Random memory.

I’m watching this show on History where the black smith contestants make knives, swords and stuff and they’re doing a Hollywood slasher film theme.

The memory is back in the early 80s I was seeing about five movies per week mostly going to matinees and one morning at eh Sunrise Mall in Massapequa I saw this woman with four boys age range 12-4 going to see one of the Friday 13 th movies. Youngest kid had a hockey mask and aluminum foil sword.

Mom sees me staring and says, “He just loves Jason!”

I damn near passed out.

My Great Grandfather was the Chief of Police of Denver, Colorado, he was born in Littleton, Colorado, and his wife, my Great Grandmother, was born in La Junta, Colorado. When he died he was a bar tender here in Los Angeles, and my Great Grandmother had a cafe in San Bernardino. My Grandmother worked at the original McDonald's in San Bernardino. 

I wish the best for the people of Colorado, and it is a land where my ancestors lived.

I ran into  Glenn Loury at a book signing back in the mid 90s when he had gone from being conservative to moderate progressive. I asked him about his conversion, “Where you full of shit then, or are you full of shit now?”

Loury laughed and said “Fuck You!”  He was very funny and gracious but I see as he’s gotten older he’s discovered there’s more money for black intellectuals to tell white people what they want to hear.
