17, 7 and 5 with 2 steals per for Pippen in playoffs - final year with Bulls at age 32.  20 PER player

Other PER for season were

Kukoc  17
Burrell 16
Harper 15
Longley  13
Kerr  13
Rodman  12

(for players 15+ minutes per game)

Bad playoff series his one year in HOU (just 54 games total - strike year)

Hoopshype had an article about Kareem's bona fides for GOAT.  And one knock was that there weren't other great C's in his prime.  But I think that's a phony argument.

Kareem had a few years overlap with an aging, still dominant Wilt.  Same with Willis.  Nate Thurmond was still a mofo the first 5 years of Kareems career.

Wes Unseld was both Rook of the Year and MVP the year before Kareem entered the league, so their careers coincided.  Wes took his team to three '70's Finals.

Cowens was another almost exact contemporary of Kareem's.  Cowens averaged 18 & 14 & 4 in 10 seasons with BOS.  Also won 1 MVP and was Top 4 in MVP votes three other years.

Bob Lanier, Artis Gilmore -- these were big tough dudes.
Lanier's career started the year after Kareem's.  Career 20 & 10 guy.
Bob McAdoo played a lot of C and was a scoring machine.  Won an MVP.

Artis started a year after Lanier (2 after Kareem) but ABA-ed it for 5 seasons.
So he was a mid/late rival to Kareem.
As was Bill Walton, a major force for a few years.  Then there was a dominant Moses Malone.

Seems like a helluva lot of great Big C's in the 70's, to Bo.
In fact from 1970 (Willis) to 1980, only C's won the MVP award (5 of 11 times it was Kareem).

I think Kareem gets devalued somewhat because he only won 1 title as The Man.  And was 2nd best to Magic on his 5 other title teams.  And the 70's was a bit of a lull in the NBA, without a dominant team, before the revival ushered in by Bird & Magic (and the Celt/Laker dominance/rivalry).

Two franchises have never won their division.  One in the East, One in the West.  Name them.

Interesting.  Lonnie Walker IV says he was sexually abused as a kid and wearing his hair in unusual ways was a form of therapy for him, something he could control and hide behind.  A way to look confident and hide his insecurity.

Feeling better mentally, he decided to cut off his flop locks.
Brave to come out in public.
Read in his longish statement in the link.  Makes you want to pull for him.

Devalued by you maybe.

The bold part is absolute rubbish.

Okay, Kareem was the best player on the 1980 team, though Magic as a rookie won the Finals with Kareem injured.  So that gives Kareem two titles as The Man.

By the 2nd title two years later, Kareem was 34 and still in fine form, but Magic nearly averaged a tripled double.  9.6 boards, 9.5 assist, 18.6 Pts.  And it was Magic's team.

After that, for the 3 remaining titles there is no doubt it was Magic's team.
And for the last 2 titles, Worthy was probably the #2 man ahead of a 39/40 year old Kareem.

Otherwise I usually have Kareem a bit higher than the consensus..

Speaking of the 1980 champion Lakers, I've long though that "Magic played center!!!!" in the clinching game (Kareem was down with an ankle injury) was one of the great NBA myths.  He might have taken the jump ball, but on offense, he continued to bring the ball up and he never played in the post, and on defense he certainly never covered Dawkins or otherwise played low-post defense.  How was that, in any way, "playing center."?

Too much home time makes for too many idle thoughts.

There is no need to make this distinction
