More importantly - couldnt get the winning run in from 3rd in the ninth - with one out.

But....

WELCOME, SCHWARBER.

Not to replay a hypothetical game, but if Vaz runs on anything with two out, rather than losing track of the outs, Schwarber's 2-run dinger is the walk-off game winner.

Verdugo's AB was pretty bad, just hit a fucking flyball, but Vaz base running brain fart was brutal, if he was paying attention he scores 100% of the time.

What play are you talking about? What inning?

bottom of the 3rd.

Vaz was on 2nd 2 outs, and Schwarber flared a soft single to right. If he had run on contact he would have scored easily. In replay you see him watching to see if the ball will be caught. He lost track of the outs.

Sanu's bomb reminded me of Jim Rice's mammoth shot of KC's Steve Busby in July 1975. I was sitting in the CF bleachers on a nice July Friday night when Rice hammered a line shot that went just to the left of the top of the flag pole and continued on a line over the back wall. I watched that ball pass the flag pole, go over the wall, and head north to Maine for a week-end at Bar Harbor.

Unfortunately the game was not televised, but there are some articles recalling the blast, which is just one of 5 balls hit to clear the back wall (pre-CF scoreboard). It was the longest HR I ever saw in person, and according to press accounts, Tom Yawkey said it was the longest HR he ever saw hit in Fenway.

In one week, Mo Vaughn, Nomar, Roger Clemens, Scott Cooper, Johnny Damon, and John Valentin were each a part of  immaculate innings.

Separately, while there are only two pitchers (Koufax is the other) who have thrown three immaculate innings, there were nineteen batters who have been struck out in two immaculate innings!

None in three so far.

It was nice to see Erod pitch that well, despite his leaving behind.

Having Kike and Arroyo on the COVID list provided an unexpected bonus tonight.

Another inning of Whitlock would have been alright with me. Really.

Perez?!

Oh no!

That's terrible. I hope he's okay or recovers swiftly.
