Don't you know how to Slip and Fall Down Carefully? We used to practice that in modern dance class by running across the room and falling down carefully in front of the mirror with ballet barre to catch if we slipped. But I can't show you how. Too old; it would be disastrous. I loved doing it.

I'm usually finding amusing stuff (i.e. vitriol) over in the Obama thread when things heat up...this one, today, struck me as funny:
....as was pointed out a few times already to our resident energy expert, part-time Anti-Semite, and Erectile dysfunctional Communist from Lithuania.
LOL -- don't think I've ever seen such an eclectic assemblage of epithets in one sentence! I suspect its target (whose identity I guess is obvious, given our scarcity of Lithuanian residents here) found this more comic than insulting.

A lot of the funniest comedy is unintentional too. The phrase "I don't think that word means what you think it means" is usually accompanied by a few laughs. --- One of my favorite bits on TV sitcoms is when an actor uses a word out of context and everyone else in the room knows it. Or misunderstands a word that has a contextual meaning, like Rhys Darby's Murray character on Flight of the Conchords discussing Fleetwood Mac with Bret: Murray: "You get a love triangle, Fleetwood Mac situation, although there was four of them, so... more of a love square. Mind you, they did make some of the best music back then."
Bret: "Rumours."
Murray: "No, that's all true." |
