I just looked in at one of the other splinter websites (from the old NYT forae) and learned that the "Pooh" in Winnie the Pooh comes from a pet swan of Christopher Milne.

I think, as Meanderers, we cannot let another website usurp our supremacy in the fields of digression and nonsequitur.

Coincidentally enough, I looked up my sister-in-law's baby registry last night, and found out their theme (#1, I didn't know one "themed" a baby registry) is "Classic Pooh."  Which strikes me as an unfortunate choice of title, but hey.

"as Meanderers, we cannot let another website usurp our supremacy in the fields of digression and nonsequitur."

Just looking over pages 318 and 319, I think you can say this group is still on top.

The geese in my pasture are apparently much hipper, afterall, we are part of the of the left coast, although being closer to Eskimo squalor than Bev Hills mansions does have its drawbacks. There hasn't been a celebrity divorce north of the arctic circle since Nanook of the North spent a hot igloo night with a female surveyor from  Admiral Byrd's team. We just can't get the tabloids to send reporters into the great wide open. Polarbearphobia, maybe. But I digress, our honkers post guards, north, south, east, west. They see so much as a flashlight and all two thousand are in the air at once, this time of year, north, maybe two, maybe twelve miles, they flee, fly, float. Not much prettier on the planet than a couple thousand gooses flashing cross the moon, singing that mourful song, talking to the coyotes. After liftoff, the frogs get courage, so much noise, the frogs make so damn much noise, we can't hear the owls.

Sarah Palin's new reality show about Alaska should tilt your left coast a bit to the right.
Somebody is spending 1 million per episode to expose us to Alaska from the palin point of view.

Where's the "other" website?

http://www.thirdeyefilm.com/phpBB2

A majority of the NYT film nuts landed there.  Whiskey, Harrie, Earl, and Knox can be seen at both locations.

Oh, that other website.  Eh.  Mostly about film - wasn't seeing much activity there last time I checked, which was years ago.

As I recall, "Classic Pooh" on the page and between paste-board looked pretty much like "baby-books" did in the Depression. Except that Christopher Robin was born a Leo/Virgo cusper in 1920.  His father was A.A. Milne, a name that came immediately to mind when you mentioned the baby registry.  The reason for a theme might be ( as I learned when finding presents for my great nephew who is a really intelligent fellow who has been radiating intelligence since he first opened his eyes, looking much older and wiser all along  his way of discovering how things are done here ), nowadays the makers of all the tablewear for instance, food bowl, cup, plate when you graduate, and the tools when mommy feeds you and then your own when you feed yourself, seem to come in patterns of favorite old stories for little people,"babies".

I used to memorize the rhymes when doing auditions as an ingenue; that was why A.A. Milne's name immediately clicked.  You have a certain leeway of passing for younger or older for several years; when ever they need a kid, you can be it.  Julie Harris, in: Member of the Wedding. was sort of my inspiration.  I felt so sorry for the character when she realized that she wasn't allowed to go along on the honeymoon of her favorite people. It was a first for her; first time she had been a member of a wedding-party.

Christopher, who was born in London, was there before I was aware of Christopher Isherwood, for instance. That came next.

But, when Christopher Robin went down to the end of town to tell his mother she must come home from shopping, he usually dragged Pooh-bear with him; by one arm.  I would have to suppose that since Teddy bears were brown, one concept led to the other within a certain limited experience.
