Your response does a fine job of simultaneously trying to reduce the event's importance...
It's a competition, like a game between sports teams.
BUT...
it should be handled like English football, I agree. There should be emphasis put on the perpetrators. And clear sanctions.
I think staying in the competition - and bringing their case vs the bad actors - would have been wiser - and more sporting.
Reeks of bad loserism to quit after thinking you were not awarded proper points, the bad actions of opponents aside.
But I do credit the coach - for he had a a tough decision - and a clearly distraught team member.
