When you teach people how to make honest money, then they no longer need to be a criminal in order to earn a living. I had a professor for a small business management consulting class and his charity work was to teach business to the poor black men in Compton, and he also had a program to take poor black youth from Compton to visit Africa, and he had the students earn the money themselves to travel.
Where I live, we get 500,000 tourists per week, we are the most visited tourist site in the world, and so it is easy to earn honest money once people teach you how. You do not need to sell illegal drugs and be a criminal here in Anaheim, you can sell stuff to the tourists, or better yet, you can hire young beautiful women to sell stuff to the tourists. You can sell sunglasses and flip flops and you can sell suntan lotion, etc, to the tourists. And people are opening neighborhood bodegas with stuff that they are getting from Smart and Final, and from Costco, etc. And McDonald's started with food from Smart and Final.
Once you learn how to make honest money, then you do not need to be a criminal nor do you need to sell drugs. That is what an education is all about. And if you can change how people think and feel then you can change how they behave.
You do not need to sell crack to make a living once people teach you how to make an honest living, and you can have respect.
