A lot of this draft made a lot of sense.

I think Detroit has had the most radical facelift so far.

The trade leaves the Pistons with three first-round rookies:
Bey, Killian Hayes and Isaiah Stewart.

The Nets flipped #18 pick (dropper) Saddiq Bey for Shamet.
Understandable they want a shooter and a player who can contribute now.
Not sure how much time Shamet gets if they keep all of Dimwitty/LaVertical/Joe Harried.  Maybe signals another move (or losing Harris).
Clips flipped Shamet for Kennard.

Nice move for DET.
Get a younger, cheaper (Kennard will come off the rook scale soon), bigger player in Saddiq.

One thing I thought interesting.
In a number of write-ups on potential 1st rounders, I'd see mention that a freshman had a poor lone college season, and yet he's still projected for the 1st round.  Analysts don't even bother to say a guy should return for another year anymore.

Here's one post-draft example:
Quote
28. Minnesota Timberwolves (via LAL): PF Jaden McDaniels, Washington

This is a decent spot for him, but there are too many polished players still available for him to be the best pick. He looks the part. He has the size, athleticism and skill. He just did nothing in his one college season. Maybe you can get excited about his potential and his high school production, but he simply disappeared last year.

Guy supposedly stunk in his lone college season, and yet gets a guaranteed NBA contract.  What's that, at least $5M coming his way?  I need to look up the rook payscale.

On the other end of the spectrum, there was Gonzaga's Tillie who was said to be a good NBA prospect despite "being injured all 4 years" of college.
He went undrafted.

Careful.....

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jaden-mcdaniels-1.html

Say he didnt shoot well or that his team didnt win a lot.

"Stunk" is just a stupid assessment for you to pass forward

According to that writer:
"He just did nothing in his one college season ... he simply disappeared last year."

That writer gave a pretty harsh assessment which I paraphrased.
Maybe it's "stunk compared to expectations."
Or, he along with his team stunk.
While his shooting was stinky.
And his turnovers particularly acrid.

Looking over team moves and makeovers, a few stand out:

ATL
Okongwu, Gallinari, Rajon Rondo, Kris Dunn
If their Bogdan x 2 offer wins out than they've hit a home run.
Lost: Teague, Deadman, Bembry -- nothing much

LAKES
Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Matthews, Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol
Upgrade and get rid of more complicated personalities in Rondo and Dwight.
Much cheaper Matthews for Danny Green

DAL
Draft: Josh Green (18th overall), Tyrell Terry (31st overall), Tyler Bey (36th overall)
Trade: Josh Richardson (Philadelphia 76ers), James Johnson
Lost: Seth Curry

I don't know Josh Green, but those are two intriguing 2nd rounders.
I'm a Josh Rich fan, but he's not the Eddie Jones I had been projecting.  A nice two-way player, but low-key.  Johnson gives them some toughness.
They wanted to improve their D and Rich and Johnson help.

GSW
Added James Wiseman, Kelly Oubre, Brad Wanamaker
Nice fill-ins if Klay can still make hay.

Also took a flyer on Nico Mannion (48th overall) and added Bazemore.
Lost McGhee, Quinn Cook

Clips
Basically swapped Ibaka and Kennard for Montrezl and Shamet.
Nice recovery, I'd call that an upgrade.
They panicked a bit and overpaid MaMo, but that's okay for now.

PHI
Dwight and + vet shooters -- Seth Curry & Danny Green
excised Horford

PHX
Chris Paul, Crowder + draftee Jalen Smith
Lost Uber-Killer, Rubio, Tank, Baynes

POR
Covington + Kanter + Giles on a 1 year min deal

Knix, Memf, Magic, IND all sat this off-season out.
Actually Knicks made moves, but just another reshuffle like last year.

Kudos to Google Chrome.
My computer crashed before I finished that longish post, and I had to unplug my frozen machine, restart the whole system, and when I reopened and restored Chrome, there was my draft post.  I knew browsers had become much better at saving and not losing info, but I didn't expect to get a draft post after a total crash.  Very nice.

Not sure why Ainge didn't want Myles Turner who seems to be the closest thing to an Al Horford that's out there.  Plus he'd have trade value.  I'd rather My Turn at $18M then Tristan at $9M.  Part of my knock on Turner is he doesn't shoot enough, which wouldn't be an issue on BOS.
This captures my thoughts:

Gordon Hayward, Myles Turner and the Celtics' failed sign-and-trade that could end up being a big mistake

And an appreciation and strong endorsement of Bogdan x 2 from Giannis and Popovich

The guy has game and smarts.
Really would have been a terrific fit in MIL.
Would balance the ballhandling so JRue can do his combo thing and Giannis could control the ball but not overly so.  And an excellent sniper.

ATL is a pretty good spot for him, but a lot of young guys and a lot of new faces to work into the mix.

How many of these draftees can you recognize?

I can spot Manion, Wise Man, and Obi Toppings (who looks like he grew 3 inches the night before).

Who is the little guy dressed as an leprechaun (green plaid)?
It's so, uh, vibrant that you hardly notice the guy next to him is where a red plaid suit.

Is that Edwards who didn't bother with a suit jacket and just wore a letter-man style jacket?

Who's the Chris Webber looking dude in the back wearing a lime green suit?
And who's that next to him (Okongwu?) wearing a hat?

Bright blue suit, three to the left of The Commish?
Is that Vassell in the red double breasted jacket next to ObiT?

Really don't like the skinny pants -- hope this fashion fades away soon.
I think my favorite ensemble here is the blood red jacket far left front row.
Runner up: the guy with the Clyde jacket and big feet one to the right of the skinny Eurofella

Iman Quikley far left, bookend with Toppin on the far right
Cole Anthony next to Silver
LeMelo behind them
Edwards next to Cole

Onyeka Okongwu is 4th in from the left
Leprechaun is Boston draftee Aaron Nesmith
I believe that's Avidja 4th in from the right
I believe Isiaih Stewart next to him on one side and Wiseman next to him on the other side
I think Patrick Williams is to the other side on Wiseman
The guy in the hat next to him.... no clue.

Zeke Nnaji is the Jordan Hill looking guy smiling in the back row under the letter T in Draft.

They've been in-style for at least 10 years.

Green plaid is the Celtics draftee - I recall their saying on the telecast that he may have had advance knowledge.

Re:  Bogdan - lets face it - HE got screwed by thew MIL deal leaking.  Not much talk of that.

Does BB land in a spot where he may score more, play more?  And not have to live near...cough...Milwaukee?  Sure.  But no EC Finals, NBA Finals any time soon.

Yeah, but I didn't need to buy new pants until the last 3 years ...

Thanks for the pic help.
I should have recognized a few more (Avdija and LaMelo certainly).

Kam seems to have gone right.
Can anyone go left and work that side?

I'm still interested in bright blue suit front row left, and lime green suit back ro slightly to the right...
