I could dump Chuck James and pick up Gaudin or Moyer. Thoughts?

My pitching staff has been hurt by lack of run support for Danny Haren. I lead my league in saves, even with Wickman on the DL, but I am short on Ks and Ws.

Mixed leagues suck.  Play in an NL-only or AL-only league.

Meet my team:

The fire sale continues...

traded Edgar Renteria ($25) and Ben Sheets ($38)
for
Felix Pie ($5), Jason Schmidt (DL) ($29) and Jonah Bayliss ($10)

and

traded Freddy Garcia ($19) and Mike Cameron ($17)
for
Andre Ethier ($10) and Anthony Lerew ($10)

So, the best I can possibly hope for this year is 6th place (13-team, NL-only league), but I should be in a position to crush in 2008.  We get to carry over 12, and I get to choose from the likes of:

Ramon Castro ($1)
Andy Laroche ($5)
Ryan Braun ($5)
Kelly Johnson ($8)
Troy Tulowitzki ($10)
Chris Duffy ($10) - iffy, I know
Andre Ethier ($10)
Felix Pie ($5)
Terrmel Sledge ($1)
Todd Linden ($1) - hoping some NL team will pick him up
Carlos Gomez ($5) - hoping the Mets give him a shot
Mike Pelfrey ($5) - hoping his ugly 2007 thus far is just a bump in the road
Taylor Tankersley ($6)
Chris Sampson ($1)
Carlos Villanueva ($3)

I should be able to find 12 good keepers there, but who knows?

Meet My Team...

Well, you guessed it - I'm in dead last (13-team, NL-only league).  But I think I've got a great chance to win in 2008... we get to keep 12, and come March 2008, I should be able to find 12 good ones out of this group. Asterisks indicate who I'm leaning toward keeping right now, but a lot can happen between now and March:

C - Ramon Castro ($1) *****
C - Jesus Flores ($1)
1B - Adam Laroche ($33)
3B - Ryan Braun ($5) *****
CI - Andy Laroche ($5) *****
2B - Kelly Johnson ($8) *****
SS - Troy Tulowitzki ($10) *****
MI - Mark Reynolds ($10) *****
OF - Andre Ethier ($10) *****
OF - Carlos Gomez ($5) *****
OF - Terrmel Sledge ($1) *****
OF - Michael Bourn ($11)
OF - Todd Linden ($1)
U - Morgan Ensberg ($26)
U - Aaron Miles ($1)
RES - Felix Pie ($5) *****
RES - Kory Casto ($10)
FARM - Colby Rasmus ($5)

P - Sean Marshall ($10)
P - Kyle Davies ($10)
P - Justin Germano ($10)
P - Chris Sampson ($1) *****
P - Jonah Bayliss ($10)
P - Taylor Tankersley ($6)
P - Bobby Howry ($7)

Meet my team...

Since last post, I've acquired Justin Upton and Jay Bruce, which brings me to NINE (9) players who were in the top-50 of Baseball Prospectus' 2007 Top-100 Prospects (AL and NL!!) list.

Meet My Team...

..snuck into 8th place (13-team league), so that was nice.  3rd pick in the Minor League Draft should work out well.   I'll consider this some effective rebuilding (we get to carry over 12):

Ryan Braun $5
Andy Laroche $5
Kelly Johnson $13
Troy Tulowitzki $15
Justin Upton $5
Felix Pie $5
Carlos Gomez $5
Michael Bourn $11
Andre Ethier $10
Manny Corpas $10

Those are my 10 I'm pretty sure of, or hoping for anyway.

Of the rest of my roster, there are some who could end up looking like very good keepers come March:

Ramon Castro - $1
Steven Pearce - $5
Yunel Escobar - $10
Ronny Cedeno - $2
Brian Fuentes - $5
Franklin Morales - $5
Mike Pelfrey - $5

And my farm consists of Jay Bruce, Phil Humber and Colby Rasmus, who could all conceivably be on Opening Day MLB rosters.

