This pipeline won near unanimous approval from every professional and scientific investigation, sometimes twice, yet only the politicians on the left say no, and only to satisfy some Quixotic war against fossil fuels by radicals.
That's a lie. It was scientists who pinpointed the problems with tar sands bitumen, which is the form of oil Keystone wants to sell. Scientists who found the way spills pose serious threat to the Ogallala aquifer the XL pipeline passes over. And opposition is hardly from "only...the left" when a group of conservative Red state ranchers and farmers led resistance in those states.
Nor did you answer most of the factual points regarding alternatives to oil, like the massive drop in lithium storage battery prices, the renewability of sources that don't pollute and spill toxins, the increasingly favorable economics of windfarms, the increase in telecommuting as a longterm option for many workers (reducing fuel needs) and so on. No one is saying there will suddenly be no fossil fuel use (an idiotic strawman argument), just that we no longer need the most desperate methods of its extraction, such as flattening boreal forests in Alberta to get tar sands. Oil is phasing out, and the time to create new energy jobs in alternative green generation is right now.
