So EV sales are not increasing?

So EV sales are not increasing?
Yes. They are.
But not at a pace that is encouraging to the makers of the cars

GM and Honda canceled a partnership to build affordable EVs, and both Ford and GM have scaled back their ambitions for converting to electric car production quickly.
EV makers, including Tesla, have had to reduce prices, as cars have remained unsold.

So if sales are increasing how can a statement like "...Americans did not want EVs when this wasteful spending was passed and they do not want them now..." be true?

Red points out what happens when republicans in congress plot to overturn the government rather than do the work they are paid to do.

No wonder so many republicans are resigning or being expelled in the middle of the term. It is pathetic and damaging to the country.

Pretty simple economics.
Congress appropriated billions for charging stations and none have been built.
Who is going to invest in building them if the cars are not selling at a rate that will demand the stations.

The Musk EV plan included stations so if you own a Tesla  you have a full service car that has a gps to  guide your car along a destination full of charging stations and how you are progressing.
But the bottom line is sales. Even if the rate is up if it does not meet a break point in profitability for the manufacturer then cars will not be built.

Do Americans want EVs or not? The article you quoted approvingly says they do not. Increasing sales say otherwise.

Then ask Honda, GM,Ford why they are cutting back production. Or Tesla as to why it is lowering prices.

Besides being an ideas man...bambu is also a "what if" man.

What if...one buys an EV, with the warranty on the battery usually being 100,000 miles, ...and the battery fails at 150.000 miles?
The cost to replace the battery is from $4,000 tp $20,000 depending on car make and model.

How much money was spent on electricity, compared to the total cost of gasoline it would take to drive that distance?

More to the point, would EV owners not opt to extend warranty, if that is the approach?  Some companies are developing battery leasing plans and other financial instruments to soften landings on battery failures.  New tech, things are being worked out.

I know what their answers will be. But the statement that Americans do not want EVS is stupid.

Actually it is quite accurate.
Or we would not have billions of tax payer dollars misappropriated for charging stations for EVs whose sales are causing car makers to
Pull back from.
The government can try to mandate sales for political purposes but the horse, no matter what lake it is led  to, still cannot be made to drink from it.

4 in 10 Americans are planning to buy an EV at some point.  That's a pretty big market.  And the percentage is higher among younger drivers.  Sensing a trend there...

Why are sales increasing? The writer should have simply said that he did not want an EV. That would be accurate. That you gripe about political purposes is both hilarious and ironic.

What if they are?
They are not increasing at a rate  that imeets industry confidence.
GM, Ford, Honda have been around for a long time. I think they know what they are doing. ( Edsel was an outlier, LOl)

Sales are increasing because Americans want EVs.
