Only 4 NBAers have won both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year award in their career.
Name that quartet.

Bonus: Which two did it in the same season?

Helpful Hint: DPOY only dates back to the early 80's.

Jordan
Olajuwon
David Robinson?
Kevin Garnett?

Indeed.  Those be the fellers.

Jordan and Olajuwon did it in the same season.

Quite a feat to win an MVP award (mostly given for offending) and winning a DPOY award in a career.

People don't often talk about it, but MJ was a terrific defender his whole career.

Whereas a guy like LeBJ was pretty chumpy on D his first 3 years and mostly of coasts the last two.  Though admittedly was a defensive force for a decade in between that.  But during that 9 or 10 year stretch, LBJ could've won a DPOY.

Durant didn't play adequate D until he got to GS.

I like 2-way players.
Do the Knix have any?
Morris I guess.
Barrett hopefully.

I was flipping to the Nets replay some while watching the replayed Knix.

Make sure to catch Kyrie's game winning attempt.  Down 1, 8 secs, Kyrie isolates does a spin dribble, falls down, gets up and keeps his dribble and misses and off-balance FT line J.  Got a pretty good look, after some craziness.   One Nets announcer was laughing after Kyrie's tumble.

With 1 min left in OT, Wiggins made two nice baskets to give MINNy the lead.  That after playing a very blah game.  Was nice to see him Wig out when it mattered.

There was a play with around 40 secs left where Kyrie drove past laVert and Towns came over on help and expertly contested without fouling, causing Kyrie to double clutch and shoot his layup attempt into the underside of the rim.  Ans I think KAT had 5 fouls for that.  And on another late drive, Kyrie had nowhere to go and Towns swatted his pass/shot/whatever out of bounds.  I didn't see much of the game, but if Towns starts playing good defense, he's a genuine all-star and Top 10 player.

Nets Trivia

Name the 5 players who scored 50 or more points as a Netizen.

1st game standouts:

Danny Green
Siakim
van Vleet
Kennard
RJB
Brogdon 22 & 11 (made 10-11 FT's)

INDy played some guy Edmond Summers 22 mins (for a whopping -23), as their bench got roughed up by DET.
Neither team has a good bench and it will hurt both of them.  Kennard came up big, DRose scored well.  Kennard will probably start after a while.  or maybe just play big bench flamethrower minutes,

Are you counting ABA?

Rick Barry, Dr. J.  Kyrie.  Did Bernard ever do that?  Marbury?

Not ABA.
Just NBA.

And I should have made it more clear.
5 Nets scored 50 or more before Kyrie joined them to make a half dozen.

Marbury is one.
2.
3.
4.
5.

I thought the names were pretty interesting.

Okay, some hints:

one guy has a strong Knick connection

another was a NET both ABA & NBA

the third guy you won't guess even if I give you his initials . . .

Ah.  Was thinking John Williamson (ABA and NBA)

I remember Deron Williams having a huge game once.
