Caught 2nd half of GSW v. LAL

Jordan Poole looks good.  Real good.
#14 pick Moses Moody can play.  Confident.  Just 19.
GSW has options until Klay returns.  And guys who can help keep his minutes down.

Horton_Tucker makes things happen.  Reckless and proud of it.
Austin Reaves makes 3's.  Some deflections too.
Dwight killed smallball GSW on lobs and putbacks, cutting a 20 point lead to 3.

Melo and Rustbrook both went 1-7 FG in 1st half.  Russ added 6 turns.

Kalenna Azubuike one of the announcers.  I was a big fan, but he blew out his knee on a no-contact play, and never could make it back.  Well-spoken, with a style somewhat reminiscent of Richard Jefferson but a bit less silly/goofy.

And playinga  9 man rotation - Thompson the only big off the bench

I like Sac, as I have said.  Minutes for Davion - check.  Fox filling it - check.  Big game from H Barnes - can he take the next step?  And HOLMES was a beast.

Bagley likely will be dealt in time for someone.

BY THE WAY - FIOS customers and maybe some others - as usual NBA Game Pass is FREE the first week.  Got to see some good action last night, including the young Magic (Wagners looked promising) and OKC (Giddy looked scared)

Give Luke credit for putting Hield and Bagley on the bench.
Their defense was historically bad last season.
Teams shot nearly 49% FG v. Sacto (48.8%).
Gotta shake things up.
Not sure starting MoHark is the answer.  But he's feisty.
Sends a message that defense is the focus.
Fox gained weight/muscle.

Nets leading the league in fat guys.
Milsap is chubby.  LMA always flabby.
Joe Harris chunky.  Harden always chunky, but that's kind of a strength for him.
A well-rounded team ./..

Didnt see it, but Raps shot 31% FG v. Wiz.
Had a 37 point 1st half.  Finished with 83.
Down 20 at the half.

Both team shot around 20% on 3's, a combined 12-61.
Yikes

So at least 41 of the original top 50 of the NBA first 50 years had made the all time updated top 75

Will any be lopped off - and who?

Listening to the sharpest 93 year old imaginable Bob Cousy

Bob musing that he went from the top of his sport as MVP down to Number 33 and now just barely hanging on the list

Good stuff with Kamla and Mahorn

Caught 2/3rds of the ATL-DAL game on replay.
Hawks just looked sharp.

Collins was in form, shooting over KZ, ooping to Capela, nailing 3's.  Solid D.  looked in mid-season condition.
Capela did his thing.
Bogdan started slow/sloppy, then nailed a pair of 1Q 3's.
DeAndre Hunt gave Luka trouble, including blocking an outside J.
Missed a pair of early corner 3's, then made some midrange shots 2Q.  Smooth.
Cam Reddish was all over the place.  20 points in 21 mins.  Still can get a little wild, but looks like things have slowed down for him, and made some slick plays.  Dynamic.

Jalen Johnson went 2-3 on treys in 4 mins, but I didn't see his presumably garbage time cameo.

ATL had real nice ball movement.  31 assists on 45 made FG.
ATL had a 34-24 lead without Trae scoring.  Hawks had 39 before Trae popped in a 3.
Fun team to watch.  Love the continuity.  And the D looked good.

For DAL, KZ had a good 1Q.  Popped a 3, blocked a shot.  Then faded.  Needs more intensity.
Luka was off.  No one shot well, except Brunson burner.  Looks like another scrappy DAL team looking for their 2nd scoring option.
Funky-Smith twerent scoring.  Maybe we'll see RegBullox steal a starting spot ...

Laker dysfunction.
I checked out when Lakes were down 30.
Dwight annoyed AD.
Westbrook, Dwight, Rondo -- combustible.  LeBJ, Melo high maintenance.  AD fragile.
Why does Rustbrook shoot 3's?
Just a lot of new pieces to fit together.
Lakes looked ugly pre-season.
Might not see a good Laker team until after the AS game.

Kings put up a good fight v. Utah.
Dav Mitchell was giving Donovan Mitch fits.  His 1-8 FG didn't help, but whoa was he in Donovan's jersey.  Sure made him work for everything.

KIngs D was solid.  But shot just 22% on 3's.  Remove Hield 6-15 and Sacto was just 2-21 on 3's.  T Davis started with MoHark out with a hip dinger.  Holmes got in foul trouble, so Alex Len played half the game, most minutes of any Big.  Bags just 10 mins; Tristan just 4.  I like Luke trying out different ish.  Not like Kings are competing for a title this year.  Figure out the roster -- combos, pairings, O/D balance.  For now, they are playing small and trying to have a 3rd defender in the starting lineup to balance out Fox (and to some degree Holmes).

SACKs actually playing D this year.  Held UTA to 46 in the first half.  Still love watching TyH.  Does lots of nice little things.  Switching, playing passing lanes, cutting off drives.

Knix might've tagged 2 L's on BOS, as the Celts had nothing left for G2 v. TOR.
Celts with 25 Turnovers.  Guess that's why most teams deploy a PG.
Juancho had 3 turns in just 4 mins.  Hard to do.

Scottie Barnes with 25 & 13 in a start with Siakim out.
I'd take him over Suggs any day of the week.  For some reason, Raps got criticized for that bit of drafting.  Barnes looks like a future all-star.

With Garland out, Cavs went Big.
Jar Allen-Mobley-Markkanen w/ Sexton/Rubio.
Ripped off a 21-0 run to start the 3Q and beat the Hawks.
Mobley was Big; Love played well.

Bad loss for ATL.  With a brutal upcoming schedule.
DET at Home.  Followed by 8 of the next 10 on the Road:
4 of 5 on the Road, a Home game v. UTA on the back end of a Road-Home BKY-UTA B2B.
Then right back out for a 4 game West Coast swing v. heavy hitters:  @PHX-@GS-@UTA-@DEN
Then when they get back from the West, 1st game back home is v. MIL.

Really coulda used to pocket another W v. CLE.
Hate to say G3 v. DET is must win for ATL.  But I'd hate to be 1-2 and facing that slate of games.

Don't be surprised to see ATL sub-.500 mid November.
Things get a bit easier later in the month with a 5 game homestand (kicked off with the Bucks tilt).  We see Hawks again Nov 28 in ATL, the back end of a Road-Home B2B for them.  They play a very busy 15 games in November.  They'll be glad of their depth and young legs.
