Certainly there must be justice, but not just continuous murder.

This morning, Tony V nailed it in one sentence.
Blend squirrel, acorn.

That is supposed to be blind, but frankly that typo cracks me up and I am leaving it in.

Makes a mean squirrel acorn pie.  Just remember to remove the brain - thats where the Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is usually found.

Ward v Bob.  Well, neither was in one of those few that got double digit AAs or near, like LOTR:RotK, Titanic, Ben Hur, West Side Story, English Patient, Last Emperor,  Gigi, Slumdog Millionaire, say.  Now Bond was in GWTW, which won eight competitive AAs, so that's a good start.  And Bobby was in Deer Hunter (won 5) and Godfather II (won 6), also a good start.  It seems to me that Bond was in a fair amount of highly acclaimed films that got zero Oscars, like The Searchers, but much AFI love.  Same for Bob.  Really, it would come down to an accounting for all those great films that pulled in one or two statuettes.  No idea.

Also worth noting Leo DiCaprio is in quite a few with big AA numbers.  And there's Peter O'Toole, who would be in the running with The Last Emperor, Larry of Arabia, and Lion in Winter, for starters.

Actually I'm starting to lean towards Leo.

Toughie to nail that stat down!  Maybe DeNiro?  My rough count puts him on top.

Loved The Fall Guy.  Rambunctious and droll actioner slash romcom -and love letter to the professional stunt man.  And another fine entry to the movie-within-a-movie plotline.  Our hero does have a spot of trouble with a hotel key card - understandable.

RIP Frank Stella, whose widely-ranging work I much admired.

A star, indeed (stella is star in Italian).

...not sugary, nutrition free junk.

That could describe the Boyardee slop almost as well as the pop tarts.

Spouse and I finally caught The Eyes of Tammy Faye.  Now clear to me why no one but no one disputed Chastain winning the BA Oscar.  Made me think of her also fine perf in Molly's Game, both films in which she plays a nice girl from the heartland who gets sucked into a world of money and deceit.

The airport concession roasted him online because 80% of the tab was his bar bill.
Yeah, Brooks has finger on the pulse of Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea!

Brooks has impressed me at times, but lately his compass seems no longer to point to magnetic north.

And I notice others, who actually covered the protests, saw something a bit different from the RW depiction.

Quote
As former Washington Post journalist Paul Waldman explained in his newsletter, People who have actually reported from the protests  have by and large found them to be well-behaved. The vast majority of scary, violent images stem not from the protesters themselves, Waldman argues, but from the police crackdowns...

Still the reading comprehension problems.  Both you (Luee) and JimDick.

Constitution protects free speech - I didn't say it protected threats, harm, or incitement to violence.  Pro Palestinian is not the same as anti-Semitic hate speech.  Were some criticisms of Israel crossing the line?  No doubt.  Are some protestors poisoning  peaceful protest and 1st Amendment exercise by violence and hate speech?  No doubt.  But that doesn't mean anyone has the right to beat up anyone in a group that's protesting Israel current policy or warfare conduct. Like Larry's peaceful colllege pal.  Last time I'm going to parse this here.  Either some brain areas can recover from severe cognitive impairment or they can't.   Good luck.  Over and out.

(ETA: fix typo which made it look, erroneously, that I was also directing the remarks to YG)

I'm posting stuff in the On Deeper Consideration thread occasionally, in hopes that serious readers can find something of interest there minus the usual tidal wave of shitposts this thread seems to attract.

A somewhat different take on socialism.

Japanese philosopher challenges the received wisdom of the Green New Deal, and looks at how Marx changed some of his views later in his life.   Eco-socialism is the move towards degrowth and away from capitalism.
