Most Americans support using the popular vote and not the electoral college vote to select a president, according to data from the Pew Research Center.
About 63% of Americans support using the popular vote, compared to 35% who would rather keep the electoral college system.

Very shoddy and incomplete piece.  NPR usually better.

Nah.

If we changed to a popular vote nation would national elections be taken out of states' hands?  What would the oversight entail?

How so?  What was missing?  I posted it for the Pew research, whose main findings are in the article.

Why would you think that?  Still people going to the polls in each state, or mailing in votes, with state election commissions overseeing it, the votes are counted, the results then added to the other state results.  The assignment of electors is removed from the process, simplifying it and reducing the oversight needed.  Would remove the need for recounts of close results at the state level.  And remove a potential motivation for fraud, since one state's results do not create a slate of electors all for one candidate.  Not that there's been any evidence of fraud of any significance in modern presidential elections.

Sure wouldn't then be anyone looking to vote in more than one state, eh?

Its just numbers - no  reasoning on why electoral college has worked/doesnt work.  And no stating of who was polled, by who, how many and when.

Other than that it was fine

And in Wasshingto....

Buh-bye now.  Buh-bye.  Thanks for your "service".

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/09/politics/jaime-herrera-beutler-concession/index.html

Every so often, you forget yourself and show your true trumpist colors.

This would be one of those times.

Beutler behaved with integrity.

You mock integrity. And your anti-law-and-order flails at the merest notion of integrity.
On the other hand it is a competitive district and the Repo who came in second in the jungle primary (the Democratic candidate was first) has connections to right wing extremists which bodes well for a Democratic gain.

If we use just the simple vote, then the tyranny of the majority upsets the tyranny of the minority. OTOH, if we have a national election day on the first Sunday of November and we use ranked choice voting ala the State of Maine, I think a lot of folks could get behind that.

But likely not enough votes can be had to amend the Constitution, especially when lobbyists realize their pigs might get slaughtered.

Judging from recent history that would be Republicans

Yes. That's the point of the whole discussion.
