I like the Clooney divorce lawyer one better than either, though, also from another script.  "Hudsucker" has the advantage of being a Coen original, so it's superior in a auteurist way, but not funnier than the lawyer one or LK from what I remember.  I think if I were on a desert island I'd probably keep "Hudsucker," also a screwball comedy like the lawyer one, but too broad, or something, Tim Robbins is no Nic Cage or George Clooney, comedy-wise.  I think it taught them that it's funnier to aim at the blackest of black humor, I mean, since really the singular "Raising," they aren't good at "comedies," other than the lawyer screwball comedy, and I suppose it's hard to characterize "O Brother" as much other than a comedy, but they went to make a "building movie," as a friend used to refer to movies that take place in buildings, and it didn't really work for me.

I can watch Hudsucker, and I can't watch The Ladykillers; and I don't find Robbins all that offensive, so I rank THP above TLK.   Just my two cents.  I never thought of Irreconcilable Differences as a Coen flick, so never watched. Will have to catch it some day, when I'm done with the M. Night experiment.

We're deep in subjective territory, my friend.   But, good, you see at least the "auteurist" advantage there, in terms of overall storytelling and mood and such, even if it didn't ring your funny bone so much.

I will try to find the DVDs and review some of these, as well as the ones currently under chat over at 3Eye.

I know of no Coen film called Irreconcilable Differences, Harrie.   Do you mean Intolerable Cruelty?

Whoah, yeah!  Big difference there, huh?  Yes to Intolerable Cruelty, thank you.

It's really funny and feels very much like a Coen film, Clooney is great in it.

Well, both are quasi-legal terms and cause for divorce, and they both start with "I."

Now might be the time to confess that I also confuse the titles LA Confidential and The Usual Suspects.  Have seen both movies, know the plots and characters of both movies, but call each one by the wrong name all the time.  Just one of those things.

So, do you confuse the names Keizer Sozay and Rollo Tomassi, too?

Uhhhh, no.  But the hubby mixes up Helen Hunt, Bonnie Hunt and Holly Hunter all the time.

Mixing up Helen Hunt and Holly Hunter -- that's funny.

I wasn't even thinking about how LAC and TUS (and the two mythical names) are connected by Kevin Spacey.

Oddly enough, I have to go through a huge mental process to put the titles of about three  Shakespeare comedies - As You Like It, All's Well That Ends Well, and Much Ado About Nothing - with their plots, all of which I know extremely well.  And I have the same problem with February and November.

Somewhat relatedly, there is a place down in Tennessee or something called either "Pigeon Forge" or "Pigeon Gorge" that my family (sans me) went to on vacation once.  My father deliberately screwed up the name so often that he is now the only member of the family who knows which it is.

Ha!

Unclear name order bedevils me, sometimes...

Robert Sean Leonard (the man with three first names!)

Pruitt Taylor Vince (the man with the backwards Southern name!)

Sean Michael Scott (another man with three first names...and I'm still not 100% on the order)
