The comparison I've usually seen is with the 60 year old teacher Mark Fogel, who got a stiffer sentence than Griner, for MM treating severe arthritis.  The outrage was mainly focused on his case not being mentioned by Biden and only reaching mid-level State Department officials.

Was Ms Griner properly represented?  Did they go overboard in accusing Russian authorities of being strict vs Ms Griner because she is

a)  black
b)  gay
c)  famous?

Had they played it more low key like Lorber did, who knows?  Nope.   Had to rile up all America to decry the big bad Russians as evil.

And now......as we are now where we are in this  case - Biden has been warned to do this through proper channels (low key) and to not propogandize  the matter.  Lets see what occurs.
