One of the most pernicious myths about police shootings is that officers shoot unarmed black men at an alarming rate, when in fact just 2% of the people who were killed by an officer were unarmed and black.  Since the beginning of 2015, law enforcement officers across the country have actually killed 33 more unarmed white people than unarmed black people.

While it is true that since whites comprise 76.3% of the US population and blacks comprise just 13%, black people are statistically more likely to be shot and killed by law enforcement officers; multiple scientific studies have proven that racial animus is not a factor in this disparity.

The most recent, which was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2019, found “no significant evidence of antiblack disparity in the likelihood of being fatally shot by police,” and instead determined that “race-specific county-level violent crime strongly predicts the race of the civilian shot.”

In other words, it is the violent crime rate of a given race—not race itself—that determines the likelihood a member of that race will be shot and killed by a law enforcement officer.

FACTS:

In the decade around Michael Sam entering the draft only two SEC DPOY fell past the 2nd round. Sam was drafted in the 7th round and was the 249 pick out of 256.

He was drafted to the hometown Rams (whose owner is a Mizzou grad) who had one of most dominant defenses in the league and were waist deep in talent at Sam’s position.

He balled out in pre-season with 11 tackles and three sacks. The argument was, “well that was against third stringers!” ignoring the FACT he was drafted 7th to last.

He was cut on the last day and then JERRY Jones signed him to the Cowboys practice squad but cut him in mid October. As a free agent he was eligible to be picked up by another team.

Sam never had an opportunity with another NFL franchise and in FACT was never offered a zero-risk, minimal obligation futures contract and he NEVER made a Short List.

What is the Short List?

”Each Tuesday, five to 10 players at a given position try out for scouts, coaches and either the general manager or a lieutenant. The free agents, often a year or two out of college, undergo physicals, interview with coaches and run drills.

The general manager asks the coaches who stood out. Those players go on a short list. The general manager keeps constant track of them, calling their agents and staying abreast of their health status and availability. In the event of injury, those short-list free agents get the call, sometimes minutes after a player clutches his knee on a Sunday afternoon.

Each team has two or three "short list" free agents per position on speed dial. There is much overlap among those lists (if you impress one coaching staff, you probably impress many), but multiply two free agents by 13 major position groups (specialists excluded) by 32 teams, and you get a group of over 800 "near-NFL players."

Multiply the five guys getting tryouts by 13 groups and 32 teams, and you get a pool of about 2,000 players, outside the 1,696 on 53-man rosters and 320 on practice squads, who are in semi-regular contact with NFL teams about potential employment opportunities.”

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2361762-this-article-will-keep-michael-sam-out-of-the-nfl

Michael Sam has not been in that 2,000-person pool since the Cowboys released him in October 2014.

FACT

As I have maintained since DAY ONE Michael Sam would NEVER take a regular season snap in the NFL.

He could have carried his cleats with his lunch bucket and put his head down (which he did) until the cows came home he was not going to get a fair shot in the NFL

Just going by the numbers one can extrapolate no franchise was gonna give him a fair shot.

THE NFL IS NOT A MERITOCRACY.

In the movie Bone Collector (Denzel)...a husband and wife who hailed a cab at the airport are trapped in the back seat with doors locked and the screen locked...driver taking them thru the city not to 5th Ave as directed.
Husband found murdered, wife kidnapped and being tortured.
Moral...always carry several guns if you live in America.
Can't carry guns on a plane?
Always fly in daylight when you can rent a car, or take the bus.

He performed poorly at the rookie combine. He was run ragged making media and commercial appearances in the months leading up to, and after, the 2014 NFL draft. At the NFL’s veteran combine, in March, Sam ran a 5.07 in the 40-yard dash, killing his short-term NFL chances. The team of advisors around him jumped at every contract placed in front of them, including appearing on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” which ended only one month before Sam signed with the Alouettes.

Playing the gay card. Gay LB who cares? Just too slow.

SEC Defensive Player of the Year

Kid PLAYED his position very well in pre season... 249th pick 11 tackles 3 sacks.

90% of players with those kind of numbers made it to a roster.

He wasn’t too slow.

He was gay.

How many out gay athletes in NFL?

Richie Incognito stayed in the league after bullying his team mate into retirement.

.Sam is gay.

A promise is a promise, so here is a nice tidbit for your continuing education

Most racially motivated police violence, violence against minorities however justified to put them and keep them down, does not involve shootings. Chokings, beatings, degradations public and private, all are far more common at the hands of police than shootings - especially fatal ones.

Shooting someone has the greatest chance of causing death out of the various forms of blue on Black or Brown violence. Cops also know that bullets are easily traced back to the very gun that fired them, while a bruise is just a bruise and invisible trauma is just a story that just contradicts the ones told by the cops on the scene.

The argument in the article is akin to saying Matt Gates has never been accused of raping actual infants therefore he must be a nice guy.

The argument you quoted is bad faith bullshit to defend bad actors and evil ends.

There.

I hope you were taking notes.
