My Grandparents owned an auction in Bakersfield where they auctioned horses and cattle, etc, and Johnny Cash and Buck Owens and Roy Clark and other stars used to hang out at our family auction in Bakersfield. My family had to sell the auction and move to the desert because my Mother came down with Valley Fever and so they had to move to Lancaster for my Mother's health. But my family was successful in Bakersfield for a time.

Salute,

The far right congresscritters do not want a debate 9n how budgeting and spending is done. They want to use the current system to derail spending approved by legislation where they could not defeat the legislation itself. The last thing they want is a change in the system.

You seem pretty confused about how Congress works (in addition to you being just naive)
The   current system has not changed except the GOP has control of the House.
It cannot repeal anything without the Senate and The President agreeing  with them.( that pesky constitution!)
But it can propose new legislation on spending and tax cuts(for starters)
And that could force compromise with Biden if he pursues a second term.
See Bill Clinton.
Except that is precisely why most of them do not want to fix the broken system. They cannot obtain what they want through regular order, through the normal legislative process. They want McCarthy to pledge.to hold the entire full faith and credit of the country hostage even if a majority of their own caucus recognizes the dangerous idiocy of that move. The system you claim they want to fix is what allows them to hold the country s economy hostage. Ergo, they have no desire to fix it, which your original post, which you have removed from the chain because you are an intellectually dishonest PROVEN LIAR, claimed.

LOL

ROFL

Nobody is being held hostage.
The House is one third  of the Constitutional process to pass legislation.( assuming you have actually read the Constitution).
Anything it does can be voided or changed by the other branches.
Of course the problem for the democrats is the sorry mess they have created in the Biden Administration.
The GOP can change the focus in the next term and challenge Biden to compromise  if he wants to be re-elected.(the 51 dems in the senate will be under the same pressure)
Your insults underscore your ignorance.
As always.

It is good to have extreme voices, left and right, in Congress. It is even good to listen to them now and again. But you should never give them power over you. Especially since some of the far right view the Democrats as their opponents but the likes of McCarthy as their enemy.
Obviously the budget hardliners already have power over McCarthy.
Or he would be Speaker.
The overriding issue,though, is spending.
McCarthy is not trusted to hold the line on spending.
The way Congress works is to authorize spending, then appropriate money for those authorized expenditures, and then to authorize the Treasury Department to issue debt in order to pay for that appropriated money.
Raising the debt ceiling has been done 78 times in the last 60 years and it does not relate to which party is in power. Congress has always found a way to avoid a world financial crisis with band aids, etc., each time.

This faction , now that the GOP controls the House, wants to change business as usual, a debate the democrats avoided with its lockstep reaction to leadership orders.

It is most likely not going to be resolved until the stock market crashes and the kids in Congress have to grow up.

One day the continual borrowing of money to balance the budget is going to have to stop.
I tried that, continual borrowing of money to balance the household budget...it didn't work out well.
The credit cards maxed out.
Now, as happens when you do that, everything has gone wrong. Car has to be inspected, passed, and then registered with the DMV...but things need fixing.
Mrs bambu also needs fixing, operation soon.

Exactly the same thing with the nation, max out the credit card and with the economic climate the way it is in the world today...China rising and taking an ever-increasing share of the trade/ownership of the West pie, and the nation can be in serious trouble.

If the so-called "Taliban 20" Republicans are out to stop the (financial) rot...then that is good thing.
The US Debt Clock is a scary thing to watch.
Governments are not households moron.

It's the same principle.

BTW love the suggestion about the dog catching the car, Dems all voting for Donalds.
All the while calling him a prop.
The truth hurts you, doesn t it.
The dems are the ones hurting themselves.
The only place where Cori Bush pointing out that Repos are once again using a black person as a prop "hurts" her or Dems is in the far right bathtub you soak in.
Revealing and sad that you think a black demeaning a black is somehow a positive.
EspeciallyCori Bush who turned Defund The Police into a half million dollar slush fund to buy police to guard her, but no one else.
Pointing out a harsh truth is not demeaning a black but the people who use them. How has Donalds.support been holding up(
Nice change of the subject.
But here are the problems for the 21 Freedom Fighters
They have no traction on an alternative.
Why?
Under the proposed negotiated new rules package, committees are back in charge of legislation, with rules designed to ensure that bills address single subjects rather than catch all legislation.
It  gives members power to challenge amendments that are not related to the topic at hand. And it revives Calendar Wednesday whereby any committee chairman can bring a bill straight to the floor.
Proxy voting is history, as are virtual committee meetings. It requires a 72 hour rule to give members time to read legislation. It ends the dems wild experiment with staffer unionization, which threatened to tie the chamber up with crazy demands.

And it makes it much harder for the House to tax and spend by requiring any mandatory spending increases be offset with equal or greater mandatory spending cuts.
A three fifths supermajority vote will be required for tax increases.
It revives  allowing appropriations bills effectively to defund the salaries of specific executive branch officials or specific programs. It also requires each committee to submit an oversight plan that lays out what action it intends to take on unauthorized or duplicative programs.

In other words the GOP is open for debate in the House unlike the Pelosi call for the goose step response to HER decisions which got us what?

AGOP House.

