NBA Radio guys effusive in their praise for Garland today

I recall reading positive opinions on him early in his career as he struggled with health and stats.

They call Garland the true building block - and a big reason Cavs have yet to sign Sexton.

They have similar games.
Garland the better ballhandler and shot creator.  More of a genuine PG.
Both ball dominant, bad small defenders, not big set up offense guys.

Halleluka!
Luka bombs in a game winning step back fade away 3.  First guy to greet him is KZ, and Luka runs right past him celebrating on his own ...

ATL collapsed in the 4Q v. PHX.
Bogdanovich made mistakes down the stretch.  Missed a driving layup. Then down 3 with 12 secs left, jacked a very quick airball 3, as though he thought there was 2 secs left.  A losing play. Trae & Collins had big games.  Huerter finally came alive.  But a good defensive team gave up 35 4Q points. Outscored 16 in 4Q, lost by 4.  Non good.

Hunter with a bad game.  Missed a late 3, fouled DevBook for no reason circa 80 secs left. 1-9 FG = 2 points.
LoUW has replaced Delon (I thought he was going to be a key addition) and hasn't been able to get much going.
ATL not getting it done.  Dropped to 4-6

We shall see soon enough.  I want to see if I notice a separation in effectiveness with the duo.  And if there is any wisdom whatsoever in keeping them together

Jar Allen = East Player of the Week.  Knix did their part.

TOR kept letting Tatum drive in, collapsing the D, and leaving the right corner open.  Over and over.  Not making adjustments.  Tatum fantastic without Jaylen.

Nice game from Josh Rich (in the vacated Fournier role).  Scoring timely buckets. Defending well.  Real active and solid all game.  I was big on Josh Rich, thought there was some Eddie Jones in him.  But he's been kicking around and just doing okay in his stops.  Josh Rich should see extended minutes with Jaylen out a bit.

With Hield starting and tyH out, SacKings gave up 136 to SAS, including 30+ each quarter.
The old Hield-Fox combo at work ...

Zak Low keeps referring to Durant as an all-time Top 10 player.
Joining the GSW all-stars certainly burnished KD's rep.  But that's 3 years of glory, when Durant finally started playing hard on D.

I still recall his OKC days when he was anti-clutch and would frequently turn the ball over or take rushed shots in crunch time.  Back when he used to play indifferent D.  First 5 seasons for Sonic-Thunder, KD had more turnovers than assists each year.

Yeah he's having a stellar season (12 games so far).  Very impressive after an Achilles tear.
Always been a terrific scorer.  Since GSW, played just 35 games last year, after missing the year before.

In no particular order:
Six Top 10 locks.
MJ, LeBJ, Magic
Wilt, Kareem, Russ

Then:
Hakeem
Duncan
Dr. J (including ABA, Doc scored over 30K points, won MVP's, dominated the league)
Bird

11-20
Shaq
Oscar Robertson
Jerry West
Kobe
Kevin Garnett

Barkley
Karl Malone
Moses Malone
Dirk
Havlicek

21. Kevin Durant
The careers of most/all of them stack up quite well alongside KD.
Without the titles and terrific 2-way play after joining the GSW champions/all-stars, Durant is a taller George Gervin.  Okay, I'm being a bit flip, but I don't see Durant in or even near the Top 10 debate.  Significant flaws in the first half of his career.

Kevin Durant was GREAT for the Thunder

That he evolved even further - a thumbs up

IMPOSSIBLE for me to pick a top ten.

------

Meanwhile, today's quiz -

TWENTY players in history have had a 30-30 (pts-reb) game.  Happened roughly 110 times in NBA history

Wilt Chamberlain had 86 of them - heh

So, how many of the other 19 can you name

And who were the last 2

Hints - last player is a forum whipping boy who did the feat in 2018
Second to last did it vs the Knicks - and is currently also not viewed highly here
Each is a current NBA guy, mostly off the bench.

At least 3 former Knickerbockers on the list.

Russell
Bob Pettit
Nate Thurmond
Walt Bellamy
(Thurmond and Bells often put up HUGE #'s, back in the 60's guards when smaller and didn't rebound much)

Jerry Lucas
Dave the Butcher

Willis
Elgin

Moses Malone
Kareem
Shaq
Truck Robinson

Drummond
Dwight

DWIGHT is the 2018 player - had 32 and 30

DeBuscherre and Len Robinsin I believe are incorrect.  Drummond as well.  O'Neal - not sure

Nice first run at it.

wanted to add:
Gus Johnson
&
Elvin Hayes
(Wes Unseld fully capable too, but I'll go with Elvin who scored a lot and boarded well. Probably averaged near a 20 & 10 for his career.  Edit: 21 & 12.5.  No one seems to remember the Big E much, but he was a tough mofo.  As a 23 year old rook, Elvin averaged 28 & 17.  Followed that up the next two years with nearly identical numbers.  Oddly, Hayes was a career 67% FT).

Lanier and Artis Gilmore were certainly capable of throwing chumps aside.  Not sure if they ever devastated to the tune of 30-30.

And I'll add in Bob McAdoo.  He could score 30 in his sleep, but was also a top bounder.  Though 30 rebounds is asking a lot of anybody.

Elgin, Truck and Drummond were my kind of wild guesses.

Oh, swap out Bulldog Drummond and replace with Boogie Cousins.
Is Cousin Boogie in the NBA this year?

Btw, Dwight not far from 20K points.
I figure he'll be an HoFer.
Even if his latter day career took some awkward turns.
He's proving himself as a useful 2n unit boarder and instigator.

We have gotten on him enough, so...

good to see a breakout game  of sorts for Killian Hayes

4-7, 3-4, 2-2

13 pts 10 assists 7 boards playing mostly WITH Cunningham.