Well, it's the off-season, and that means off-season trades.  I've received an offer, which I like:

I get Cole Hamels ($10) for:  Felix Pie ($5), Carlos Gomez ($5) and Yunel Escobar ($10).

We only get to carry over 12 players, and I think I have enough (see previous post) to be able to do a 3-for-1 trade, so I'm thinking I should book it.  Am I wrong?

Still waiting on the Hamels deal, but in the meantime, I just booked this one:

I get Brandon Phillips ($15) for

Manny Corpas ($10), Steve Pearce ($5), Yunel Escobar ($10) and Franklin Morales ($5)

First, quit the mixed league you're in an join an AL-only or NL-only league.  Once you do that, you'll wonder why you ever played in a mixed league, in which every team is an all-star team.

If that's not an option, then I think both trades are do-able, assuming you're getting the guys above the "for" line.

I think Pedro will deliver a good 180 IP this year, and Ellsbury will deliver a $20-$25 year, and I think Salty is a $20-$25 player, just maybe not quite yet.  I don't know much about Kendrick or Suzuki, but Chipper is shot, Pelfrey is goofy (I took him with the #1 overall pick in the farm draft last year, ahead of Bruce, Upton, etc.... OUCH), and Brandon Jones might be in AAA on Opening Day.

I love SB, and Victorino is good for 30 of them, which makes him a $20 player in my book, even if he doesn't hit .280, which he will.   I don't know much about Pedroia - if you're in a 4X4 league then I guess his batting average makes him a good bargain at $6?  In any event, Maine is a good deal at $5, but Byrd is a non-factor.

Reyes is surely worth every bit of $41, but can you call any $41 player (not named A-Rod) a bargain?  I don't know.  I guess it depends on who is out there in the pool at the draft.  If Rollins, Hanley, Utley, Phillips, etc., are going to be out there on draft day, I'd use that $41 on one of them and have enough change left over to fill other needs on my team.

If you don't know Kendrick, you can't really judge the deal properly

And the league is mixed, but we only use 18 team's players (14 team league)

Cheers

(No - my current players are above the for - Kendrick is the key guy - Reyes obviously in the other one.  And BTW - Saltalamachia will never be a $25 player - and certainly not when he starts the year at AAA)

We're likely standing pat with

Johjima - 14
(Salty - if he makes club - 6)

Teixeira - 33
Pedroia - 11 (raise - 2 years)

Victorino - 13
Sizemore - 10
Ellsbury - 17
T Buck - 5

Papelbon - 19 (raise, 2 years)
Pedro - 5
B Myers - 17
Lester - 1
(Lindstrom - 5, check role)

13-156, 104 to spend on 11 players

Tossbacks - Lofton - 15, J D Drew - 23, Nomar - 18, Harden - 17, B J Ryan - 23
And. Brown - 5, R Franklin - 5, Glavine - 6, Sampson - 6, D Wells - 6

That's what they said about Russell Martin.

We're likely standing pat with...

Looks like a good set of keepers... I'm not so sure about $33 on Teixeira, it seems like that's right about "at value".  The others seem all seem like they're at firmly-under value prices.

Here are my keepers (13-team, NL only league, can only carry 12):

Ramon Castro ($1)
Ryan Braun ($5)
Andy Laroche ($5)
Kelly Johnson ($13)
Brandon Phillips ($15)
Troy Tulowitzki ($15)
Justin Upton ($5)
Michael Bourn ($11)
Felix Pie ($5)
Andre Ethier ($10)
Bob Howry ($7)
Brian Fuentes ($5)

I also have Jay Bruce ($5) and Colby Rasmus ($5), so if they win MLB jobs in Spring Training, then they would bump Castro and/or Ethier, assuming LA doesn't trade an OF, and/or Fuentes, assuming he doesn't get traded into a closing role.
