Cheap nannies and easy drug availability, the liberal elite dream? Not now please!

“The way we’re doing it right now is catastrophic and is a recipe for disaster in the middle of a pandemic,” said Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, one of the three Texas Democrats who represents part of the border most affected by spikes in migrant arrests and arrivals.

My state's power is 25% wind generated.   It didn't freeze up.   No blackouts.    Texas can do better,  if science and facts are leading,  rather than conservative propagandists.

Anything with a bigger budgetary impact than the anwar auction (at which Alaska bought its land back at a discount, raising the federal government $14.4 million with an M) can be passed through reconciliation.

Going Big and delivering on promises full bore is how this administration will be able to lock in and build on its 60% popularity.

Republicans screeching about process and innumerable hand wringers won’t change the math on that at all.

Fac,  your recent posts are more optimistic and less about Red having syphilis or bowel problems.   I appreciate the change in quality.

But I agree with Bankshot.   If he goes too big,  and shuts out Republican legislators,  there will be repercussions at the state and local level.   Politics is defined as "the art of the possible."

The propagandists come from the left hell bent on eliminating fossil fuel energy production. Coal and Gas plants had to replace the lost production from frozen wind turbines in Texas Monday.  The power grid in Texas, as do grids elsewhere, depend on a mix of energy generation and Texas found that out the hard way.
The bottom line, again,is the most dependable sources are coal and nuclear , with help from wind, natural gas, and solar.
Biden says he wants net zero by 2035 which is impossible without carbon capture and/or reliable storage batteries.  Also standing in his way are a million or so union members whose livelihoods depend on fossil fuels.

Take the political positions and wins when you can get them and that most people want and need.

support for the Biden's Relief Plan is around 65-69% and its bi-partisan

Rs and Ds are hurting and want and need help.

put the R-pols in the position of choosing between their idiotic orthodoxy & Trump and what their voters want and need.

the Repubs are in the process of comitting hari-kari

let them

Texas is literally turning blue because fucking moron Repubs wanted to save a nickel and dodge regulations

if Joe can get people healthy and back to work with healthcare insurance and kids back in school, you probably get voters who might listen more favorably to you for the next bigger proposal. And vote for you again!

or you could propose defund the police, medicare for all, kill the rich taxes, socialism for all, that can easily be weaponized by Repubs to recapture the indies and mods that Trump lost, and lose Congress in '22. But hey you get Machiavellian Mitch back at full-strength!

Nope. Coal and gas production also froze, and worse than the turbines. The problem is that unregulated utilities chase profits o er things like preparing for harsher possibilities. Texas this week is like Minnesota for five months. Minnesota does not have its grid crash.

For your stock portfolio maybe.  But they froze up too. If you do not prepare adequately for eventualities they eventually happen.

Is there a plan near you for de-icing the windmills?  How cold did it get?

For perspective.
How much snow  does it take to close the schools?

In most of Texas the range is ANY amount.( one inch in the Northwest corner)
In South Dakota it ranges from 6 inches  in the southeast to 24 inches in the north.

You overlook that the turbines were failing for a week before the critical dip in temperatures on Monday and Coal and Gas plants increased in production( Gas by 450%) though on Monday surging demand necessitated rolling blackouts.

Kramer said Monday’s chaotic day for the power sector emphasizes the need for a diversity of electricity sources that includes coal.

Gov. Doug Burgum hit a similar note in a statement he issued Monday.

“Consumers in the Southwest Power Pool’s regional grid operating area are being urged to reduce their consumption of electricity at both home and work as SPP and its member companies work to restore the grid to full capacity, and we thank North Dakotans for doing their part to conserve power,” he said. “This situation, brought about by extreme cold stretching south all the way to Texas, underscores the need for an all-of-the-above energy approach with reliable coal power as a critical piece of the baseload mix.”

What about a "privilege walk" for all White House staff?
Could be arriving soon.

Daily Telegraph editorial: Governor-General’s ‘privilege walk’ is woke madness

Woke madness has now reached one of the highest offices in Australia.

As The Daily Telegraph reports, the Governor-General’s staff will soon embark on what is known as a “privilege walk”.

If you have never heard of such a thing, consider yourself fortunate. During your average privilege walk, participants go through various exercises to identify their levels of privilege and entitlement.

For example, they may be asked to take a step forward if they are right-handed, if English is their first language or if they can easily buy bandages that match their skin tone.

But they must take a step back if they have ever had to primarily rely on public transport.

In the case of staff working for the Governor-General, they should be able to complete the privilege walk in record time.

That is because they very much are privileged, straight off the bat. They are privileged to work in that office. They are profoundly privileged to represent the Australian people.
And they should be extremely proud of doing so.

Instead, however, they will endure a form of ritual shaming.

You should do the exercise. I have. It is a great way of helping you recognize how advantages in life put you ahead of the race from the outset. There is no shame or shaming involved, but recognition. It helps to understand the equity needs of marginalized communities. A worthy exercise for your public servants.

Of course, in your case, it would involve you looking backwards and.asking yourself, "If I started so far ahead why am I so far behind?" And then you would crawl back into your mother's basement, turn on your number 2 of a No. 1 radio host and console yourself with the thought that it is someone else's fault.

When I left high school...'everyone' in the country was white. ("The White Australia policy"). Aboriginal people mostly lived outside of cities and towns (the law).
No African gangs.
No Middle Eastern organised crime gangs.
No Asian triad organised crime gangs.

Plenty of White bullies and harassers in workplaces though.
Being a nice, polite, well-mannered, skinny, naive, White, not martial arts trained Christian boy...I started well behind, a sitting duck.
Used, abused, bullied, harassed, mocked by White males and later White women in the workplace, I feel I well and truly earned whatever I have today.
No "privilege walk" for me.

The sun beams down onto the earth 630 million joules of energy every HOUR.   That's 2000 Hiroshimas per second.   We captured 610 million joules of that energy PER YEAR.   Surely the bottom line is the future of civilization depends on harnessing the most efficient self-sustaining power source in the entire solar system.   If we want it we can do it.   You don't want to because it doesn't help your own bottom line.  You're anti-progress.
