Biden Administration / News in General

https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/new-problem-at-SF-sinking-tower-17179301.php

The Millennium Tower's been sinking for years. The attempted fix has run into a problem and it is exacerbating a tilt that the building already had!

Values of homes in the building have dropped sharply by as much as half.

The intended fix seems to have been making thing worse.

Baseball / 2022 MLB Predictions
« on: April 04, 2022, 01:03:38 PM »
Lots of changes ahead in MLB!

Three wild card teams, not just one or two. Two first round byes, with the other four teams in a pair of 3-game series. The team with the better record in the first round hosts all three games. The link explains both the changes and what some prior seasons would have looked like:
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/what-the-new-12-team-mlb-playoffs-will-look-like-and-how-it-would-have-looked-in-recent-years/

Who do you think will win in each division and of those who will get to miss the first round? Who will the 2022 wild cards be?
And who comes out of each round?!

Plus, of course, who do you think will win the World Series?

Any other predictions you would care to make about the season? MVPs and Cy Youngs for either or both leagues? RoY? Managers who will get fired during the season? Any records that might get broken?

Does Chris Sale look like Chris Sale when he pitches this year or will he resemble chris sale instead? Anybody going to threaten 61 homers for the season (which is still the non-steroid mark). Other thoughts?

Biden Administration / Russia's Invasion of Ukraine
« on: February 24, 2022, 01:18:43 PM »
As Putin prepped and then launched the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many top conservatives (a) rushed to his defense and (b) blamed Biden for it.

But whether, as the GOP would have it, this only happened because of Biden's weakness, or this only happened because of GOP coddling of and support for Putin, it has happened.

The truth of the matter is that it shouldn't matter whether our president is strong or weak or our opposition party is encouraging and complicit or supportive of the occupant of the White House. The person responsible for this invasion is Vladimir Putin, would-be President-for-Life of Russia.

What do you think should be our response at this point and what, if anything, should the NATO response be?

Other Sports / Olympics

Did you know about the Refugee Olympic Team?

29 athletes from 11 different countries, competing under a single banner.

It is so terrible that it needs to exist and so wonderful that it does.

Upon Deeper Consideration / Upon Deeper Consideration
« on: December 15, 2020, 08:12:32 PM »
I would like to use this space to discuss issues more thoroughly and with zero personal attacks.

My hope is for us to explore questions like "how do we establish that X behavior exists?" and "given that X behavior exists, what are its underlying causes," then finally with it, "is it possible to alleviate X behavior, even if we cannot eliminate it, and if so how might we do it? what would not work and what seems to have worked, elsewhere, if anywhere?"

I'm thinking of items like the death penalty, types and levels of taxation (if any), abortion/abortion bans, separation of church and state vs. state religion, racism in society (ours and others), other forms of prejudice, public education (pre-k through post-graduate, including technical), etc.

Opinions are welcome, especially when fleshed out and supported by facts.

But "lol" is not an opinion. Nor is "you should read what you wrote." Similarly, "all you do is lie, deny, and obfuscate" is not permitted.

That kind of response will be deleted the first time. The poster(s) of such things will be given a warning the 2nd time. And they will be suspended for a week the third time.

Thoughts, reactions, ideas?

Any serious questions?

What observations do you have to make about the Biden/Harris Administration? What questions do you have to ask?
