Luke Kennard shoots .400 from 3, .863 from line
Shooting 0% this year ...
(I kiid)
Kennard has a nice offensive game -- solid passing and ballhandling to go with his shooting. I get that.
Teams also go at him some on D where he's slow-footed.
At that coin, he needs to stay healthy and perform in the playoffs (and try to hold his own on D).
I guess Luke's extension doesn't kick in til next year, but
vet min Batum ($2.5M) is starting and soon-to-be $18M Canard comes off the bench. I'm not sure why Clips didn't just
play Kennard at his $5.3M this year and let him become a FA next year, after having the info on well he played in LAC and how healthy he was.
Were they really afraid that someone would swoop in and offer Kennard more than this $16M gamble extension? It might work out fine, but I would have taken the risk next year, after seeing Luke as a Clip and how he performed in the playoffs. Even if he does real well, worst case you have to up him to maybe $18M. I'd have played it safe.
Reportedly Montrezl was pissed that CLips didn't want to pay him, but paid Kennard instead.
Batum and Reg Jax as vet min pickups = terrific and should pay real dividends.
Ty Lue likes to go 10 deep. Pat Pat at $3M is mighty nice too, even if he is a creampuff defender.
