Channing, Labelle & More Perform At Kennedy Center Gala 5/3
20 March 2009 12:27 PM, PDT | From BroadwayWorld.com | See recent BroadwayWorld.com news

A cast of leading woman in the arts including Lisa Brescia, Stockard Channing, Jenn Colella, Suzanne Farrell, Judith Jamison, Patti Labelle, k.d. lang, Annie Leibovitz, Audra McDonald, Reba McEntire, Veronika Part, Amy Poehler, Dianne Reeves, LeAnn Rimes, Chita Rivera Kathleen Turner and members of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform at the Kennedy Center's 17th annual Kennedy Center Spring Gala, Sunday, May 3rd at 8:30pm in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.

I found this while looking for news on Turner's support for an Obama recommendation of a cabinet post for Don Johnston (or, Johnson; anyone familiar with this news?).

Meanwhile, a little later in the same month, The Toronto Globe and Mail informs us that a two hour "conversation" will be held in Toronto between former presidents G.W. Bush and William Jefferson Clinton.

Hard to say which of the above two events will be more theatrical.

This is Great!  and how very ironic that some other industrious theatre-goier was able to catch the moment on his cell phone!

Barton,

As I read these, I realized you ought to have become a theatrical reviewer. Frank Rich once was.  It's a specialized type of journalist who goes to the theatre free of charge.

If I had the time, I would, opening at Lantern Theatre Company, Philadelphia.

David Hare's play, The Breath of Life.  Sounded like British Playwright goes for writing something with the scenarios of Noel Coward; I vaguely remember the New York reviews.

Originally starred Judi Dench and Maggie Smith (took the playwright a year to write to capture the exact characteristics of the exact age of these women who are the only two major characters in the play.

The rights apparently just became available in USA 2009 season at The Gloucester Stage, in Massachusetts.

When it next becomes a movie, it will surely star Annette Bening as the wife and Julianne Moore as the mistress.
