If this was a court of law the defense team would be falling over themselves to get a plea deal.
It could have been a court of law, if the Dems were willing to wait until they had gathered all of the evidence linking Trump and his campaign to the Proud Boys and the other far right groups.
But...well, you know.
That take smells like R. Kelly's sheets.
I guess you might be the expert on such laundry, not me.
However, there is more than a whiff of truth in my take.
The feds are gathering more evidence each day. Patience would perhaps have allowed real criminal charges to be pressed against Trump, Giuliani, et alia. That would accomplish bringing about the end of Trump's political career. And, perhaps, that can still be made---but that will be much more seen as the Dem's version of Benghazi, if the Senate doesn't convict Trump.
Acting first to go after Trump only through a federal investigation would have compromised Biden's political career, and that is likely why Nancy chose to push for the impeachment trial.
Having the House do their thing accomplishes the political end of laying full blame of the treasonous acts of 1/6/21 on Trump, and only
possibly eliminates the career of Trump, legally.
Because of the impeachment, Biden is free to go after his own presidency without the Trump gum on the soles of his shoes. But when the impeachment fails to convict, that will lead to more political maneuvering by McConnell and company, and Schumer and friends.
Joe Biden will get to stay above the fray. As he should.
Run along and take a nap, now. That's a lot of thinking for you to comprehend.
