Say what?

Biden wants 100 million COVID Vaccinations in his first 100 days.
The US is averaging 1 million shots a day.
Nothing like setting a low bar

They should put age limits on the office of president so crazy old men can stop making fools of themselves. Another four years of unbridled extremism looks like despite promises of down the middle moderation.

As opposed to Obama, Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, or Reagan?

Which of those was not an extremist in your oh-so-humble opinion?!
What kind of stupid question is that?

Clinton and Obama. Reagan, Bush younger and older destroyed the economy with trickle down. But it was not a grouchy old man killing the enemy type of thing. Is Justin Trudeau an idiot or environmental slouch?

“The focus of the new administration must be on restoring our economy to pre-COVID levels and ensuring Americans can put food on the table. Instead, President Biden has revoked the Keystone XL pipeline, a move that will drive up the price of gas at the pump, cost thousands of jobs, crush our energy industry and put our country back on a path to dependence on foreign oil,”  Senator Marshall said.

"In January 2021, Marshall joined a group of Republican senators, led by Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz in an unsuccessful effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
...
Marshall rejects the scientific consensus on climate change, saying "I'm not sure that there is even climate change."
...
Marshall opposes abortion, including in cases of rape and incest.
...
Marshall has promoted conspiracy theories which falsely suggested that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were inflating coronavirus death numbers.

You are the man claiming that Biden's an extremist, then you cite Sen. Marshall in your support for the pipeline!

Logic worthy of Ward and Kid, Luee.

And you do so while you have no answer to the huge Keystone leaks, which is pretty much the same as Keystone, to be fair to you.

Obama, of course, killed the pipeline in 2011. What makes Biden an extremist on this, but not Biden?!

Bill was in favor of the pipeline if they put it somewhere less likely to do damage to the environment.

But if you ask the Right Wing folks, they were both extremists.

Ben Fordham calls out Joe Biden’s ‘crazy’ order with ‘devastating’ consequences

President Biden has signed an executive order forcing federally-funded schools to accept transgender athletes in women’s sports.

Ben Fordham said, “it is a devastating development for women’s sport.”

“In years to come, the do-gooders behind this stuff will realise how crazy it is.

“Joe Biden has just built a new glass ceiling for women on his first day in the White House.”

The average of new daily cases has plummeted in the last 10 days, dropping about 20%, for no certain reason.

The average daily deaths had dropped sharply, though less than 10%. The last couple days have seen it go back up, about 2.5% from the low, but with the 2nd and 3rd highest single day total deaths of the pandemic.

If the drop in cases is real, we should see a commensurate drop in daily deaths in another week or two. But if we're seeing the drop because hospitals in hot spot states are overwhelmed, then if anything the deaths will climb as people with issues postpone getting tested.

According to Bloomberg:
Quote
Vaccinations in the U.S. began Dec. 14 with health-care workers, and so far 18.4 million shots have been given, according to a state-by-state tally by Bloomberg and data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the last week, an average of 939,973 doses per day were administered.

Overall, however, the rate has been just over half of that and we have not yet hit the number of vaccines that the Surgeon General under Trump had targeted for the end of December. If we hit the million/day that Biden conservatively committed to, we will still be 10,000,000 short of the end of January that had been the prior administration's goal.

Further, the 38 million additional vaccinations between now and March 1 that Biden's suggested would leave us at 56.4 million, total - a woeful 43+ million short of the December 2nd pronouncement from the Trump administration:
Quote
"Between mid-December, and the end of February, we will have potentially immunized 100 million people," Moncef Slauoi, scientific advisor to the government's Operation Warp Speed (OWS) program told reporters.

My hope is that Biden's team has given him better numbers if supplies keep up with demand, but he's given us a very conservative estimate compared to what he expects to happen. If we managed to stay only 76% behind where we were predicted to be by the end of January at the end of February, that would be amazing (and it would mean that we'd have come close to the predicted 50 million in February alone that Slauoi called for.

A million vaccinations per day is too slow. His team needs to figure out a better way to get it done (if they haven't already).

The leak can be fixed. Modern pipelines have been used for over a century.

---The latest data from 2014 gives a total of slightly less than 2,175,000 miles (3,500,000 km) of pipeline in 120 countries of the world.---
---Pipelines are one of the safest ways of transporting materials as compared to road or rail, and hence in war, pipelines are often the target of military attacks.---

President Biden has signed an executive order forcing federally-funded schools to accept transgender athletes in women’s sports.

You mean like what happened when transwomen flooded the girls' teams in sports after the same rule was put in place by Obama?! (Who you have already said was not extreme...)

Oh, wait. It never happened, did it?! No flood.

About 55% of high school students played sports according to a few sites. About 2% of high school students are estimated to be trans. There is no particular reason to expect a disproportionately high number of them to go into sports, so that would be roughly 1.1%. The F2M rate has equalized with the M2F rate in recent years. That would be 0.55% of high school students who are transwomen that would be going into sports.