Time for the Freedom Fighters to take the win.
No other republican shows any interest in supporting a speaker from their group.
I am glad that, in the midst of your ridiculous aggrandizement of a group of people whose stated goal is to drag a hard right party further to the hard right and prevent a post policy party with little interest in governing to abandon even that little.interest, positions that have literally nothing to do with any recognizable concept of freedom,.you take the time to recognize how effective a leader Pelosi was in keeping a broad and notoriously fractious party together and lead them into an effective bloc to enact real legislative ends.

Thoughts plus Prayers
From the Wall Street Journal.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June that a Bremerton, Wash., high school football coach was improperly fired for praying with his players after games. That was only the most recent of high court cases involving the question of when prayer on public grounds is and is not permissible. Americans, especially American liberals, have been obsessed with the question for more than 60 years.

The idea that prayer is improper at big-time sporting events was forgotten on Monday night. It happened nine minutes into the game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals. Bills safety Damar Hamlin, after a routine tackle, stood up and then collapsed. Minutes later, emergency medical staff delivered cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The game was suspended, and suddenly prayer was back on the list of things anybody could talk about or do on camera.

Paycor Stadium, where the Bengals play, is owned by Hamilton County and it is ipublic property. But no one, so far as I am aware, raised any objection to the midfield prayers offered up on Monday night. That is because the fall of Damar Hamlin demanded a religious response. The ominous way in which the lithe 24 year-old dropped to the turf not slumping down but falling backward visibly shocked nearby players and appalled viewers. It took very little time to realize that finishing the game was out of the question.
Football is entertainment, remarked the normally loquacious commentator Booger McFarland with sober concision.  I donot think anyone is concerned with entertainment tonight.

Any legal or cultural prohibitions attaching to sporting event prayers were, for the moment, rescinded. Players knelt, many plainly in prayer. Commentators, rightly sensing the need to go beyond conventional references to thoughts, spoke repeatedly of prayers.
A Bengals fan held up a hastily made placard bearing the words Pray for Buffalo number 3 Hamlin. Fans from both teams gathered outside the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, to which Mr. Hamlin had been taken, and collectively prayed for the young man.

Suddenly prayer the ancient activity of speaking to God in the belief that he can hear and respond was everywhere. Top level coaches and players, former and present, posted appeals to Pray for Damar. The NFL on Monday night issued a statement advising only that its  thoughts  were with Mr. Hamlin and his family. A day later the league changed its social media avatar, together with those of all 32 professional teams, to an image of Mr. Hamlin s  No. 3 Bills jersey bearing the words
Pray for Damar.

Former quarterback Dan Orlovsky, discussing the game with two panelists on ESPN, did the until now unthinkable: He bowed his head and actually prayed with two other commentators, reporter Laura Rutledge and former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears, bowing their heads in reverential accord. The prayer concluded, each said
Amen, and you felt they meant it.

Those of a, let us say, self-consciously enlightened disposition will quietly demur. They will consider the whole pray for Damar episode a mass expression of some irrational atavistic impulse. Fans of professional football, they will reason, are mostly petty bourgeois suburbanites whose minds and emotions are captive to the exploded religious dogmas they learned as children. Let the fans pray if that is what gives them comfort, but it changes nothing.

I do not subscribe to that manner of thinking, but as a hardened Protestant with well demarcated doctrinal commitments, I a not entirely comfortable with so many ecumenical pleas for the favor of an undefined deity. Are all these thousands of social media posters urging their followers to  PrayForDamar actually praying and, if they are, praying to the one true God? I am not sure.

But forget all that.

There is something natural and beautiful in the desire to entreat God to aid a gravely injured man, however that entreaty may be uttered.  Somehow I have always had an inner and unaccountable conviction that any religious expression of truth, however bizarre or uncouth, is more sufficing than any secular one, however elegant and intellectually brilliant, wrote the great British journalist Malcolm Muggeridge.
Animistic savages prostrating themselves before a painted stone have always seemed to me to be nearer the truth than any Einstein or Bertrand Russell.

News reports on Thursday indicate that Mr. Hamlin, against every expectation, is cognizant and able to communicate. Not everyone is surprised.

Fuck that guy. He is a creep, a crook and most likely a traitor.

Drag the insurrectionists who voted against valid electors in 2020 out, count the seatable congress people elect that remain and have the majority of that number elect a speaker so we can get to business. Replacement members will drift in over time according to the custom of their respective states and go through the process of being sworn in and seated.

Just what we need: a Speaker who committed blatant insurance fraud and then beat the rap by throwing his brother under the bus. And I cannot believe I beat out Yankguy1 in pointing this out.

But I repeat the obvious.
I will let others explain the difference between correlation and causation to you and just add that to the ever growing list of common concepts you have difficulty grasping. Instead I will note that keeping the caucus together to enact legislation consistent with the policy goals of the party is almost literally the key job of the Speaker. So, 9nce again, you are highlighting how effective a Speaker Pelosi was compared to the current shit show of a weak man desperately striving for high place for no reason other than to have the high place.

Well, and also that Pelosi did not impose the will of a liberal swamp but rather pursued policy goals broadly popular across the disparate ends of a party famous for being a circular firing squad. And far from being a failure, before the inevitable loss of seats by the presidential party in the midterms she had a record of remarkable successes, including an infrastructure bill, preserving marriage equity, covid relief, the first real gun safety bill in decades, the American Rescue Plan, the Inflation Reduction Act and more, and all with her holding a nearly intact caucus. Her last two years as Speaker presents a remarkable level of accomplishment in presenting a unified caucus working to make the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans better.
