Doc Rivers was not idle for very long!

Best of luck to him and the 76ers.

Drivers in philly should watch out for constant traffic and lane closures.

Sen Nunn looked fine to me.
Knows how to use his body on drives.
Blocked AD near the rim.
Had a good game.
Got called for two fouls boxing out fouls, when both plays looked fine. First there was minimal contact on Caruso, 2nd he had a textbook block out of a guy trying to crash the boards.

Duncan Rob and Herro played some soft D.
And Olynyk had trouble boxing out properly.
Lakes got too many easy ops.
I probably would have gone with more My Leonard, but Olynyk was scoring well.

HISTORIC game for Butler.

But let's not overlook Herro (17-3-2) and  - as was mentioned by someone already - Bank's other missing white guy Olynyk (17-7-1 after 24-9-2 in Game 2).

kid you're mistaken, and once again you seem to have a problem with accurately reporting #s.

I just checked, I'm not missing any white guys.

Maybe the best comparison to Jimmy Butler is  ... Iguodala in his Philly days, when he was in his 20's.  As with Butler, Iggy was an elite defender with an all-around game, not a natural scorer, but crafty enough to get points and develop his offensive game.
Neither wanted to shoot 3's, both got lots of steals and deflections.

In 8 seasons in Philly, Iggy: 15.3 Pts / 5.8 boards / 4.9 assists.
That's 15 / 6 / 5 while playing elite defense
Had 3 seasons of 18+ points.

My other comparison would be Paul Pierce.  Another guy who took his time on offense, played at his own pace and was tough to stop.  Also clutch.
Now Butler and Iggy are teammates.

Question: Should Iggy make the HoF?
Only 1 all-star appearance (where he went 6-7 FG).
But LeBJ was a guaranteed East SF starter, and mostly the other SF slot went to Pierce (10 AS games), with Deng and Granger, like Iggy, getting one apiece.

But Iguodala was the 2015 Finals MVP.
Made all-defense 1st team.  Another 2nd team.
Was the best player on his team a number of years.
Will finish with roughly 6K boards and 5K assists, but under 15K points.

Much of his candidacy will depend on those 3 titles with GS, where he was a key member of the GSW dynasty, and usually finished games there as part of their death lineup, which switched a ton.
Iggy has now been in 6 straight Finals, frequently charged with guarding LBJ in those.  (and KD, Kawhi, Harden in the playoffs).

I'm inclined to call it an HoF career.
So LeBronco and Pierce -- two clear HoFers were better?
Iggy made his mark.

Edit: here's an article on that very topic:
https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/nba-insider-tom-haberstroh/andre-iguodala-no-stats-hall-famer
They point out Iggy's +/- in the 5 Finals.  And his career Win Shares.

When Iggy was on GSW I use to enjoy checking out the box score and seeing Iggy with maybe 0 points, but other stats and high + for the game.

In the 5 GSW Finals, Iggy has the best +/- of any Warrior.
And the best Finals +/- since 1997 (when it was first tracked of anyone except Ginobili -- another guy who largely came off the bench, was a winner, and deserves to be HoF despite less than gaudy stats.

And how about Rondo?
Might win another title this year.
4x AS.
All-D 4x (two 1st; two 2nd team)
3x led the League in Assists.
Once led in Steals.
15th all-time in Assists (could make it to 13th before he's done).

Famous for upping his game in the playoffs and for big games (national TV).
Also, got booted from DAL and then passed around among poor teams for a few years.

I'd probably induct him into the Hall of Very Good, but not the HoF.

Of course Rajon is still just 34 years old.  Has 3 years left, I'd guess - minimally

Seems like a Thibs type.

Playoff Rondo
« Reply #700 on: October 07, 2020, 01:42:05 PM »

Will turn 35 early next year.

If Rondo's final years go well with the Lakers, I could see him as HoF.

Like Iggy, another interesting case of a defender and big playoff contributor, but not much of a scorer.  I always think the HoF should reward stellar D (ie Ben Wallace, etc) instead of just points (and often by guys who played weak D).

Good Game 5.

LeBJ kept Lakes in it with his 3's.  And then his drives.
Guy's a workhorse.

Nunn outplayed Rondo, providing MIA a boost.
Even one play Nunn zipped past Rondo for an O-board and layup.

Bam was not 80% and had a lot of trouble finishing around the rim.
Lots of layups, tip-ins, potential o-boards MIA failed to convert.
Could have blown open the game.

Wonder how Bam and Davis will be for G6.
Doubt Drgaic will play, but even 10-15 minutes of grit from Goran could be key.

Maybe he limps out for G7, unexpectedly starts, and hits the first two baskets ...
