Rumor is that Keira K. wanted to get out of all the corset movies she was doing, partly because of the oxygen deficiency.  Wonder what has happened to all those contemporary projects she was supposed to be involved in, some New York indie thing, another in London....haven't checked up on the duchess in a while.

The London thing was just doing your bit to meet and greet those who should keep you in mind when they are casting in case they forget she has done British parts before in the movies. In the Theatre, you meet many serious actors, like Kevin Spacey who more or less runs the Old Vic because he is like that; but, he has been known to make movies for people who absolutely have to have him in their production.

I'm sure, the New York thing, is merely on hold for the appropriate release date.  I can't recall who else was in it. It is one thing to be young -- for a part that is young in character, and another entirely whether it suits a young audience in  the summer time who want to be amused perpetually (and might think of F.Scott Fitzgerald as something old from their American Lit. class.)?

Yes.  More Domino and Bend It, please.

Heh.  She was the best thing about Domino...kind of went beyond the trippy junk the director kept sticking her in and gave us a real character.  Made me forget the parts that were like a really bad MTV video.

I loved the bottom line, about what each subject of the Queen contributes to the Royal household each year. That would be 92 cents.

Something tells me, that despite the great amount Her Highness spends annually, the individual contribution is less than the taxpaying citizen of the US sends to the White House; I suspect that is how the Tea-Bagging percentage of the American Public views the current Presidency: as somehow not right (as they never expected "to see that in their lifetime"?).

I recall when I first posted in this forum about the beloved Manhattan celebrity, Mrs. Astor, that umbrage was taken by a poster who didn't seem to grasp the fealty of New Yorkers for each other that overcomes wide gaps in background and income as well as vocational contribution to make Manhattan a city with its own tradition and quite a long history for a country inhabited for a shorter time from some perspectives than the view point of others whose ancestors arrived early.

As this was a particularly peevish criticism that happened to take place upon the immediate death of Mrs. Astor, a tiny lady who was instantly recognizable to truck drivers and cab-drivers alike, I was struck by the resentment expressed; and, also, the ignorance without a grasp of what part the Astor family had played in the history of the city of New York, their contributions to "urbanity", when one considers,"Where would Eloise have slept and played her fictional childhood pranks if the Waldorf Astoria had never been built?"

barton,
I happened to catch a glimpse of Keira last night, at a period of time when, in comparison to her rather well known angularity, she was  quite voluptuous, when playing opposite Johnny Depp, a side kick by the name of Bloom(is his first name really Orlando?), and Geoffrey Rush in possibly the second, really not quite sure, of the Pirates of the Caribbean adventure movies.

Was glad of having my memory refreshed because for the life of me could not recall her name when trying to explain to two young check out clerks about how I goofed the day that I attempted to make a passing remark about how much another young person working as a grocery packer resembled Keira. They knew instantly who it was; and, as I had explained, he had not been happy about the comparison at all. He could have been her brother, for being that much alike. As a matter of fact, I didn't care much one way or the other which sex he was; as much as the uncanny resemblence to her appearance and mannerism. How often does that happen?  Often enough, I suppose, if you want to be  a celebrated impersonator.

Turns out he is a pastry chef these days.

Looks like Madonna may have finally met her match.  If it isn't enough for Lady GaGa to piss off Yankee fans by showing up a little under dressed for a game,

She now takes on John Lennon's priceless Steinway,

You go girl!   Wink

Ugh.

Heard another Gibson tape released, in which he says he has given over 5 million to Oksana, and that she pisses away all his money on drugs.  There's a funny line in there about how he is having to sell paintings to feed her jones.  Never a dull moment in this story.

Salon attempted to cover the issue with about six or eight columns by different staff-writers (starting with a psychoanalyst) but have just about got it down at this point as "domestic abuse", which everybody more or less had forgotten about as the years rolled by. Point being that Oksana had to tape for the court to get the message that she could get killed (or the baby), when they didn't seem to pick up on dental work that had to be done when he knocked her front teeth out. Consensus of opinion, professionals and non-professionals describe him as an abusive alcoholic who suffers from depression as an after-affect that he can just about afford any ameliorative but addictive medication to level him back to Hollywood habitual grandiosity.

That latter is described as a state that comes naturally to the acting profession and all other film makers connected with it who are regularly rewarded by the industry for their accomplishment. This is described as one's self-esteem being dependent upon feed-back for
"being somebody other than youself" when the audience(potential fans and long-time fans) knows you only by your performances and hasn't a clue what kind of person you are in relationship to others at home or in your profession, or humanity in general.  That latter is a point of contention for those establishing themselves in the business, whether or not to ally their name/persona with  which or what good cause or is it worth it?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/02/nyregion/02planner.html
Great description of how it is done.

Location was much on my mind, so before running into this link from the bottom of a nytimes.com page, I hunted with the help of Wikipedia for the geographic location of Astor Courts,Rhinebeck; hoping that it really wasn't where Brook Astor was to retire and die.
It was actually her daughter-in-law  who was to recieve what Brook's son,Anthony, by her second marriage, had chosen to steal from her among other things and give the estate at Holly Hill, Scarborough away to his lumpkin wife.

Nevertheless, naturally the thought had occurred to me because the owner of Astor Courts, which was built to his specifications with an indoor  tennis court as well as the exterior, John Jacob Astor,IV  was the father of  Brook's third husband, Vincent Astor, who mostly inherited it all as a result of his father not returning from a honey-moon voyage with a much younger wife. They were aboard the Titanic.
This, in itself, is a peculiar  fey gift to bestow on anybody's wedding.

The details from the wedding planner were precise, well-thought out, covered everything; but, the most interesting thing mentioned in passing, see if you can catch before it slips you by, was how Bill Clinto officiated at the wedding of Anthony Wiener who married Hillary's assistant Huma Abedin.

If you read kidcarter8's take on the long shadowed history of the Clintons, posted in the last fortnight, downstairs in  the Obama White House, that resonates and you realize why you had not heard previously of that particular wedding.  I like Anthony Wiener who has a certain New York charm (even if I learn later that he doesn't live there or hasn't lived there, he still talks like one  who either is or was).

You can think of this as akin to Six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon if you like; if you still don't get that this is American History personified.
