In 1890, nearly 90% of laborers in NYC's Department of Public Works were Italian immigrants. They laid roads, built bridges, and moved millions of cubic yards of soil and rock to create the New York City Subway.

----------

I spent 6 weeks in Rome, Italy, in 2003, I wanted to work in the Italian Cinema at Cinecitta, and Scorsese had just been there filming "The Gangs of New York" and Rome was hot at that time for filmmakers. I could not find any acting work while I was there, but I had a wonderful time with the people there, and a funny thing, I was trying to move to live in Rome, while all of the Italians wanted to move to live in America. And all of the Italians spoke English. I love Rome. I tried to get a job at the United States Embassy there too, I was told it is a great place to work while one tries to get acting work, etc. And they had McDonald's, and the Hard Rock Cafe, etc, there by the Pantheon, and by the Embassy.  Anyhow, the Italians love the USA. All of my roommates at my hostel on Via Urbana were soldiers from Sicily, and this was in 2003 and we were fighting against Terrorism and the Italian soldiers were on our team in the fight against Terrorism. Italy is on our team against the terrorists. The Italians love the USA.

Cesar Chavez said that the best use of an education is to help other people, and he spent his whole life in the service of others, and he died poor.

Cesar Chavez was one of my heroes, and there were other great labor leaders through-out history including Eugene V. Debs, and Jimmy Hoffa. And in Poland they had Lech Walesa, he was a hero, and he went from being an unemployed electrician to leading Poland to freedom with Solidarity, someone needs to make a movie about Lech Walesa, I think Ron Howard could do a good job.

Of note on the issue of leaders, I follow Giorgia Meloni of Italy on Facebook, and she recently stated that she worked with Pope John Paul II at one time, and I found that fascinating, I wonder what they worked on? And Pope John Paul II and Lech Walesa were both from Poland, and worked together to bring freedom to Poland and to bring down the Berlin Wall.

That right there is enough of a response to fail you a competency test. In exchange for your keys someone will be along to feed you mushy peas. If you are lucky and into that sort of thing, they will have knockers to rival Bambu.

In some Aged Care facilities in my world...read 'nursing homes', ...where residents are, well, in need of looking after........some nasty staff are allegedly delivering nice meals to the residents in their rooms, but deliberately placing the plates out of reach of the residents...then returning and removing the uneaten nice meals...and taking them home to their places and eating them themselves!
The residents wasting away to shadows.

This was allegedly going on in some public hospitals some time ago, patients being starved to death.

Mushy peas would at least be a meal.
No way I'm going into aged care, I'll be making sure of that.
Being starved to death is not on my bucket list.
I probably wouldn't like any of the food anyway...so if I couldn't dine out, or have takeaway delivered I'd be in total misery.
Being in total misery is not on my bucket list either.

I met a lady who lived in Leisure World in Laguna Beach which is a retirement home, and she said they ate strawberries by the swimming pool while they drank champagne, and she said they rode horses on the beach at midnight, she said it is a great place. But, that is for the well to do people, if you are able to retire to Leisure World then you are blessed and lucky.

The forest of Canada is a great place to send the refugees from the Middle East, and Kiwanis has a village in Victoria, Canada, the refugees can work in the Lumber Industry, etc. They can live peaceful lives like in a peaceful Canadian Hallmark movie.

Also, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, are good places to send the Muslim refugees to be Essential Workers.

And Kiwanis will help the children, as will UNICEF, etc.

For the poor people in the Middle East with children, then the best thing they could do is to come live in the Kiwanis Village in Victoria, British Columbia, they can have peace away from the war zone. Or they can be a truck driver in Abu Dhabi or in Dubai, or a construction worker, or a grocery store worker, etc.

In Tehachapi there is a former YMCA camp that has a running mountain stream on the property, and we used to drink the water straight out of the stream, I was in charge of the water for the camp, we had a catch basin with a pipe running to a big water tank, and then from the tank the water flowed down hill to the camp, and it was gravity fed and we went from large pipes to smaller pipes to build pressure, etc. Anyhow, the camp is gone now, but the Mountain Stream is still there, and that water could be bottled and sold to raise money for charities.

Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, and Kiwanis International, and others, could sell Bottled Water at the Convenience Stores, at 7-Eleven, and Circle K, and AM-PM, etc, and they can get the water from the Mountain Stream at the former YMCA camp in Tehachapi.

