RIP Dick Allen
A ton of talent.A shame he had to play in front of those racist fans in Philly in the 60'S

At least he didn't have to play in front of the racist Boston fans of the current era. Like you, asshole.

As opposed to the racist fans in Chicago?

"Mays, Mantle, and Maris...but I saw Dick Allen. he was the best, just unbelievable."---Goose Gossage, as quoted in the book "The Quotable Baseball Fanatic", by Louis D. Rubin, Jr.

And here for your listening pleasure, and perhaps, your education, is Goose in an extremely candid interview discussing Allen.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/hall-of-famer-goose-gossage-remembers-his-friend-dick-allen/id1162163703?i=1000501675773

It's truly worth your time, because you never hear a major leaguer talk about another player as though he is just fan the way Gossage does here.

He actually starts crying. It's an amazing tribute, and hearing him get so emotional will move you, too.

"They shouldn't even have a Hall of Fame, if Dick Allen isn't in there."

Multiple sources tell Baseball America that Major League Baseball has sent invitations to 119 of the 120 teams it is inviting to be part of its MLB-developed minor league system.

Yeah.  Minors is changing.  Draft is changing.

I had heard earlier that Manfred wanted just AA and AAA tied to teams.  All else independent.

I guess this article ties in with that.

Going for a repeat of the Pat Gillick Trick? Hope so. Wonder what Girardi thinks?

Report: Indians to bite the dust this week

The Cleveland Indians plan to drop the nickname they have used for more than a century, becoming the latest professional sports franchise to shed its Native American imagery amid accusations that its use is racist, two sources familiar with the decision confirmed to ESPN.

The organization is expected to announce the change this week, sources said, continuing a years-long process in which they abandoned their Chief Wahoo logo and committed to exploring a new nickname, as well.

Spiders seems to be the gaining traction on the internet

its got baseball history and the logo (above) is cool

Although I just read that some guy in DC front-ran the name last year and applied for a Cleveland Spiders trademark;

If the Cleveland Baseball Team (poetic-rolls off the tongue) can get around that issue, and go with Spiders,

I wonder if one of the legs hold a tomahawk?

I suggest, too...the Cleveland Rock, capitalizing on the RocknRoll Hall of Fame that really belongs in Philly.

Can't be in Filly. The Rock hall honors to many African Americans for a racist city like Philadelphia.

While that cap is cool AF, I am not sure the Spiders have a historical record of success.

I too once met a girl in Central Park, but it is not much to remember. What I remember is the time John Wayne killed three men with a carbine as he was falling to the dusty street in Stagecoach, and the time the kitten found Orson Welles in the doorway in The Third Man.
