I think that it is done merely because the dates are set in the contract and you lose something either way. Ticket holders will rumpus if you cancel a performance set in concrete; and they will also throw things when it is Billy Idol instead of Stevie Taylor.

Nah, I think they'd throw stuff at Stevie Taylor, too. I mean, he's no Steven Tyler. (nee Talarico, no need to Wiki)
That being said, I like Billy Idol a lot; but it's like the Roth-Hagar debate all over again. Roth and Hagar are both gone, and VH fans still constantly debate who was better (all they can agree on is that the More Than Words guy* [Benno something?] sucked) and boycott the one they don't like. I don't even care much for VH, and I come down on the side of Roth, absolutely hate Hagar.
Aerosmith fans are used to the band taking breaks and breaking up, so I think they'd wait. But I'm thinking of the hardcore, been-there-from-the-beginning fans, Aerosmith being a semi-local (or regional, I guess) band for this area. However -- I have a feeling the European and South African fans are probably a little less rabid about authenticity and might just want their tickets honored, even if they got some random guy named Stevie Taylor for the singer. Plus, Joe Perry, for one, has at least one expensive, legal habit: Friesian horses. So I have to guess this is about the money as much as it is about maybe being psyched to tour; not knowing when, if, or how Tyler is going to come out of this rehab stint; possibly resentment towards Tyler for putting them in this position to start with....well, I'll stop there.
Personally I'd rather see the real Aerosmith or no Aerosmith, but that's just me.

Marianne Faithfull then,

and now,

I kind of like the later version better.

Bit of news yesterday that I had not heard before, re: Marianne Faithfull
I was checking to find if one of those yesterdays writers was making an accurate reference or an inadvertent slip as i just did with Tyler/Taylor(for similar reasons, when his main point ought to have been obits for J.D.Salinger. Instead of getting his t-words crossed, he had names with M's to not hurry through as he did.
Anyone who looks for the quick cross-reference into Leopold Ritter von Sacher- Masoch learns quite suddenly that he was the great-great uncle of Marianne Faithful.
Anyway, I had to presume that I thought I was writing Tyler, father of Liv Tyler. Why else?

Somehow, maddy, I don't picture you listening to Aerosmith, whether it is Steve Tyler or Steve Taylor.

She's good in almost any role. One of my favorite offbeat films was "Trouble In Mind," not least of all for her haunting vocals on the "The Hawk," http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqVjnDh8hCg&feature=related But, don't forget that "h."

That is a shame. I had a period where I couldn't get enough of her full bodied voice.

The goal of science should be to figure out how to help us age like Winston Churchill. He lives a stressful life, drinks like a fish, smokes like a foundry, eats English cooking, breathes London smog, and then somehow lives to age 94 and goes out with his faculties pretty much intact.

You listen to a lot of things, that your kids like. I certainly put my mother through it; but unfortunately, I was in my Slim Galliard phase.
