walk in the park for Lin, because teams are not going to be surprised by him, and it will be a good test to see how he responds to stiffer challenges and adversity, but for one night, I do not give a fuck, because of the boyish enthusiasm with which he played a playground game, the response he thus elicited from his team and the Garden faithful, desperate for something to cheer about, and for one night, witnessing a coming out party, a truly magical, heroic performance.

I am genuinely happy for this kid.

PS: Maybe the effect will rub off on MDA and he will look twice when he surveys his bench, and wonders aloud, "Gee, maybe lightning will strike thrice in one season, could I be so fucking lucky?  Josh Harrelson, Jeremy Lin...wonder what Jerome Jordan is packingunder the hood?"

PPS: Take your time getting back Baron.

PPPS: Starting to get giddy...somebody slap me.  Wouldn't it be something if we went from no PGs to two?  Would but that one could believe...

GO KNICKS!

Papabear says

My oh my that china man Jeremy Liu is a top level player!  Did anyone see him take over the game?  He may look like a little fagetass punk but he can play and he proved that tonight!  Anyways what i came hear to say is this.  I have heard from a really reliable source that the Chicago Bulls will be achoiring none other than my main nigga mr Dawight Howard but not until the all star break is over because the all star game be in Orlando this time.  When this happens our dreams of a East conferance championship  will be shatered.  I still say we need to do what they did on the most excellent Woopi Goldberg movie Eddie and just hire a random fan.  I said this before some other poster stole that idea from me!  Or maybe just grate minds think alike!  But our Knicks can not hire someone like antishaman because he would be doing the same shit thats got us in this mess.  Get somebody who preeches defense and fundamentals.  What ever happened to that little hobbit lookin mothafucka Jeff Van Grundy? Well its that time again.  Time for papabear to SNMOKE THE FUCK OUT MY NIGGAS!  pEACE!

Completely forgot we had a B2B2B.
I think I missed the replays all ready.

Great for Lin.
But 20 shots for the kid isn't going to be a formula for wins.
Hate to say it, but we could have had Ish Smith and had a quick PG zooming into the paint for the past few weeks.  If Baron proves he can play , then Bibby is done.  5th PG.

Helluva game vs. Boston.
Pierce just such a competitor.
With his slow old man's game and push shot 3's.
Looks like the star of the Y.
But man does he toast us.
PP has been playing heroically since his return from injury.

Most amazing was how Lin split double teams several times near the end, after NJ got wise he was killing them. Just squirmed and powered through. Looked like Iverson, even without the blinding speed. 2nd was his ability to position himself to cut of D Will's drives.

If he's really 6-3, 200 lbs, that puts him in good company for defense and offense and durability.

Knicks down 10 after 1Q.
Lin sparked the beginning of the comeback, and then Jeffries was key -- crashing the boards, taking a charge, blocking a shot, a tip-ip and foul.
Of course it was just the Nets, a team made up mostly of guys named Williams.

Nice to see Lin pushing the ball.
Knicks must have the fewest fast break points in the L.

Yep. But at that point in the negotiations Denver had a choice to make a deal or let him go for nuthin'. Melo wanted the trade but with Nets out who was Dolan bidding against?

Whatever, what's done is done.

Lakers are coming to the end of an era.

http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=320204026

they have 3 players and that won't get it done if they want a ring.  a deal has to happen and changes must be made.

they are now the #2 team in L.A.  in their own arena.

Buss family not happy.

Lin had the game of his life.

let's get a grip here.

 Shocked

The Suns would accommodate Steve Nash with a trade, but the former MVP has yet to express an interest in a move.

"It's really on him in terms of what he wants to do or not do," a person with knowledge of the situation said.

Nash, 37, is averaging 14.5 points and 9.9 assists.

The Suns are 9-14 and 12th in the Western Conference.

we have nothing to trade.

we do have 2.5 million waiting for JR.

The Knicks plan to be aggressive in landing J.R. Smith, coach Mike D’Antoni indicated.

The Knicks’ interest in Smith appears to be mutual, as Smith tweeted on Friday: “New York City is where it’s at!’’