We could all support a good charity when we buy Bottled Water.

Due to the wonderful amount of rain this year then we can count on beautiful wild flowers in the desert this spring. People flock to the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve every year to view the poppies. I suggested to Mayor Bass that there be Homeboy Industries and Homegirl Industries Food Trucks to sell food to the the people who come out to see the poppies, in order to raise money to do Social Work, and also there needs to be lots of Public Toilets. Even just having carts selling Hot Dogs and Ice Cold Lemonade to raise money to feed the needy, etc, or burritos with horchata, etc, or burgers and Coca Cola, etc, bottled water, etc. In Rome, Italy, there are food trucks and food carts at all of the attractions, we need to do the same thing here in the USA, and they can raise money to do Social Work, etc.

Also, a new Apartment Complex just opened in Lancaster, California, for the homeless, the complex is designed cool, it is sort of Mid Century Modern, and it has 80 apartments, and I reminded them to add swimming pools and tennis courts and libraries to all of their projects. Parks are also important, people need green space.

And in Lancaster the Joshua Trees need to be preserved and they need Parks to be established to save the Joshua Trees. In the whole Mojave Desert we need to work to save the Joshua Trees, we need huge Parks to preserve the Joshua Trees.

And as always we need schools, and Lancaster needs a Medical School like the University of California in Irvine Medical School in Orange.

My Representative from City Hall was just here, she knocked on my door and she introduced herself. It is very nice to have good leadership in Anaheim, and Natalie Rubalcava has my support.

I told her every idea that I could think of while she was at my door, it was a great opportunity to share some ideas real quick with her while she was here, it is such a cool thing to have a leader who cares enough to knock and then listen to some of my thoughts on our City.

Anaheim is a good City, and I have been blessed to live here. And I have been able to witness the American Dream as the immigrants have come into this apartment complex over the years, and I told her about Esperanza and Bing and about how they used to help the refugee children. I told her about how the complex is now owned by a corporation, and it is not magical like when Esperanza and Bing were helping the refugee children over the years.

And I told her that we need to make our immigrants legal, like Reagan did, so that they can call the police to report crimes and so that they can be protected by our laws, etc. The first thing Reagan did was to make our immigrants legal, to bring our people out of the shadows so they can call the cops and so they can join labor unions, etc. And Lou Correa is working to help to make our immigrants legal. We need to put politics aside and do what is right for the people, we need to make everyone legal so that they are protected by our laws.

I also told her that we need a new owner for the Angels Baseball Team and I suggested that Gwen Stefani and her friends from Vegas buy the Angels, I would love to see Gwen buy the Angels.

Meanwhile, I told her that I walk through La Palma Park to go to Carl's Jr and I feel totally safe here, there are children playing in the park, and it is a safe park. I am grateful to live in a safe area.

Anyhow, I was not prepared to have company, and I was not dressed appropriately to meet my Rep at City Hall, but I am glad that I opened the door, Natalie seems like a very nice woman and she has my support. Anaheim is a great city.

Tony,
I'd be surprised if there are many poor, jobless immigrants from Australia entering America.
The very generous welfare system in Australia sees asylum seekers and legal immigrants clamouring to move here.

At the 2000 U.S. Census, 60,965 Australian-born people were enumerated in the United States, of which 15,315 were citizens. Around 40% of Australian Americans had entered the United States before 1980. Since 2010, a Little Australia has emerged and is growing in Nolita, Manhattan, New York City. In 2016, the Australian Consulate-General estimated there were 44,000 Australians living in Los Angeles.

_______

So, we have about 50,000 Australians living here in Los Angeles. They need to know about Battle Mountain, Nevada, in case they need cheap land for $1,000 per acre, and they need to know where the jobs are, etc. Los Angeles has 70,000 homeless people and LA can be hard, and it is good if they know where to go if they need help. Though Mayor Bass is working hard to help the homeless in LA, and it appears the movie and television jobs are coming back to Hollywood.

And we have the Out Back Steak Houses here in California which serve Australian beef, etc.

There are many songs about the women of California with flowers in their hair. In the 1960s you can picture that they had women with flowers in their hair in the park in San Francisco. California is not like New York or Chicago, California is a lot softer, with better weather, and we have hippy Christian girls, etc.

