Ah. The ol' "if you know so much you should be X" line of attack. Makes posting here, or anywhere, a waste of time I guess. Okay, you win: every coach is good and every AD is wise. Kind of a twist on ESPN3's "every ref is good and every call is right" way of doing things.

Mr. Utley informed me couple of weeks back that the Phillies bullpen is "better than you think."  I admit he might be right because I think the Phillies bullpen is among the worst I've ever seen.  They couldn't possibly be that terrible and thus they're likely "better "than I think. Nobody there throws a first-pitch strike.  Just dreadful.

Good one! Herm's not much of a coach.  I've been using "coach" in quotes for years, likely from before you were born, and its use has been for all sports and its gently sarcastic tone  knows no racial boundaries. See my comments on "Coach" Mark Richt, one-time Clemson "mastermind"  Rick Barnes and a host of others. I could well be wrong in my assessment of these guys' coaching "ability" but it sure ain't because of race.

That's the only way anyone can lose to a Herm Edwards-"coached" team.

That's always a lame defense. He has discretion. As an analogy, the baseball rulebook clearly states that ANY judgment call (not just balls and strikes) is final (replay rules noted). Rule 8.02 Do you think the game is well-served by an umpire saying "I was just doing my job" in ejecting or otherwise penalizing a player or manager as rules allow for arguing a judgment call?  I'm not even assuming evil motives to the chair ump. Just idiotic ones.

So.... just because its a GS final - and because the best player in the galaxy is losing, this umpire's "discretion" should be to allow Serena to break her racket in obvious disgust and calmly say, "please don't do that again, Ms Williams" - and nothing else?
Yes.

Re:  Serena and the US Open (and womens tennis in general) money

You dont think she was given the proper respect by those benefitting.  By her opponent, for instance?

Further - do you think she owes Ms Osaka an apology?
I care little about tennis, but if apologies are required I think the Chair Umpire owes everybody one.

The Redskins look like a model of professionalism next to the Cardinals.

Peterman will be fine as long as he doesn't hire Elaine Benes to work for him.
