It is up to us who live here to own California and to make it better. We need to know who our community leaders are, and we need to be able to send them a message whenever we want. My representative here in Anaheim is Councilman Dr Jose F. Moreno, and he attended Harvard. I can write to my Councilman whenever I want, and he listens.
And I was in Kiwanis, with a guy who was the Police Chief of Anaheim, John Welter, and with a lady who was Mayor Pro Tem of Anaheim on 9/11, Shirley McCracken, and we worked to help the children, and to send high school students to college, and to make Anaheim better. The Police Chief told us where the worst neighborhood in Anaheim was, and we went into the neighborhood and we went knocking on doors and we passed out the contact information for the owners of the apartment complexes in the area, and we got the community together to paint over the graffiti and clean up the neighborhood. It worked. We cleaned up the neighborhood and it stayed nice. That neighborhood is still nice. And no one paid us one penny, we did it on our own to improve our community.
It is up to the people who live here in California to take ownership and to clean it up, and to help the homeless, and to make things nice. We get what we settle for. We need to aim higher, and we need to clean things up.
And especially since we depend on things being nice for the tourists, we need to clean things up.
By the way, my favorite big city is Rome, Italy. Los Angeles needs to be more like Rome.
Salute,
Tony V.
