What people like Noam Chomsky or James Carville or Margaret Atwood or Martin Amis are talking about is a real problem in academia where free speech issues have been pretty real.   Agreeing that professors shouldn't be fired for conservative opinions isn't the same as saying it's cool to violate professional standards of conduct (like pushing your religion in a public school,  or making racist,  sexist,  transphobic personal attacks on students,  for example).  Chomsky and Carville are defenders of healthy intellectual life in all its stimulating clashes of ideas,  but they aren't suggesting it's a "cancel" to expect people at lecterns or pulpits to not abuse their privilege or code of ethics.

I heartily agree with Carville in his challenge to us to use clear direct English.   Advice both conservatives and liberals could take,  perhaps for somewhat different reasons.
I don’t think that was Carville’s point.
More than anything he is saying higher education has been hijacked by elitist educators( the pointy heads in the faculty lounge) who, in the simplest terms, confess to taking our money and doing with it what THEY want.

According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center college enrollment has fallen from 20.5 million students in 2011 to 18.2 million in the fall of  2019, even though the supply of 18-24 year olds has not changed.

More than anything this trending foreshadows not the cancelling of these  PC boobs  but their unemployment.

Do you know how many potential students are foregoing crushing debt?

If higher education has gotten too expensive,  that's not necessarily due to professors being greedy or straying from their professional mission to teach.   That's a complex issue which cannot be simplified as you've tried to.

And I have no clear idea what the thought is behind catchphrases like "elitist educator. "  Aren't highly educated experts in a field of knowledge,  erm,  by definition an elite?  If I'm paying good money for an education I would hope they are elite and the creme de la creme.   Being part of a highly respected elite doesn't de facto make you elitist.

Who would you want defending your home from an invading force?   An elite team of soldiers.

Who would you want removing a tricky tumor from your child's brain?

An elite team of neurosurgeons.

And they know they're an elite,  and proud of it.   We need smart people with unusual capabilities.

If some profs use their lecterns as bully pulpits, then fire them on the obvious and legitimate grounds of professional malfeasance.

Ward loves stats without context:
Quote
The biggest factor for the years of decline is the strong economy. The last time U.S. college enrollment went up was 2011, at the tail end of the recession. As the economy gets better, unemployment goes down — it's currently at 3.5 % — and more people leave college, or postpone it, and head to work.

When the recession hit a decade ago, the reverse happened: Many people, especially older adults, returned to college. That bump in college enrollment set records, and in some ways the current downturn is simply "colleges returning to more historic levels of enrollment," Shapiro says.

I never said higher education got too expensive. Read what I wrote.

Red has no future in a fact based world. His only hope is breaking any reasonable consensus to allow room for his idiocy to propagate when it would be better to let wither and die.

Amazing how the assholes who preached herd immunity last year are now 5he main reason we won’t reach herd immunity in 2021.

Snap polls after the speech showed that 85% of viewers approved of Biden's speech, out of a crowd that was only 54% Democratic.
The polls after all the votes were in (so to speak) gave Biden 53% approval.
For the record.

As for Tim Scott. He talked about Race where Biden tiptoed

But Scott began on School Choice, an issue that Covid has brought to the forefront with most public schools closed to in person learning thanks to unions.
We now know many parents of public school kids are opting for private, Catholic, and voucher schools and other variations.  DeSantis scored big in Florida on the issue.  The GOP, as a whole, took notice and will continue to do so.

Sure.

No reason to just change the source of school funding so it isn’t based on local property taxes.

If they went this way and also eliminated all tax exemptions for religious institutions and began the new law with a general audit of all such institutions, I might be more persuadable that it’s not the most terrible idea. Accreditation and advancement should be nationalized anyway and the best curriculum made free and widely distributed.

Ummm..."the best curriculum"?

We can't have people telling the truth and fucking up the officially acceptable view of the historically oppressed, can we?

Here is another example of idiocy in action, as future lawyers show that their views don't need to include following the Constitution:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/03/nyregion/Rutgers-law-school-n-word.html

Why the need to apologize for anything here?

Grow the fuck up.

"They didnt plan for the overflow of people coming in from the border"

No shit - since they were not allowing it

YOU allowed it - and all prior to making the proper adjustments, for a political win.

You can defend what you are doing now to make the mass influx more tenable - that's fine.  But why are you critiquing a past system that worked?

During the treasonous misadministration of the racist grifter and thief, people were coming in on $5 DIY ladders. They were hopping the multi-billion dollar failure-fence all the time. Neither you nor the cracker DHS of the trump years have any clue how many got in.

Nice try though, ugly cracker.

The continued use of racial slurs by this poster, who simultaneously claims to be anti-racist, goes unchecked by moderator here.

Not surprised.

But I'd like to hear why this is considered okay by you, josh.
