On the issue of social systems which take care of their seniors and which value their elders...

I was taught very young in elementary school about the Mayan people of Mexico and about their social system where the children and young people took care of the elders, while the elders were the leaders in the Government, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Childhood_in_Maya_society

And in Europe today the people live with their whole extended family and they help their elders, while at the same time the elders can baby-sit the children while the younger adults work, etc.

The culture in the United States where you are on your own at 18 years old is different. When I was a little kid I worked with my Grandmother, she was a dog groomer and I washed dogs for her to help her to buy food and to pay the rent, so I did help my Grandmother. But, when I was homeless on the street no one in my family felt obligated to help me, and I was on my own. I was homeless for 2 years, and no one cared. And even worse, when I was homeless in Hollywood it was against the law to feed the homeless, there were times when I went up to 3 days without eating.

I support communities where they value their elders, and where they have a sense of family and a sense of community. Italy is my favorite country, maybe I will move to Italy and marry an Italian woman and get a big Italian family and grow old where the elders are valued.

I am also a Christian, and I support helping the needy as the Bible tells us to in Matthew 25; 31-46, in a Christian community people would have helped me when I was homeless. In Italy they do not have homeless people because Italy is a Christian nation and they help each other. Also Italy has hostels where you can take a shower and where you can sleep in a bed for $15 per night.

( Of Note, we have rich Christians coming to the USA from the Philippines who are helping the homeless here in California, and they are helping the Foster Children, etc. We also have doctors here from the Philippines who are treating our poor here in California. )

Salute,

Tony V.

Fights and murders in Downtown Anaheim, at the beautiful Garden Walk right by Disney, this is unacceptable and we need better security and neighborhood watch.

https://ktla.com/news/local-news/2-men-found-dead-after-shooting-at-anaheim-gardenwalk/

Anaheim is beautiful, and we are rich, we do not need to accept crime and problems. Just like you will never see unruly behavior in Monte Carlo, they have money and class, and they have security and body guards and cops all over.

And just like Beverly Hills, they will not tolerate the high crime in Beverly Hills, they are rich and they can afford security guards, etc.

As we help the homeless our already over-crowded healthcare system is struggling, we have a huge shortage of doctors, and of psychiatrists, etc. Also, the poor people are not getting the same high quality healthcare that the rich people are getting.

We need to train more doctors, and psychiatrists, etc. And the doctors and nurses from the Philippines are welcome here in the USA.

Here locally we have the University of California in Irvine Medical School which is training local doctors, and we have other great medical schools in Southern California, and we have San Diego State University which is training psychiatrists.

We need to invest in education here in the USA and we need to train more doctors and psychiatrists. And as we get the homeless people into housing they will all need doctors, etc.

Las Vegas Review-Journal

Brightline West envisions opening its decade-plus-in-the-making high-speed rail line between Las Vegas and Southern California by the time the 2028 Olympics Games in Los Angeles begin → bit.ly/45kBYWl

-------------

All of the jobs building our high speed train are going to be Union jobs, good jobs will be created.

We need to make our immigrants legal, and we need to put them to work, they can grow food, they can drive trucks, they can build housing, and they can help to build our high speed trains, etc, etc, etc.

And we can build a high speed train between New York City and Washington DC, and between Chicago and Detroit, and we can build high speed trains for other routes. We can bring the immigrants up from our Southern Border and we can put them to work building our high speed rail, etc.

The USA is heading in the wrong direction, we need to unite all as Americans and we need to support the ACLU, and we need to support our Equal Opportunity Act of 1964, and our Fair Housing Act of 1968, and we need to remember that God created all men as equals, and we all have the same rights in America. We fought and we worked hard to get to the place where we are today in America. We must not go backwards, and we certainly do not want to go back to segregation.

America must not destroy itself with Americans fighting against Americans. Lincoln said that no enemy could ever so much as take a drink of water from the Ohio River, we are strong if we work together as equals, but if America falls it will be because of Americans fighting against each other and destroying America from within.

