Concerns arising of testing accuracy.  Patients testing negative and then having no further concern.

Exactly why the administration was hesitant to use the WHO tests.  Always best to develop your own - so any valleys can be dealt with - with first hand knowledge.
You will swallow anything if it is slathered with enough Trump.

"President Trump downplaying the severity of the virus......."

Nope.  Simply not so, CNN

We get those coronavirus numbers down to zero yet?

There is no way to square "we have tremendous control of" the virus, and "The worse is yet ahead for us.  It is how we respond to that challenge that is going to determine what the ultimate end point is going to be."

I guess if you think Trump's assessment is more reliable than that of Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, then I suppose you are free to disagree with an assessment that Trump has been downplaying the severity of the situation.

If you are thinking rationally on this and trusting the scientists over a congenital liar, then there is no way to think otherwise.

Trump praised his own press conference on Friday afternoon by the market's reaction.  Trump suggests they do something like that every day, not because of the info that got out to the American people, but because it pushed up stocks.

Today a press conference with the task force that was scheduled for 10:30 has been rescheduled for 3:30, just before markets close.

This is what is driving Trump Admin action on this.  How will the markets react, not what will save lives.  You think otherwise, the con man has you.

I've spent my life being the opposite of a germophobe...

I think of how 8 grew up and germs were the last concern on my mind.
My grandmother had a saying,, “you’re gonna eat a peck of dirt before you die, so don’t worry about!”
....
Be careful.

Will do.   We now have an oversupply of couscous,  tri-color rotini,  beans,  triscuits, hummus,  sardines,  Clif bars, Red potatoes and Larabars.   The spouse mail-ordered a couple items,  and that supply chain seems to be working so far.   Everything is closed here,  so I went to Target and they still had TP.   Rapture!   They were out of Brussels sprouts however, so guess I'm not the only person in the county who likes them (as I'd been led to believe).

Regarding overreaction - the United States is an environment rich in mutagens,  and all the CV strains mutate easily and rapidly.   And the present strain lives on hard surfaces for up to three days.   So it's particularly communicable.  And yes,  the "POTUS" is a lying self-aggrandizing shitsack.

Devin Nunes is playing the role of Kid Carter for the national media, or at least for the Fox News audience:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/16/politics/devin-nunes-social-distancing-restaurants-bars/index.html

Quote
"If you're healthy, you and your family, it's a great time to go out and go to a local restaurant, likely you can get in easily," Nunes said during an interview on Fox News as many cities announced new restrictions on bars and restaurants to limit gatherings.

"Let's not hurt the working people in this country ... go to your local pub," he added.

I think this sort of action by an elected official should be illegal.

If electeds saying stupid and irresponsible things were illegal,  we'd have to lock up half of them.  Actually, not a bad idea.  The bar suggestion was the worst - people pack into bars pretty tightly and alcohol reduces inhibitions about contact.   Restaurants with well-spaced tables aren't as bad,  though you're at the mercy of the owners policy regarding sick leave and how rigorously they enforce health codes for food prep.   If Tyler Durden is working in the kitchen...

Irresponsible and life-threatening are not the same, to my mind.

Even the GOP knows Trump is "president:"

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she would like President Donald Trump to "step back" and appoint a public health official to be the spokesman for the federal government's response to the coronavirus outbreak.

“My suggestion would be Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has been around for decades and is such a well-regarded infectious disease specialist," Collins told reporters in the state capital in remarks first reported by the Portland Press Herald on Friday. Collins' spokeswoman Annie Clark confirmed her remarks to NBC News on Monday.

Collins said that the federal government is making progress in dealing with the outbreak but she "isn't satisfied with the response."

“I think that the messaging at the federal level has been inconsistent, and when you are dealing with a  novel virus like this, it’s very important that health professionals be out front and that there be a consistent message," she said, the newspaper reported.

Susan Collins is trying to keep her seat. Nothing else.

First (and last and always), we had the President insisting that the virus is no big deal.

Then Gov. Stitt was pushing going out (and his position hasn't changed, even if he deleted his tweet).

Rep. Nunes felt compelled to tell folks that their favorite pub likely had plenty of space and they should go out.

Now this:
Quote
David Clarke, the former Milwaukee sheriff who is a prominent supporter of Trump, went a step further. He told his 916,000 Twitter followers that the restrictions being imposed were part of a government plot.

"GO INTO THE STREETS FOLKS. Visit bars, restaurants, shopping malls, CHURCHES and demand that your schools re-open," he tweeted.

"NOW! If government doesn't stop this foolishness ... STAY IN THE STREETS. END GOVERNEMNT CONTROL OVER OUR LIVES. IF NOT NOW, WHEN? THIS IS AN EXPLOITATION OF A CRISIS."

I assume she wrote a strongly worded letter that, on further reflection, she chose not to send.

Babylon Bee

Happy National Day of Prayer, Ward.

If the Bee is right, then God has a lot to answer for. I am pretty sure that if there is an omnipotent deity, it is paying roughly 0% of attention to Earth.
