Anyone have a clue what the Nets are up to?

They look like a scrappy bad team.

I guess they picked up a few picks here and there.

Nets v. Pistons
Both teams started off 0-5 FG.
It was 2-1 after 3 minutes.

Tangelo 1-7 in the 1Q.
Looks disinterested.

DET has looked bad both games I saw them.
Blake running into double teams and losing the ball.
Pachulia leading DET in scoring after 1Q.

The NETS should move to Seattle.

That's harsh.
Seattleans can just drive to Portland for a game.
Where can Brooklynites go?

Nets gave up a winnable game v. Rockettes.
BKY had been attacking Melo in switches for profit.
Then stopped doing that in the 4Q when he had 4 fouls.
Odd.  HOU was shorthanded and Melo is a weak defender.
Also tangelo sat out the entire 4Q and the Nets offense stagnated badly the last 5 mins.  Not sure if there was a reason for that, but they could have used a creator and just a different combination of players out there.

CP3 got into his ultra-competitive mode and made plays good and bad.
Enough good to W it up.

Good for the kid.

Liz Warren Has a Plan for That

How an Outrageous NBA Transaction Supports Elizabeth Warren’s Case to Be President

“the public sector socializes risks, while rewards are privatized”

Warren's concern is that the US or state and local Gov'ts spend a lot of money luring a sports team, building a stadium, investing in R&D for drugs or whatever -- and then hand its investment off to the private sector.

In the Nets case, if the State of NY got back say a 30% investment in the Nets for all of its eminent domaining, infrastructure work, and huge tax breaks, that would be worth $800M now.  About what was spent.  In 2009 the Nets were bought for $900M, so giving up a 30% stake to get to Brooklyn and get $800M worth of assistance  would be quite reasonable.

What could also be done is the gov't could monetize its minority ownership by selling its stake to fans.  Who would probably pay a premium to own shares in their favorite team.  (the gov't could also sell its minority stake to a rich investor group).  it'd probably be wise to have the gov't hold its stake for a 10 year period before selling.

Never understood why teams were owned by ultra-rich men, and not publicly trade companies where fans could own part of the team.  I think Green Bay Packers are the only American sports team operating on such a model.
