http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/feb/19/biden-can-repay-black-americans-through-canceling-our-student-debt

And with student debt cancelled sales to first-time home buyers should increase as younger folks will have better balance sheets.  Home values will go up and new homes will be built.  That helps those who've already paid off their student debt and many who are out of work.  Trickle up!

Biden administration admits first group of migrants forced to stay in Mexico under Trump-era policy

https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/19/politics/immigration-us-mexico-border/index.html

Here comes the anchor baby horde. Central Americans forced to live in Mexico, that's a huge upgrade? Nancee must be overcome with joy, cheap nannies, child labor, and cheap recreational drugs.

They’re all getting union jobs under the infrastructure & recovery plan, assuming we ultimately accept their applications, as is everyone else who wants one and is willing to put in the work to qualify.

It will help you like your country better. You will see.

After the 2 trillion dollar Covid package, which begins to address the short term needs of schools, there will come the infrastructure package. Progressives will ask for a ten trillion dollar package backed by a hefty wealth tax. Biden will shepherd a more modest package through north of five trillion backed by a more modest wealth tax. It will cut carbon burning out of our energy sectors while distributing opportunities and compensation more equitably across the entire economy.

Republicans are too weak to fight it in what most charitably to them might still be a 54-46 country. The insurrection, plus the Texas debacle, plus the next big stupid republican fuck up will hamstring their ability to raise an effective stink.

Biden is going big. He heard the achtung and is paying attention. That’s why he has and is surrounding himself with people who won’t let him take his eye off the ball.

When the American people need help, it’s not the Democrats running away to Cancun.

Every little miscruz lets the Democrats safely go a little bolder.

Fac you'll probably be disappointed.

Joe will be going focused and the ball he's focused on is  '22.

Joe can count votes and has to worry about 50 if he gets too aggressive, never mind 60.

Joe will get his $1.9T package after that we'll see who he directs some pork and bennies to to get votes.

And Cancun Ted's sad south of the border act was probably of more value to Andrew Cuomo than it was to Biden.

The eyes of Texas are upon you...

A couple few EVs, Senators, a sizable congressional delegation, an influential state education board.

The GOP has much much bigger problems than the mild agenda of dear old Sleepy Joe.

And we don’t even have an AG yet...

Ted may still be better than Lindsey. They’re still each worth two Hawleys a piece.

State of the GOP.

https://www.ktvu.com/news/asian-and-black-communities-aim-to-work-together-after-high-profile-attacks

OAKLAND, Calif. - Some members of the Asian and Black communities are feeling under siege after a series of high-profile robberies and assaults in Oakland and other parts of the Bay Area, and they're trying to bridge the hurt and work together in the aftermath.

While some Asian Americans are feeling jeopardized by the brutal assaults and thefts, there are Black community members who feel like they’re being racially profiled in the hunt to capture those responsible.

Both communities have been victimized, said Oakland Councilmember Carroll Fife, who is Black and whose district includes downtown and West Oakland.

"And there's a whole bunch of trauma on both sides," she said. "Oakland is a tinderbox."

As tensions mount, several groups have decided to work together instead of falling into stereotypes and blame.

"The tension between the Asian and Black communities is building right now and we cannot repeat history," tweeted Michelle Kim of Oakland. "Asians - we can fight anti-Asian racism without being anti-Black or pro-police. Black folks - people condemn anti-Asian rhetoric within your own community and amplify our pain."

It doesn't help, Fife said, when some wealthy people have offered huge rewards for the arrests of certain suspects, because it ends up putting "bounties on Black men's heads" in the search for the assailants.

At the same time, some Asians feel not enough is being done to protect members of their own community. Some volunteers have started patrolling Chinatown streets themselves.

Actor Daniel Wu, star of the show "Into the Badlands," spoke Monday at a news conference, saying he was "appalled" at the crimes in Oakland's Chinatown. He and actor Daniel Dae Kim have offered a $25,000 reward to solve some of the crimes.

The attacks come at a time when there were already feelings of persecution in Asian neighborhoods. Wu said Asians have been unfairly blamed for the coronavirus, as former President Trump, using racially charged language, often referring to it as the "Chinese flu." Asians have been the target of slurs and "spat on," which Wu said he feels hasn't been reported on enough.

"Bounties on black men's heads"? What is that defense? Black privilege? You can't put a reward out for a criminal act that is verified on tape because the perpetrator is black?

Weak sauce.

Nothing so edifying as gripes from the losers who caused this mess.

We knew republicans had shit the bed, but did they have to go and add the bloody flux?

It is what it is, however long it takes to clean up, so long as we never let them hold the wheel again.

Nonsense.  Once the horses have gotten out the problem is much bigger than locking the damn gate.

The power is back on, but there's a shortage of fresh drinking water in Texas, reportedly.
Plenty of snow, can you drink snow?

Don’t eat the yellow snow.

I was thinking of people putting out containers on their driveways, porches, desks etc and catching snow before it hits the ground.

People are scooping snow up in pots, melting it and hopefully boiling it before use, and cursing their state government for allowing their infrastructure to fall into such a deplorable condition.
