My state's power is 25% wind generated.   It didn't freeze up.   No blackouts.    Texas can do better,  if science and facts are leading,  rather than conservative propagandists.
The bottom line, again,is the most dependable sources are coal and nuclear , with help from wind, natural gas, and solar.

The sun beams down onto the earth 630 million joules of energy every HOUR.   That's 2000 Hiroshimas per second.   We captured 610 million joules of that energy PER YEAR.   Surely the bottom line is the future of civilization depends on harnessing the most efficient self-sustaining power source in the entire solar system.   If we want it we can do it.   You don't want to because it doesn't help your own bottom line.  You're anti-progress.

Most people are only a few pay packets away from the street.
People now employed in oil, coal, nuclear, wood-fired home heating industries etc simply cannot afford to lose those jobs without other jobs at the same salary being found for them to switch to.

Why can't these billion dollar energy companies A) pay their employees better wages and B) switch to a new source of energy and train their employees in that new technology?

Actually they are.  But there are severe drawbacks that have to be overcome.

Stop being apologists and unpaid speakers for billionaire energy companies.  You know they pay the politicians and radio personalities you listen to don't you?

I know that workers need a regular pay packet.

Ignoring what I posted.  The employees would receive training and still be paid.

Face-sook: Facebook ban an ‘act of war’

A former Facebook CEO has urged Australians to delete the social networking site in response to Mark Zuckerberg’s “sad” decision to block news on the platform.
The former chief executive of Facebook Australia has urged users to delete the social network’s app in response to Mark Zuckerberg’s “sad” decision to block news from the platform in the country, calling it an “act of war”.

Stephen Scheeler, the former CEO of Facebook Australia and New Zealand, said in an interview that Facebook’s controversial move “looks and feels ugly” and blasted Mr Zuckerberg’s motivations.
The warning comes after the multibillion-dollar tech giant blindsided the Federal Government, holding talks with Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, while at the same time stripping access to news and other vital information from its 17 million Australian users today.

Charities and support services including Save the Children Australia, Bowel Cancer Australia, RACQ LifeFlight, and the Domestic Violence Prevention Centre remained unavailable throughout the day after Facebook began removing “a broad definition” of news content to protest laws that would force it to pay for the news it uses.

Media experts have blasted Facebook’s move as “reckless,” “dangerous” and an “epic dummy spit,” and say the multibillion-dollar tech firm has unwittingly provided “the strongest argument we’ve ever had for regulation”.
But the company appeared to remove much more than four per cent of its Australian content, not only stripping all posts from media outlets including News.com.au, Nine, Seven, The Guardian and the ABC, but also removing pages set up by state health departments, utility companies, charities, and support agencies for domestic violence and mental health.

There'll be someone else.
Facebook also removed the tribute page in memory of the young mom and her children doused in petrol and set alight by her husband and their father last year.
There's total outrage about that.

There's Instagram...the war might see people flock to it.

Look at all these wars...the Facebook war, the China war, the Covid war, etc.

Imagine the outcry, Mr Ellison

The New York Times, citing three unnamed law enforcement officials, reported for the first time last week that a plea deal was in the works for Chauvin just days after Floyd’s death when violent demonstrations gripped the nation. Under the plea agreement, Chauvin would plead guilty to third-degree murder and face up to 10 years in federal prison, but would avoid federal civil rights charges.

What, a 50 yr old coal miner would be retrained as a solar space station computer programmer?
More likely the coal miner would be made redundant [very popular these days], receive a redundancy package, and be waved goodbye. A suitable young computer programmer hired from university.

It’s Hard To Negotiate With A Monopolist’: Microsoft Wants Australian News Code In The US

Microsoft today called on the Biden administration to “copy” Australia’s proposal for forcing Google and Facebook to pay news publishers for content that appears on their platforms, describing the approach as one “cure” to funding journalism and protecting democracy.

The tech giant last week waded into the local debate by endorsing the code in Australia and offering to comply with it in the absence of search market leader Google.

Australia’s News Media Bargaining Code is currently being considered by parliament but has principle support of the government and opposition. The proposed media laws would allow news publishers to negotiate payment from Google and Facebook for when news content appears on the platforms.

The tobacco lobby hasn’t really changed up its game plan since it took up working for the coal companies.
