If we get tonight does it make up for the Chicago loss?

20-22

Need 23-17 finish (last 15 or so not so tough) for 43.  Likely 22-18 for playoff slot.

First things first, lets win this thing!  (Cmon Jeff THJ is the key)

Ok, now leave KP on the bench until late in the 4Q. Maybe he can play then when the other guys are tired.

C’mon Jeff, just put KP out of his misery. Not his day. Send him to the bench until Sunday

Marc Berman: Kind words on Knicks from defensive guru Tom Thibodeau, who never got a Phil dinner “Their defense is vastly improved, great length. Their rebounding is terrific. In my eyes, they have a very dangerous team.’’
– via Twitter NYPost_Berman

Merciless Begs To Differ...

Yeah vastly improved defense that his team carved up for 118 pts, 52% shooting and 33 ast. He's the enemy and blowing smoke up your ass while throwing a dig at Phil - ya big dummy.

10 of 13 lost and heading south fast, but we hung with them for 3 Qtrs for you Mr. Moral Victory.

Sorry Chip but their record speaks and this team is no better than last year right now.

Only caught the 2nd half.
then in the 4Q seemed every time a minor distraction (cat & pingpong ball; ants!) Mini would go on a minor run.

Frank didn't look good.  Not sharp with passes, the D often knew what he was going to do as he did it. Tim Jr with some chumpy D -- after one D miscue he came down and bombed a 3.
Jack seemed to be getting timely baskets to stop runs.

Towns just missed a trip-dub.  Wonder if he's ever had one(?)
Wiggins is athletic but needs to tighten up his game.
63% FT this year and missed 2 when Knix were making a late run.
But he's too casual and/or sloppy often.
Dieng was hitting midrangers when left open.  Very solid game from Dieng.  Tyus Jones got confidence when Teague was out.  starting to look like a solid backup PG.  Smart unathletic type.

Game slipped away in the 4Q.
Lotta O-boards for MinnyMousers.

3 out of the next 5 games are 3:PM starts.
lots of weak teams ahead, but a 7 game road tip.
NOPe up next.
Decent team.  Very .500-ish.  @ MSG.

Thibs has the Wolves as dialed in as his typical Bulls team when he coached there. They are impressive.

Despite the q4 collapse, we had some promising developments.

Jack is starting to pull his weight. Lee is staying his better self and playing pretty to very well. O’Quinn is being impactful. Even as he morphs into stretch Melo offensively, KP is still a defensive menace in the paint. Kanter is a load with a knack for buckets. Beasley isn’t quite tuned in, but is unquestionably impactful and can be harnessed better now Tim has returned to provide energy and scoring. Frank, Dougie, Baker, and Lance have all been falling off. Not enough minutes have been given to get a clear read on Dotson, Noah, and Willy or Sessions. These are the kind of things that emerge as you are remaking your roster and trying to compete at the same time.

If we can stay healthy, we’ll probably tighten up in a rotation based on

Kanter O’Quinn
KP Beasley
Lee Lance
Timmy Doug
Jack Frank

Then we can sprinkle in Burke when he gets here.

Don't know what anyone would expect.
A Road game against a better team.
Competing for 3Q's isn't bad.
Mini has a legit star, a talented young Big on par with KZ, and a fairly good bunch of role players.  Plus well-coached.

Fortunately Knix stacked up a pretty good record early so that this losing streak doesn't drop us out of contention.
INDy was down 22 after 1Q and came back to beat the LeBJ's by 2.
(Lance 16 & 11 & 4)
But they're a middling team.
Philly's up&down and depends on Embiid's health.
CHA trying to return from near death.

Those are the 3 teams Knix fighting for a playoff spot with.
I'd guess Knix finish 10th, maybe 9th, but a definite shot at the playoffs.

This year is all about KZ taking the next step, Frank developing, HornyJeff getting his system in place, seeing which role players are keepers, etc. Playoff experience would be nice for the pups.  But a good draft pick isn't a bad consolation prize.  Maybe my expectations were just low, but I'm enjoying this season.

Hopefully Tim Jr can take some pressure off KZ.  Be nice to go on the Road trip with a W over NOPe.

By this measure, KZ is the 2nd best Interior Defender this year and 3rd overall defender.
Behind Emdiib on the interior, with Dray and Brow Davis slightly ahead overall.  As of Jan 1
http://www.basketballanalyticsbook.com/2018/01/01/draymond-has-been-the-nbas-best-defender/

The BAD:
JEarl #192 out of . . . 192 qualified.
Craw #190.
Shroeder 185
Jack 182
McDermatitis 176
Crowder 174  (I've been saying Crowd looks off, fouls a lot too)

Courtly 160 (fine on perimeter, terrible inside)
Tim Jr 116 -- fine perimeter weak inside)
Melo surprisingly at 93
Kanter 74 (strong inside)

I haven't checked into this measurement much.
Seems if all they're doing is adding perimeter and interior defensive numbers for the total rating, that's not too helpful.  You'd need to weight it for the number of in/out plays.  And I'm not sure how they count defending short midrange shots, etc,

I think Lue's job might be jeopardy.

Was thinking the same. They've switched horses mid-season before.

Happy for KP

Now if he and Kyle can disallow a 20-year old rook from draining 6 open threes on us I'd be even happier.  Markkanen made them look absolutely sick (and no, it wasnt Kanter, despite the dunk)

Speaking of Enes, how much of the 4th quarter did he play last night?  Appalling pattern.

For the old-farts here, a little NBA history from Bob Ryan (best hoops scribe ever) in today's Globe

three Knick-nuggets in there, all of which I've touched on in Elba, one very recently, two you'll like, the other maybe not so much.

KZ has really become a defensive force.
A great leap from last year when he was a good help defender.  There were a number of plays in the MIN game where Butler or Teague had KZ switched on them on the perimeter and ended up meekly passing.
KZ had a great NOV offensively, but has come down.
Really he's become a complete player*, a real force on both ends, a likely all-star, etc.

* he could board better, and his passing has been limited -- but there's always more to work on ...

KAT really went to town in the 2nd half.  Started dominating, scoring, passing, boarding.  Loved that one where he was in the mid-post and flipped the ball over his head to a cutting Teague for a layup.

Taj had a strong game and played KZ well.

Shams Charania: Sources: The New York Knicks and guard Trey Burke of G League affiliate Westchester have agreed on a deal for the remainder of the season.– via Twitter ShamsCharania

We shall see.

Meanwhile, Sessions has been waived.

No trades on the horizon.

And so we go, hi-ho hi-ho...
