A fateful series of decisions were made in the late-’90s, when the now-defunct, scandal-plagued energy company Enron led a successful push to radically deregulate Texas’s electricity sector. As a result, decisions about the generation and distribution of power were stripped from regulators and, in effect, handed over to private energy companies. Unsurprisingly, these companies prioritized short-term profit over costly investments to maintain the grid and build in redundancies for extreme weather.

Today, Texans are at the mercy of regulation-allergic politicians who failed to require that energy companies plan for shocks or weatherize their infrastructure (renewables and fossil fuel alike). In a recent appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, Austin’s mayor, Steve Adler, summed it up: “We have a deregulated power system in the state and it does not work, because it does not build in the incentives in order to protect people.”

Exactly why govts should own all critical things like power systems, and not be able to privatise them.
And why the federal govt should always be in control of things like power systems.
Deregulation is a flawed concept/policy...in the eyes of many people.
They believe strict regulation and very strict inspection and enforcement of the strict regulations is the only way to go.
They believe that anything else is asking for trouble.

Is she qualified for SCOTUS?

Perhaps it is too soon to say for most of us, however, some are ready to say that she is:

https://news.yahoo.com/democrats-start-lobbying-first-black-171216926.html

More qualified than justices Beer, Barbie, or Pubic Coke. She’s more qualified than those three at the very least. Alito, Gorsich, and Roberts are psycho extremists, but as such are squarely within the American judicial tradition. The first three are in addition to being terrible human beings like demonstrating that they aren’t very bright or read up on the law.

Brilliant analysis. Perhaps you could explain how you made your assessment, other than through a blatantly partisan lens.

Here is my student film from USC (After training at the AADA/West). I made it with a film student from Turkey, Bekir Serdar Cakir (Elia Kazan was born in Istanbul). I thought that I was working for free, but he sent me a check with my copy of our film. So, this was my first paid acting job. They say that you are not really an actor until you are paid to act, and this was the first time that I was paid to act. We had a lot of fun. He entered our film in a contest, and the winner got to be an assistant for Spielberg, but our film did not win the contest.

Except that
Texas’s independence from Federal oversight has not hindered it from rivaling Saudi Arabia in oil production and made it the sixth largest provider of wind produced energy in the world.

And it is connected to its neighbors(and federally regulated)  who could not be of much help since they were fighting similar problems and had little excess energy to spare.

The critical point of this week is to realize that the integration of power grids relies on all sources of energy and ridding ourselves completely of Fossil Fuels is a fool’s errand.

Barbie = no relevant experience, consistent public misreading of the constitution and the law

So...you got allegations and an opinion on what is relevant experience.

Okay.

Don't complain about others bringing nothing to the table, then, if this is how you answer a serious question.

The energy sector, like many of the systems in Texas has been set up to screw Texans.

You are still missing the forest smacking your head into trees.

You're as bad as Red. Either back your assertions with something, or don't. But don't attack anyone for pointing out that this is what you're doing.

You were asked about the qualifications of a potential candidate for SCOTUS, but you've provided nothing but partisan drivel about those already on the court.

If you can't do so, then it's better to not offer empty-headed nonsense and just keep quiet. But if you have something substantive and noteworthy put it up.

Otherwise, you look exactly like what you say you oppose.

Brett is wrong about the weight of the government’s interest in protecting fetal life relative to other factors such as the autonomy of a pregnant woman. Brett is wrong about the definition and application of the term religious liberty. Brett favors the power of the executive in ways that crack and warp our constitutional system. He undermines the interplay of courts and legislatures in their vital role in protecting the health, rights, and property of citizens.

All the same criticism applies to Amy, who sucked in her minuscule tenure as a lower court judge, in addition to which she advocates for tilting the scales wherever possible to allow corporations to throw their workers in to the maws of deadly machinery without consequence.

I’m not going to explain Clarence Thomas for you, as you have been living under the joy of his jurisprudence for as long as I have. Voting incorrectly in Bush v. Gore is just one of his many highlights.

Red just plays 3-card donnie to mislead distract and deny

From Enron to ERCOT Texas has skirted and avoided energy regulations for decades, generally to adverse results, but generally for corporate profits.

And the goal is to reduce our use of fossil fuel so that our grand-children and their grand-children can avoid the worst impact of global warming.

and yes I suspect in this transition some sacrifice mights be required or old habits dropped and behavior modified.

To argue false narratives, as Red does, first that "green" was the root of the Texas energy failure and and fuck-up (it wasn't), it was Texas decisions to avoid sensible precautions, and now that ridding ourselves completely of all fossil fuels is a fool's errands.
No one argued that.

Rather we should reduce the use of fossil fuels as soon as we can to slow the destruction of the planet.

It might need some regulations.

Yes, fine, all good, and thanks for a more serious discussion on the current SCOTUS, but you've still dodged the original question.

Putting aside previous appointees' qualifications, acumen, etc...

Do you think that District Court Judge J. Michelle Childs of South Carolina would be a qualified addition to the Court?

This can help you decide: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/JMichelleChilds-PublicQuestionnaire.pdf