The NAACP has advised Black people to avoid Florida, and we are heading in the wrong direction.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2023/05/naacp-travel-advisory-ron-desantis-florida

The last time I was in Florida there were commercials on television asking people to join together to teach poor uneducated adults how to read with a charity which was founded by the founder of Famous Amos Cookies who is a beloved Black man. We all need to work together to teach our poor people how to read, and to help the children who do not have fathers, etc, and we all need to support good human rights for all people. Florida loves Famous Amos, Florida is not racist.

And the Seminole Native American Indian Tribe in Florida is very successful.

We need to all have equal rights in America, and we need to build schools instead of prisons.

If DeSantis has not banned Famous Amos already, he likely soon will.

Meanwhile, across the seas...

Older Australian women are becoming homeless in record numbers

#####

An absolute disgrace.
Someone's mom, someone's sister.

Fast becoming like America, where older American women are homeless in great numbers...one such woman living in a tent was shown on Youtube, terribly incontinent, a man from a doctor group trying to assist her live a better life in her squalor.

Yes, like that link posted in Elba yesterday..."the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer".

Hopefully the person at the top, in each country, will soon wake up one morning and say "enough is enough", and DO something to solve the problem.

Not only older women...and not only in America now;

Sydney's housing crisis is driving a wave of "working homeless", residents who can't find or afford a home despite holding a job, with the situation so bad an encampment of tents and car sleepers has emerged in the heart of Anthony Albanese's inner-west electorate.

Tents are pitched in the grounds of Enmore park, 3.4km from the Prime Ministers's Marrickville home, complete with portable BBQs, water supplies, sleeping bags, tarps, cats and dogs - on top of "community" of utes, vans and cars with night sleepers surrounding the popular park.

Many of the rough sleepers hold down jobs and have been forced into the drastic circumstances because of soaring rents and a lack of accommodation, with advocates slamming the housing system as "broken".

Last week, while temperatures outside dipped to just under nine degrees [celsius], The Daily Telegraph spoke to multiple victims of the city's "out of control" housing crunch.

Kerry, in her 30s, works as a jeweller by day but at night lives with her black cat and toy poodle dog Chelsea in a tent in the middle of Enmore Park.

#####

Well there you go.

Maybe Albo...he of the "Joe/Albo climate deal"...could erect a solar panels/battery structure in 'his' park, for the homeless folk...so Kerry, Chelsea and
black kitty kat can stay warm and have hot food to eat.

Joe could do the same in America.

video from the court:
'Families confront Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz in court'

Man:
"when you die, it is my fondest hope that they take you and burn you, and take your ashes and throw them in the garbage dump... you know why? because, garbage to garbage."

Woman:
"I wish no peace for you...I wish nothing but pain".

Bambi you should think about keeping private equity out of the residential housing game entirely. It rapidly becomes a purely parasitic relationship. Make the fat bastards put their money into genuinely productive projects or steadily go broke.

Without private investors buying apartments/homes for long term capital gain, and renting them out to use the rent to pay off the mortgage, the state govts would have to provide the housing...smacks of the dreaded "socialism', capitalists would say.
Who knows where Albo's one million new immigrants will be living.

There are about 164,000 to 200,000 empty properties in Sydney (reportedly being bought and "warehoused" for future occupation by, well, someone....or for future capital gain.)
And five figure waiting list for public housing.
"One third of homes in Millers Point (harbourside enclave) were empty on census night".

"Just about all of them are Airbnb".

Cottage A...3bedrooms, 2 bathrooms sleeps 6...$485 a night.

485 x 7 = $3,395 pw.

As the Crow flies

Even if Crow has had no direct SCOTUS dealings, he knows people who do, and he supports think tanks that have submitted amicus briefs. That Crow could imagine (as he does to an interviewer in The Atlantic) this doesn't all smell of graft and rotting fish is hard to swallow.