We've had transwomen competing in professional sports since at least 1977. Dr. Richards would agree with you that the transwomen could have an advantage, but I doubt she would agree with you that there would be a flood of male athletes eager to go through the process.

The courts already ruled on this issue, long ago, Luee.

And now, the court of public opinion has ruled again: you're a bigot.

The leak can be fixed. Modern pipelines have been used for over a century.

The leak can be fixed AFTER HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF GALLONS have poured into our environment.

In the last decade, pipeline leaks we know about have spilled more than 2,000,000 gallons of oil into our ecosystem - rivers, lakes, aquifers, etc.

Nor have the clean up efforts been inspiring.

We (US and Canada) average more than one leak per day, though I grant many of them are a "mere" 5,000 gallons or so.

Your point that it is "one of the safest ways of transporting materials as compared to road or rail" is both true and asinine. Across land, it is one of THREE ways, the others being truck and rail - so, sure, it is "one of the safest," but that sure isn't saying much.

And your quote that "hence in war, pipelines are often the target of military attacks" is even more asinine than the first. They are targets not because of how safe they are (since clearly if bombing works, they are not that safe), but because they are a stationary target, Luee!

Really? War time target is a reason to support pipelines?!

The problem is not as simple as eliminating pipelines. Why? Because (as of 2018, according to Forbes):
Quote
In the U.S., 100% of our natural gas is shipped by pipeline. 70% of crude oil and petroleum products are shipped by pipeline. 23% of oil shipments are on tankers and barges over water. Trucking only accounts for 4% of shipments, and rail for a mere 3%. In Canada, it’s even more lopsided. Almost all (97%) of natural gas and petroleum products are transported by pipelines (Canadian Energy Pipeline Association).

The question of safety, though, depends on what you are measuring, again from Forbes in 2018:
Quote
So which mode is safer? For oil, the short answer is: truck worse than train worse than pipeline worse than boat (Oilprice.com). But that’s only for human death and property destruction. For the amount of oil spilled per billion-ton-miles, it’s truck worse than pipeline worse than rail worse than boat (Congressional Research Service). Even more different is for environmental impact (dominated by impact to aquatic habitat), where it’s boat worse than pipeline worse than truck worse than rail.

For the environment, only boats are worse than pipelines.

For the amount spilled, only trucks are worse than pipelines.

So, shut the fuck up about "one of the safest," would you please?!

Given how dominant the pipeline is, but how leaky and bad for the environment, we need to do a better job with them and we are just plain not managing it.

We need to maintain them better. We need to route them through less vulnerable places even if it costs more. We need to build them better. And we need to do a better job of cleaning them up.

Finally, companies like Keystone need to be removed from the pipeline business because they have demonstrated a callous disregard for human lives, environment, cleaning up their own messes, and finally the law.

What don't you understand?

Keystone XL should be stopped. Find a different company, a different path, and a better way to build pipelines, until we don't need them. (And include a plan for shutting down and cleaning up the pipelines when either oil runs out or the need for it is over. Don't wait until then for the removal to get figured out. Set aside money to pay for spills and for undoing the pipelines.)

Up to you folks, but it seems a waste of time, energy, intellect to continue to engage and debate Red on politics.  As always, you'll put in at least 5x as much time into posting as he does and mnay of your arguments will be met with Lol! or some other useless rejoinder.

My advice is give that pointless effort up, and the rest of us can discuss the Biden Admin.

As for recent chatter:

Pipelines always leak.  Always.  Transporting oil is an inherently sloppy and messy business.  Whether by ship, pipeline, rail, truck.  Shit goes wrong, oil and assorted petroleum products end up killing plants and animals and mucking up the environment.  but really you'd be surprised how often pipelines leak or fail and  flood nature with toxic goo.  And the amounts aren't small.
Maybe I'll look for a link to pipeline leaks.

I never understand why the Dems feel the need to deal with realtively minor controversial issues so immediately.  Is there an urgency to having transgender students be able to play sports?  Hell, a lot of college and high school sports aren't even occurring this year.  I always think these kinds of actions can be skipped through in a few months or after half a year, if they want to do them.  But why make it seem like an important priority?  And give you opponents ammunition.

I'm sure Biden Admin is undoing a zillion trump horrors and passing lots of laws/orders.  And the Right is just seizing on one.  But I'd be trying to make all the first week as positive and largely uncontroversial.

Otherwise, I'm waiting to see how/when the Biden Admin will counter the Gun Nuttery that has taken hold in much of the US.  Dangerous stuff.  And after the right wing insurrection, a good time to take the issue on.  SCOTUS has made this more difficult.

Maybe when women are put out of qualifying for state and national teams and the Olympic teams by trans athletes they might sit up and take notice then.
Anyway, women make up their own minds.
