You are right.  There are quite a few steps that could be taken in this regard.

And, as I mentioned, if this was an actual concern of our President he would be taking those steps.

But it isn't.  Its excuse making for a President who is primarily concerned with himself.

The most tangible result of rolling big ass missile carriers and huge tanks down Pennsylvania Ave, NW will be maddening traffic as the street is reconstructed post parade.

For you, maybe

Think of your fellow citizens - YES, all of them.  Stray from your box once in a while.

Fuck that!

My “fellow citizens” bitch about all the problems in Washington while the biggest problem in Washington are the GOP voters who send assholes here to represent them.

I live here... so do over half a million “real people” y’all like to use as props.

If military depression is not being addressed, just say so - and maybe show some proof.

I'd think you are mistaken.

I have an understanding of the things I really don't have all the information on, and its a long list, really long, even longer than that, so I can't learn it all. But I try to stay informed within reason so that i can function in the real world that is complicated and draw reasonable conclusions and make informed decisions.

and despite my obvious informaton gaps, I think I can say with a large degree of certain, kid has no such insight, nor a need to inform himself.

I'd think you are mistaken.

I would doubt that the military is doing nothing to address it.  I also would doubt that anything NEW is being done to address it since Trump has taken office.

YOU made the argument that this is a concern of his.  Back it up with some facts.  I even suggested some facts you could cite, if they exist.  If you can't, move on, but I won't make your argument for you.

...and before anyone makes the comparison to Trump's model, Bastille Day in France is a national celebration of independence, with the tradition of a military parade going back 150 years.  So no, not the same thing.

I didn't say they were the same thing. What I pointed out was that he wants the fashion he saw in Paris (the bitch).

I bring it up because they constant reiteration of the meme that only tinhorn despots like military hardware porn parades leaves open a flank in the argument. The SAME THING with the dossier. When you take the shortcut it becomes the narrative. The narrative is slanted in the favor of the one with the most ink. As evidenced by the fact that the left is losing practically every rhetorical argument.

Further to the discussion of Depression.

Ironic given the French connection.

A reason that the French were routed in WWI was that the pre war generals were very concerned with the self esteem of the soldiers. Their reasoning was that self esteem  was the basis of bravery. Bravery was the most important factor in battle. So they focused their energy on new foppish uniforms.

Perhaps in a conventional war, the generals may have had a point. But WWI was not like any war up to then. Ballistics were the main decider.

Not having "Military displays" is somewhat based on the fact that the Revolution was "ordinary people" versus the uniformed "Red Coats." it would be irony for America to parade the military, given our belief in the individual and the citizen soldier versus the professional.

Doesn't help either that the concept was proved again in Viet Nam (where the citizen soldier took on the US Military) and Korea, and  Afghanistan.

For my money we do too much to glorify the service of servicemen. We are a nation of the citizen soldier. Do your part, then go home to the bosom.

In the '70s- '90s the popular lament was "We don't have any heroes anymore." Today everybody is a fucking "Hero!"  (except me, of course)

Not to forget that our military hasn't been called on to protect the actual "American Way" or "Our Rights" since WWII, before that, The Civil war. Before that The War of 1812.

Saying that today's soldiers are defending Americans is pure propaganda. The Military exists for the benefit of multinational corporations (the ones that we just gave a tax cut to!)

I didn't see you bring it up. I brought it up for exactly this reason.

I don't think this needs be dwelled on, its not a big deal.  In and of itself.  But when we have a "leader" who is already fully self-involved, obsessed with image, and displaying authoritarian tendencies (if not yet fully there) this becomes just another way of understanding just how out there he is.

And further reason to understand that this is about Trump...

He originally wanted to do this for his inauguration day.

Taking the sliver of an opening to note that I was watching Scaramucci on Real Time. He was tangling with David Frum and Mooch went back to the meme.

"Trump has identified this vast reservoir of people, disaffected by DC." Again as if we're supposed to respect the native wisdom of these people. These people are the people who keep voting against their self interest and then bitching about how their lot keeps getting worse. So I'll vote for a plutocrat!

You are free to think the answer is to be what these people want you to be. But you can't be and still be "on their side." The dumb fucks!

Found the Death Panels!

It turns out the GOP had them the whole time, but waited until now to produce them.

I wanted to point to this before it disappeared:

This is why Republicans love Trump, some already saying he is better than Reagan.

Any other Republican President would be afraid to do something so obviously cruel and far-right like this.  Mitt Romney would never sign off on this.  George W. Bush wouldn't sign off on this.

But Trump, simply, doesn't give a fuck.  He will attach himself to any policy so long as Republicans protect him in other ways.  And he believes, maybe correctly, that the 5th ave shooting rule applies to everything he does.  People who are going to hate are going to hate.  Those who love him will love him.  And as long as he keeps the media attention on something else, anyone in between (the few in between) won't notice that we have the most extreme far-right government advancing the interests of the wealthy to the detriment of everyone else in the history of this country.

And in 2020, if he gets there, Trump will run as a "populist" again.

Yep, I think the neo-cons in that Atlantic piece had it right, Republicans need to boycott the GOP in its present conscience-free form.

Pretty funny chat about Tienanmen-style parades as therapy for mental illness.  Kid is turning into the poster child for post hoc excuse making.

If the Left wins in 11/18 yugely, the best president we will be able to elect in 2020 will be DJT. A POTUS with no IQ for anything but praise will be very easy to corral and his presence will keep the jabronie segment of the population happy as we reconstruct the middle class. They will credit Trump with it, but what do we really care? What we want is a strong middle class. Our job is to protect the nation, not our egos.

Depression within the military - and after finishing serving - is a huge problem.  I am sure you know this - and realize there could be positive results from such a fine day, morale just being one to speak of.
It has nothing to do with the soldiers. It is not their ego and self image being stroked.
