NBPA Approves the above plan.  Lakers and Heat can complain all they want.  The delete 8 are also at a disadvantage.  Gotta cater to the greater.

So now its...

Nov 18 Draft
Nov 20 Free Agency
Dec 01 Training Camp
Dec 22 Season start
72 games
Finals in June

Wonder how often players will be tested.
They will be hitting bars and clubs where those are open.
Some will pick up the virus, and you really want to avoid them spreading it to a whole team and knocking a team out of play for a week or two (or three as players get it at different times and for different lengths).

Another casualty of the early 80's NBA Cocaine Binge:
6'2" G Fast Eddie Johnson just died in prison, serving a life sentence for molesting an 8 year old girl.  Had drug and other arrests prior to that.

* Important*
Not to be confused with the other Eddie Johnson who was much taller, had a longer career, also much with ATL, and always seemed like a good guy.

Pat Williams, who was then general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers, stated: "Eddie became a time bomb every summer."

I really don't remember him, though he was a two time all-star.

Edward Lee Johnson Jr. (February 24, 1955 – October 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player. He played 10 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) – mainly as a member of the Atlanta Hawks – from 1977 to 1987. Johnson was a two-time NBA-All-Star with the Hawks in 1980 and 1981, and earned two nominations to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1979 and 1980.

Quote
Johnson battled a cocaine addiction throughout his career. After several suspensions, he finally checked himself into rehab in 1986. After he failed to follow through on mandatory counseling, the NBA suspended him in 1987.[1]

Johnson averaged 15.1 points per game in 675 games played during his 10-year NBA career.[

Seems he had mental issues (which the drug abuse likely exacerbated):
Quote
Johnson was diagnosed with manic depression by psychiatrists in the Cobb County facility; he doubted the accuracy of the diagnosis. He was prescribed with lithium tablets that he stopped taking during the 1980–81 NBA season without the knowledge of the Hawks team. Johnson believed that he no longer needed the medication and that it contributed to his tiredness during games.

The Hawks became aware of the resumption of Johnson's erratic behavior in July 1981 and persuaded him to submit to a local hospital. Johnson showed up at the Hawks' training camp in October directly from the hospital and became increasingly disruptive as he rebuked teammates, left the floor to play with a child in the stands, and jumped rope on the sidelines while oblivious to his surroundings during practice sessions. After being so alarmed by his actions, Atlanta Hawks President Michael Gearon and General Manager Stan Kasten contacted Johnson's psychiatrist, who signed a commitment order to have Johnson placed in Grady Memorial Hospital. Johnson was picked up by police before a planned practice session and taken to Grady. Johnson was taken off the Hawks' suspended list on November 21, 1981.

Johnson's life continued to spiral out of control following his banishment from the NBA. He was arrested and convicted for a litany of crimes over the years, including burglary, robbery, assault on a police officer, and shoplifting. He admitted that he had frequent drug problems which had initially cost him his career.

Johnson's rap sheet numbered about 100 arrests and five stints in and out of the Florida prison system when in 2006, he was arrested for burglary and sexual battery and molestation of an 8-year-old girl, while awaiting trial on charges of raping another woman.

Sad tale.  Died at 65 in jail.
Spent the last dozen years imprisoned.
Plus other jail stints in the two decades after his playing career and before his final strike.

It's a serious concern.  When teams travel, they have around two dozen players and coaches, plus another likely 20-30 support staff.  50+ people you need to keep away from the virus.

If/when anyone gets it, you need to identify that as soon as possible, so they don't spread it to others in the close quarters of the NBA workplace. So frequent testing will be needed to identify pre- and a-symptomatic cases.  I'm sure the NBA and player's union are looking into this carefully, as it has the potential to upend the season.

If you're not interested in the issue, there's no need to respond.  No one needs to hear that you don't care.

It is in the democratic platform, is it not -

The mental issues cause the drug use - not the other way around.  i have a family member who is exhibit A (and clean, thankfully)

He was mentally ill
The mental issues cause the drug use - not the other way around.

I think the two compound and negatively influence each other, but I don't think  directional causation is necessarily implicated.

A sad case.

Hopefully players these days have more access to psychologists and mental health professionals to guide them and keep them on a good path.  The stigma seems to be wearing off, with players such as Love, Paul George and others more willing to discuss their mental health publicly.  Royce White was an interesting case that got some of the convo rolling and uncovered the lack of mental health assistance and infrastructure.

Kelly Loeffler, in one of the two Jan 5 GA runoff senate elections, is the co-owner of the Atlanta WNBA team.  She's 5'9" and played ball in college.  Supposedly she's hands on and would go to games and even confer with coach Michael Cooper during halftime.

She's also possibly the richest current US senator, having married the CEO of a financial firm after working there for two years.  Need to defeat her and Perdue so Biden can have a Democratic Senate to get things done and fix the country.

Must be why both races are headed to a run-off instead of the Dems winning outright.

As has been pointed out elsewhere, if the Dems were rigging the election, they did one of the worst jobs, ever!

Wiseman goes to a perfect situation for him.
If Klay has two legs to stand on.

The other sweet lotto fit is Vassal to SAS.

Pa Williams #4.  I always doubt these workout wonders.
Late risers are pretty hit or miss (Amare/Shai v Johnny Flynn types)

Okongwu a bit of an odd fit for ATL, which is why many had him dropping to 8-10.
I'm Big on OK.  But ATL now has a terrific frontcourt with Collins-Capela and Okongwu.  I thought they'd go with Halliburton.  They just need one of their wings to blossom _Reddish, Hunter, Huerter

I thought DET would take Hayes -- what they needed.  But lot of risk with him.

Avdija at #9 for Wiz looks nice.

Not sure why PHX took a C - Smith at #10.
With Vassell, Haliburton and Nesmith on board.
Could/should have added a wing shooter.
Especially since they just moved Uber-Killer.

Kira Lewis on NOPe is intriguing.
Saddiqw Bey dropped.
Nesmith should fit well on BOS

Rozier is a pretty perfect backcourt mate for Ball.

A lot of this draft made a lot of sense.

I think Detroit has had the most radical facelift so far.
