7 GOP Gov states joining together and touting quick antigen tests as a game changer. China was using antigen tests since at least late March (maybe earlier). At that time results were available within 4 to 5 hours. Now antigen tests are much faster.
China almost totally relied on antigen tests, believing that getting quick results and being able to isolate positives and contact trace right away was a good trade off for the lower reliability of the tests. And you could always test twice anyone with standard CV-19 symptoms who tested negative. Or use a more accurate test.
The US has failed to realize, or at least act on the knowledge, that speed is of the essence. You want to do lockdowns before an outbreak takes hold. You want to not only test a lot but get quick results (waiting a week = viral spread). You want to start wearing masks back in March not waiting until July. Early action is the way to reduce transmission and contain the virus.
Then there's also the lack of national coordination. People and therefore the virus don't stop at state borders. The lack of a consistent message. Playing politics with the whole response. Among other mistakes.