It is a shame what has happened to San Francisco, we need to make San Francisco nice again. The Chinese can help in San Francisco, and the Italians, and others, and Homeboy Industries, and Boy's Town, etc, and Kiwanis International, etc, there are people who could help to make San Francisco nice again.

Meanwhile, Malibu is a good safe spot for new immigrants in California, along with Topanga, and Anaheim, and then for cheaper there is Bakersfield, and Modesto. Laguna Beach is a good place for Retirement. And Pepperdine is a good Christian college, and we have USC film school, and Chapman film school, etc. In the Antelope Valley then I recommend Quartz Hill. And then for cheap retirement and Golf there is California City.

Battle Mountain, Nevada, is cheap and safe, and they have a Golf course. There are jobs at the casino, I worked at the Colt as a cook for 2 years, and there are jobs working at the Gold mines, etc, and there are jobs for truck drivers, etc. You could also raise pigs and sell pork to San Francisco, etc. And they have Cattle Ranchers in Nevada, etc. And Vegas is a great exciting City, and Lake Tahoe and Reno are nice, and Carson City is nice, Nevada has some good locations. Lots of people from California are retiring to Nevada.

In the future I think Mexico will be a good place for Americans to retire to. Mexico will be nice in 20 years, the Mexicans are hard workers and they are determined to improve the situation in Mexico, and lots of money is being invested in Mexico.

Anyhow, for the 70,000 homeless people in Los Angeles, California, then we need for the California girls with flowers in their hair to save our homeless people, and also to save the people of San Francisco, and of Oakland, and of San Bernardino, etc. California needs tender loving care. We need Psychiatrists, and housing, and teachers, etc. And we need to build schools and libraries, etc.

Also, with the port in Baltimore being closed, then I bet a lot of stuff is coming up from the ports in New Orleans, which will help the people of New Orleans, and of note is that New Orleans is a good spot for the new immigrants from Colombia, and for other new immigrants, they call New Orleans "The Big Easy." And the coffee from Colombia is roasted in New Orleans and is sent all over the USA. I support improvements in New Orleans.

And MIT and Harvard and others can help in Baltimore, along with Kiwanis International, Homeboy Industries, Boy's Town, etc.

Vanderbilt is in Tennessee, and also I like Memphis.

If the Australian Immigrants need an idea for a cheap family business, they can sell hamburgers to the passers by on the roads, and if they are too poor to have a restaurant then they can start with a Food Truck or a Hot Dog Cart, etc. The Mexicans even sell corn from a cart, Elote, Mexican street corn. And Jewish Delis are very popular in the USA. If you have a connection for Australian beef then you can have a restaurant like the Out Back Steak Houses here in California where they sell beef steaks from Australia.

And the jobs are coming back to Hollywood for the beautiful young actresses and models and movie stars, the new "Star Wars" will be made in Hollywood and Universal has had some success recently with "Oppenheimer" and so maybe Hollywood will heat up, and also a lot of money is going to be invested into Hollywood Blvd, etc. And Disneyland is spending billions in Anaheim.

I am optimistic.

And we need to find allies in Russia who we can support as we work to send Putin to Guantanamo Bay, we have allies in the Arts in Russia, and in the Space Program, etc, we need to find allies in Russia who we can support.

On the issue of the masses of refugees from the Middle East, the refugees can live in the forest of Canada, in Victoria, where Kiwanis has a village. Canada is huge and they have a lot of wide open land where the refugees can live in peace, and they can work in the Lumber Industry, etc.

And we need to send vegetables, etc, to our poor areas and to our ghettos, and we need to work to improve our ghettos, etc, and we need to build libraries and coffee shops in the ghettos and we need to put a fresh coat of paint on the ghettos, etc.

Salute,

Tony V.

Bambu, read about Bakersfield, Kern County produces a lot of oil, and plus they produce crops of produce, and they have farmers, etc.  My Grandparents owned an Auction in Bakersfield and Buck Owens and Roy Clark and all of the Bakersfield Cowboys hung out at my family owned Auction. They loved Bakersfield. Then my Mother developed Valley Fever and so they had to move to the Desert for her health, but she had fond memories of Bakersfield. Bakersfield produces a lot of oil, and we need to buy our own locally produced oil instead of buying imported oil. And we have enough Natural Gas in Southern California to last for 3 thousand years or more.

