Paramount was for sale for $11 Billion, which would have been great for Mel Gibson, Sly, Arnold, and those guys, but then Sony and the Japanese stepped in and offered $36 Billion for Paramount. I do not think that we should let the Japanese buy Paramount, I would rather see it go to Arnold, Mel, Sly, and those guys, and the rich people from the Philippines can help, so I sent the idea to Manny Pacquiao. Anyhow, I hope the regulatory groups stop Sony from buying Paramount, and I want for Sly, Arnold, Mel, and Manny, etc, to buy Paramount.

Salute,

Mr. Hoover was an engineer. He knew that water trickles down... But he didnt know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night, anyhow. But it will at least have passed through the poor fellows hands.

...not sugary, nutrition free junk.

That could describe the Boyardee slop almost as well as the pop tarts.

Spouse and I finally caught The Eyes of Tammy Faye.  Now clear to me why no one but no one disputed Chastain winning the BA Oscar.  Made me think of her also fine perf in Molly's Game, both films in which she plays a nice girl from the heartland who gets sucked into a world of money and deceit.

Jessica Chastain attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts around the same time that I did, and she produced "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" herself. I took the same route after the AADA and tried to produce a film named "Echo, A Rock and Roll Tragedy" which Hugh Hefner liked and we almost got it made if we could have found a director who Hef knew and trusted. I never was able to get my film made, but I will keep trying. I live by Chapman film school, and maybe I can meet a connection there to help me to make my film, or sell it and let someone else do it. If my dream came true then I would like to move into a bungalow office at Universal Studios in Hollywood and just live there while I make my film. We will see what happens. Meanwhile, it is nice to see Chastain succeed.

And on the issue of the movie about a civil war in the USA with California and Texas rebelling, that is just shit. Here is a better idea, make a movie about Christian hippies taking over Iran and making Iran into a Christian hippy commune with peace and love, and wealthy from oil money. Give the world a new vision on what Iran can become. Let Hollywood dream about what Iran can become.

Salute,

E. J. Smith goes down with the ship. Again. As Theodore King rides to ruin and the world's.ending!

Did not realize he was also in Ghandi, probably in the 2 hours or so I slept through. Which makes 32 Oscars at least won by the films he appeared in. I wonder what the record is?

Toughie to nail that stat down!  Maybe DeNiro?  My rough count puts him on top.

Loved The Fall Guy.  Rambunctious and droll actioner slash romcom -and love letter to the professional stunt man.  And another fine entry to the movie-within-a-movie plotline.  Our hero does have a spot of trouble with a hotel key card - understandable.

I assume it was someone like Ward Bond.

Caught Charade for the first time in full (I had seen pieces parts). One of many films called the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock did not make, but I did not see it as that caliber, though nicely done and suspenseful. And any time I can see Ms. Ruston and Mr. Leach together is a treat, even if the obvious age difference was off putting. James Coburn did a horrible Texas accent which took me out of the movie every time he spoke, because it was not only bad but unnatural.

Ward v Bob.  Well, neither was in one of those few that got double digit AAs or near, like LOTR:RotK, Titanic, Ben Hur, West Side Story, English Patient, Last Emperor,  Gigi, Slumdog Millionaire, say.  Now Bond was in GWTW, which won eight competitive AAs, so that's a good start.  And Bobby was in Deer Hunter (won 5) and Godfather II (won 6), also a good start.  It seems to me that Bond was in a fair amount of highly acclaimed films that got zero Oscars, like The Searchers, but much AFI love.  Same for Bob.  Really, it would come down to an accounting for all those great films that pulled in one or two statuettes.  No idea.

Also worth noting Leo DiCaprio is in quite a few with big AA numbers.  And there's Peter O'Toole, who would be in the running with The Last Emperor, Larry of Arabia, and Lion in Winter, for starters.

Actually I'm starting to lean towards Leo.

O'Toole has about 21, or if you prefer 20.5, depending on how you count ties. Other than the three you mention, the only Oscar I can see is Raccacoonie. Leo has several films with 2, 3 or 4 Oscars which is what propels him.

And Ward Bond at 26 competitive Oscars (It's A Meh Life won one for designing artificial snow) I think. God he was in a lot of great movies you did not realize he was in. Like playing the bus driver in It Happened One Night. Also some I thought had won a Oscar ot two, like Young Mr. Lincoln. (Tough year; the director, John Ford won for a movie Bond was NOT in) .
