The school principal ended our last conversation this week with words that are haunting, and that deeply reflect the depth of the crisis in a county coming undone:  "You know us. You know us for a very long time. Please do not leave us alone here."

I'm impressed you're following a Boston Globe reporter.

Every POTUS dropped a ball.   Biden had three extra months to do a proper airlift and he let his administration drag its feet and botched it.   Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires...and presidencies.   The people back in 2001 who thought a US occupation could do any good,  either for antiterrorism or for womens rights,  were fools.   Ideology makes people blind and deaf.

I would say that the women who benefited from much of those 20 years would disagree with you, even if the state has reverted.

I would also suggest to you that things are not all back to where they were before, even if they are more so than I would ever have wished for the people.

Taliban + surge gives results from July, August, September 2021 - nothing really from 2020.

You should learn how to use Google.

Were not nazis and these are a violent primitive bunch. They will be groveling for financial aid in 6 mos. Political asylum should be granted. An invasion was required after 9-11 but we should have left after the capture and execution of OBL.

Widely in both time and sources.

Not that you give a damn.

You obviously just read headlines

Shame on you.

The United States on Thursday blamed an Afghan affiliate of the Islamic State here militant group - not the Taliban - for the gruesome hospital attack in Kabul and it renewed calls for Afghans to embrace a troubled peace push with the Taliban.

The US repeatedly blamed ISIS.

The folks who lived there disagreed.

More than 130 federal judges have violated U.S. law and judicial ethics by overseeing court cases involving companies in which they or their family owned stock.

A Wall Street Journal investigation found that judges have improperly failed to disqualify themselves from 685 court cases around the nation since 2010. The jurists were appointed by nearly every president from Lyndon Johnson to Donald Trump.

About two-thirds of federal district judges disclosed holdings of individual stocks, and nearly one of every five who did heard at least one case involving those stocks.

Alerted to the violations by the Journal, 56 of the judges have directed court clerks to notify parties in 329 lawsuits that they should have recused themselves. That means new judges might be assigned, potentially upending rulings.

When judges participated in such cases, about two-thirds of their rulings on motions that were contested came down in favor of their or their family.

Testifying before the Senate Armed Services committee Tuesday, head of U.S. Central Command General Frank McKenzie confirmed that he initially recommended President Biden maintain 2,500 troops in Afghanistan, contradicting the Biden claim that the military unanimously recommended total withdrawal.

McKenzie also warned that a full withdrawal would lead inexorably to the collapse of the Afghan forces and government.

Mark Milley testimony was the same
