Pretty competitive though, eh, Josh?

Don't be such a prick.  Maybe bring another baseball issue to light, so the horse can rest in peace.

Clearly, it's all on me, Kid. After all, I keep bringing up the topic with no prompting from anybody else.

And it's hilarious that you start with a comment that continues that topic and then tell me that I am being a prick and that I should bring up a new topic.

I wondered already at the Red Sox' having let go their first base coach, with no explanation, beyond their claim that it was not related to his vaccination refusal. Didn't generate a lot of conversation.

Their hitting coach has chosen to move on rather than returning, as the Red Sox expected. No explanation for that, either. If he has another job offer or two in hand, it would make plenty of sense. If not, then it's curious.

The difficulty the Mets are having with their front office hires is curious.

And how often has a manager with a job taken the same position with another team for the following year, when he already had a contract for that year?! It was an interesting move by Bob Melvin and the Padres.

I think the Padres job is a great one.

I am planning to merge this back into the main MLB thread.

Any objections?!

ETA 3 days later, having heard not a peep, the threads have been merged.

Melvin move from NorCal to SoCal?

A true no brainer - and a defining move from Beane and Schott to allow it, knowing BM can make more money in SD.

(may have been family implications as well)

Red Sox have extended a qualifying offer to Erod.

JD has decided to stay with the Red Sox.

And perhaps part of the reason for Hyers' decision to leave was that they were going to promote Fatse to co-hitting coach instead of his being assistant hitting coach again. Regardless, Fatse is reported to be getting the job. Wonder who his assistant is going to be.

Joc Pederson - seemed to be having such a great time in ATL

Declines option.

Sad.

Smart. He's leaving those rednecks clutching their pearls.

An excellent CF when he came up. No more I assume as he has put on a lot of weight.

I've been clearing/cleaning out my house - a very slow process, unfortunately.

But tonight, I dug down far enough that I found my ALCS and World Series tickets from 1975!

Also a Boston Garden Yes concert and a Bruins game from that time period, roughly. Lots of other entertaining items.

I'd previously found the programs for those WS and ALCS games. I am sure somebody will enjoy having them.

Also, separately, tripped across an April 2004 Business Week (of all things) on whether the Red Sox could finally get past the Yankees and win it all.

It would be pretty funny if Shildt won the Manager award after having been fired. I think it will be Kapler. In the AL, the Mariner's skipper would be my bet.

If somebody other than Ohtani wins the MVP I'd be surprised. Harper looks likely to win in the NL.

I'm thinking Ray and Burnes for Cy Young.

Franco would be my ROY bet. I have no opinion in the NL contest.

I wonder when and for whom the Manager of the Year and MVP awards will be named. It seems inevitable, though I could see them giving the two MVP awards different names.