I want to buy one of the Electric VW Buses. I support electric, but the gasoline will be around for a while, and the people in Bakersfield can keep pumping oil.

And Bakersfield is a good safe place for the Australian immigrants who want to live in California, it is cheap and there are a lot of jobs available.

Also, there is Modesto, which is where George Lucas was born. That is a good safe spot for Australian immigrants who want to live in California.

And on the issue of Defense, they keep a lot of stuff secret. And be sure to get the equipment to jam and crash enemy drones.

Salute,

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. I worked for a World War II Veteran who fought in Japan, he went to war with his Doberman, when he was drafted he was in school to become a Veterinarian and he had to drop out of school to join the Marine Corps after Pearl Harbor. The Marine Corps put him in charge of their Dog Kennels, and he trained dogs for the Marine Corps, etc, and then he went to war in Japan with his Doberman named Duke. This Veteran was a huge proponent of peace, he hated war, and he supported the United Nations. He thought that the United Nations was our biggest hope for world peace, and he had a picture of the United Nations on the wall of our office at the Dog Kennel that he owned and which I managed for 6 years. He ran that Kennel like the Marine Corps kennels, and for me it was like being in the Marines for 6 years, I had hard core discipline and I was never late, I got to work 1 hour early and I left one hour after hours. I gave that old man the very best effort that I could, even though he did not share the wealth, as a child of the Great Depression he was tight with the money. Anyhow, this old man loved the United Nations, and he saw it as our best hope for world peace.

At the same time that the United Nations was created then so too was the Central Intelligence Agency, we needed the CIA so that we could be well informed of world activities and so that we could deal with problems when they are small and before they become big problems. Then when people have the facts, they can make better decisions.

And the same is true with Journalism and which is why we have our 1st Amendment guaranteeing the right to freedom of the Press and free speech, so that we can deal with issues when they are small, and we can make better decisions when we have all of the facts.

One recent example of excellent Journalism was the case with Geraldo Rivera and the Mental Hospitals, Geraldo shined a light on what was happening in the Mental Hospitals and then people could deal with the issue. We have made a lot of progress on Mental Health Care because of Geraldo Rivera, and a free press.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and according to many our best hope for World Peace is the United Nations.

Happy Easter!

And here you go Bambu... A Virginia Class Submarine costs $3.4 billion each. Australia ordered 8 and paid $368 billion.

Plus we sent some B-2 Stealth Bombers to Australia, which are nuclear capable.

Australia is safe, no worries.

One of my favorite filmmakers was Elia Kazan, and he made a movie named "A Face in the Crowd" starring Andy Griffith. And in the movie Andy rises to the top, and then makes a fool of himself in public, and becomes a failure. So for me I see it as a lesson for actors, and for artists, if you become famous then they need to prepare for fame, and you need to know how to handle fame.

For me, I studied a lot of things, and one thing that I studied was Communication, and with Communication then there are many levels, there is you with another person, and then you with a small group, and then with a larger group, and then with mass communication, etc. All actors can benefit from studying mass communication, so they know how to communicate with the masses. And many stars hire experts in Communication to work as their Public Relations people, etc, I was friends with an old man who was a P.R. man for Frank Sinatra. Frank Sinatra had people on his pay-roll who were experts in Mass Communication so that he did not make a fool of himself like Andy Griffith in "A Face in the Crowd."

It takes a village to be a star like Frank Sinatra was, and like Elvis was, and like Shakira and Beyonce today, and Dolly Parton, it takes a village to be in show business.

Bambu, Harvard can help Baltimore, Massachusetts is only 400 miles from Maryland.

And the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is only 400 miles from Maryland.  https://www.mit.edu

America has some wonderful schools.

New York has some great schools too.

And Vanderbilt is in Tennessee.

The USA has some wonderful schools. We are blessed when it comes to the issue of higher education. We train the world leaders here from all around the world. And Muzi, the Daughter of the President of China came to Harvard to study.

With all of the crime at the Metro, and with current crime around the world, including women being punched in New York, then the woman in charge of Security at the Metrolink asked for better protection for the travelers, and they fired her for trying to better protect our travelers.

Her name is Gina Osborn, and she looks like Angie Dickinson from the television show "Police Woman," and she wants to improve the security for travelers on Metro. I think she should be the new Boss of a new Security Program focusing solely in providing security for travelers on Metro.
